I was raised in a 1961 122 and learned to drive on a 1972 144. My first car was a 1957 444 that had been outfitted with a B-16 (B), four-speed gear box, but it still had the 6 - volt system in it. My 444 was better in the snow than the 1969 Land Rover (Series II) I had at that time. Of all those vehicles, I miss the 144 the most. Thank you for taking us on the tour. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The original engine of the maroon 444 is not B16 , its a B4B ! Actually it was a copy of the 1945 opel engines . B16 came in 1956 according to my uncle . He also told about the 58 steeringwheel that was put in those model was meant to be in the amazon ! They mached amazon hubcaps . When they noticed in the factory it was to late to switch back . That was the story my uncle told me anyway . He worked together with Assar Gabrielsson who was the CEO in 50-60 s .
I wish you have spent a bit more time with the 142E as I owned one in the mid 70's. For those that aren't familiar the 142E had what was called a rally dash with round instruments as opposed to the ribbon speedometer common on the 140 series cars. The engine was fuel injected and the transmission had overdrive on 2, 3 and 4th gear. My example had black leather interior. Very enjoyable except the tranny was difficult to shift out of 1st.
The owner of the Swedish import Duett 210 is a bit confused about his spec. B18A single Zenith 75bhp. If he has a 4.88 axle that isn't standard and is a rally ratio. Normally 4.56. Larger tyres not smaller to help cruising. Nice machine. The 445 has a B16B 85bhp. Lovely condition.
that pan whit the camera when the volvo 480 turbo came by :) ruclips.net/video/g1GQrZEzvv4/видео.html they got to be rare in the US right? since they were never sold new in the states
They are rare in the US. The story is that the guy who owns it had it shipped from Europe, I forget where, but I know he had problems with customs getting it shipped here. The interior and styling doesn't look like a traditional Volvo from the 80s, it is way different.
@@michaellogrande8609 thanks for the information and story ! i seen there is one for sale in south Carolina a 1995 Volvo 480 Turbo Celebration Phase II
