That gear design is basically the same thing as a motorcycle,,,, I remember seeing those dogs lug style gears and the transformation of my hoDhaka 100, they have use a motorcycle theory behind them the dog and lug kind of gears, vary interesting, and the motor cycle transmission make that clicking sounds too,, nice , thanks the car transmission gears are just made on a bigger package for the wait to racial of a car instead of a motorcycle,,, good 👍 thanks buddies thanks BigAl California

Great vid. Very informative. Never had a problem with my 160Mph 7000 Rpm 74 vette with a stone crusher but this is a whole nother level. Miss mav is going to have a ball with this transmission. I can't wait for some more content.

@@MissMidnightMaverick He uses the clutch too, I don't understand what you mean? You have to push the clutch down to adjust the fingers on a slipper even. It's not a clutch can or the like. I'm sure like everyone that it has a 2 step cut on the application of the clutch when changing gears but he stabs the clutch to shift as far as I know.
@@KimiWallrus he doesn’t use a clutch to shift. He has a strain gauge that cuts ignition to release pressure on the gears so he can shift it. His pressure plate applies more pressure with RPM, so he would have a pretty hard time trying to shift quickly when it’s applying around 9,000lbs of base pressure. At idle his clutch pedal feels like there’s nothing attached to it though - I know, I’ve pushed it myself.
I don't know if you have enough Maverick bodies to keep you in parts for a few years or not? Mr. Goodpliers just posted a video from a salvage yard in Texas and there were quite a few Maverick's lying around that looked pretty complete.

What Model Trans do you use? I have a Doug Nash 5 speed.. after years of hating how slow it shifts at higher RPM's is really Frustrating .. I learned why from a Video by a Trans Rebuilder in FL. Can't think of the name of his Business at the Moment, but I will post a link to his videos.. Even though FB likes to hide comments with links in them. Turns out they used light little brass Syncros in my Doug Nash from a Borg Warner T-10 and the Doug Nash, now Richmond Gear 5 speed has really big heavy gears like you need in a 1 ton truck.. I have no Overdrive and want to Upgrade to a Tremac 6 speed..
Way back in the day we didn't have such a Transmissions but the secrets to secret was to make a crash box and grind off every other gear on second third and fourth and then you didn't have to use a clutch you just shifted with all your might and if it didn't go into gear your transmission would explode crash boxes were popular back then the old man might remember but he still might be a little young I'm 69 I had a crash box and I was 16 Amanda that thing work great have a great day thanks for the inspiration car sounds good have a nice evening
John from Liberty goes over this in the video, and we show the actual gears of a faceplated trans and a proshifted (crash box) trans. Same concept, just a little less robust.
The same technology as a Hewland transaxle in a road race car. Been doing that since the 60's. All sports racers and formula cars use similar technology. Developed in England, used in applications from 50 hp to 1000+ hp.

It would be hard to money shift in this thing with how strong the springs are in the shifter. As soon as it comes out of second it’s forced in line with third.

Was this a stock TKX when it blew ?? I had mine rem polished and cryo treated and was told full throttle shifts at 8,500rpm wouldn’t be a problem. I believe it was also reassembled to 10% tighter specs.

Just installed a TKX behind a built flatty in a 49 Merc using the Speedway kit. Definitely a well worth it project. Incredible new way to drive and enjoy taildragging around.

I was against it because it was a hardcore Catholic school. Anyway Liberty Gears with Craig and the bunch were right there. I didn't think they would ever leave the location. Yet they did, and probably the best move they ever made!

Def gotta hook up that strain gauge if you want to shift faster!?? Cleetus did the same on Leroy.. soon as you put pressure on the shifter it knocks off the ignition I believe for a mili second to drop the torque strain outa the drivetrain so it will shift seamlessl👍👍👍

We use the clutch with every shift, so we wouldn’t be able to use the same setup he has.

That helical gear faceplate gear set is surprisingly quiet. I have straight cut dogbox. The gear while is so loud you cant hear the motor lmao
You will never go back to hydraulic clutch after you track that car. Practice kicking the clutch.
I’ve already raced this car with a cable. I have no choice in the maverick though, there’s no room for a clutch fork.

It was completely stock out of the box, it didn’t really blow, just sheared off the synchros in second gear.

It’s a rowdy motor with rubber motor mounts 🤷🏼♀️ if you check the latest video though, it has a motor plate and mid plate now, so no more shaking.
