THE ENGINE BUILDER IS TOP NOTCH! HE TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN & TEACH HIS THEORIES OF FAILURE, A GREAT MECHANIC!!!
Thanks for sharing Jason. Love when someone not only knows what's up but can explain clearly their line of thinking.
Dude has a wealth of knowledge, I'd like to just sit and talk with him for like a week. I feel I could learn alot..
I love it nothing better your father is a true gentleman
MISS MIDNIGHT MAVERICK, YOU ARE ONE SPECIAL LADY!!! You and your husband are a great couple 💗, you both uplift & support one another, VERY RARE NOWADAYS!!! You are my favorite female dragster in all of racing!!! I'm from the old days and you lady are so awesome for the racing community, way to go!!! Also, you make everything fun, especially when your with the SRC family. Way to go awesome lady!!!
With todays social media like y-tube its great when the engine builders get recognised and are personal with customers to the point its like family, realy good video and support the shops that work with you,to take the time and let you video and help break down your motor is awsume.
Absolutely, and after hours, too. Jason is the best.
It's great to see somebody use their eyes their head (experience) and their hands to diagnose a situation and not a computer.
Love it when Tess calls out the haters. Keep it up!
Wow I can really sit down with that machinists an talk with him all day on stuff like that great video can’t wait to see new combos come out 👍💪💪🔥🔥🏁🏁
I have to agree with you two after listening to him talk he knows what he's talking about, that engine is going to be a beast, thanks Tess and Tony for sharing your videos, best of luck and looking forward to seeing it making hits. God bless and as always be safe.
C do
@@jeffchase6673 C do what?
Omg .You two are my fav on RUclips to watch . Tony’s like a freaking racing encyclopedia, I have never seen y’all get stuck with not knowing what to do or what to fix.Absolutely love you guys and wish y’all would come down to NC and race at Galot,Piedmont,Stunnaville or the Rock to mention a few hot local spots …..like hold your own race ! Or get in touch with David Braxton 252 . Love you guys !
I love seeing this stuff just capturing the real deal how it’s built the decisions the planning and then you bring us along when you light it up thanks guys
I found my first "Hecho on Mexico" while I was in school in 2001. I drilled, reamed, and tapped the mains for ½" threads. With a little honing the main caps slid over the main studs tightly. This decreased the "cap walk" to ZERO! I believe that's why I was able to beat that engine, which was bored 0.100" over, at high rpm(7,600 to 8k) for 5 years and 80k miles. It was really hard to find, and it was a great daily driver!
Wow considering 60 is max on Mexican blocks
@@alltherpm did you read that spec some where?
@@alltherpm all "Mexican" blocks aren't the same. The casting numbers on mine actually didn't make sense. From what I could decipher at the time. It had different shaped "nipples" on the front and screw in freeze plugs. No way was it a Boss block.....
@@alltherpm according to the sonic tester used at the time, 0.150" may have been possible. I did build a second "Mexican" that resembled the Mexican blocks in the books more closely. Only went 0.060" in that one, but with same results. Casting numbers didn't make sense either, and it was a one piece rear main. Thicker main caps too.....never had a problem spinning them fast or making big power with them.
@@arturozarate1752 the blocks still thin were they Crack, just bigger main caps, front cap boss is paper thin
It's going to be a sweet engine when you get it built and good luck and be safe and God bless you guys
It will be badass when he gets it done.
I have heads that came off a stock block, crank rods with 18ish lbs of booster centrifugal supercharger. 800hp. Missed shift in the rpm and crank/ rod broke. Hand ported Wilbert Highports iron heads! Now on a little 347 b cam in my dads Maverick.
Getting inspired to put BBF 598 cubic inches together soon and get it in my 98 Mustang GT
You have a great Engine Block! Put Boss heads on that Engine & a track Boss intake 13.1 compression that would get you about 700hp NA
Good for you guys for keeping the Ford program going.
Didn’t know you guy’s went to Pettis for your engines I live right down the street. They are a great shop saving up to have them build my Ls2.
You definitely won't regret it! I've never had any problems with any motor he's built for us and they've all outperformed themselves.
Crazy, we have the same machine shop! They definitely do decent work...
Do a raffle with the heads and intake. Yall are awesome good luck setting the record.
Tess go for it..... Everyone go racing get some fun going
That Orta Put It Onduh Bumpuh! 😎
That dude knows his shit.
Need to upgrade to 1/2 inch head studs. They have stopped the head gasket issues I had with the 347 strikers I've built. Never had any issues after. I opted for re-ring and bearings every 50 1/4mile passes.
Thanks For Sharing
That dude was GREAT on camera!
He's used to the cameras because he was on Street Outlaws a lot with Giuseppe!
@@MissMidnightMaverick Welp, more of him if ya can. Plus, it's Grey Mare related, so Win-Win :)
Awesome video as usual. Jason is one smart engine builder no doubt about that.
As always great video
I learned more in 20+ minutes listening to him than I've learned in awhile.
Jason is one of the smartest people I know, I don’t know how he keeps so much information in his brain, but I’m glad we found him.
Well, hope your hand gets better Tess...as long as Jello is good.....its all good!!!!😮
More compression like 15 to 1 yeah that'd be cool that can get scary though thanks for the video have a great day🙃
Tess your a stunner❤
We Love & Miss those intros ! HELLO ! ! !
There's that HELLO I like!
Looking forward to it... peace
I know you two we’re looking for clutches that hold up well iv tried every brand and type made for mustangs and by far the best iv found is the dual friction centerforce clutch pressure plate and flywheel with aftermarket trans fork if available
Great video Tess , we need more content😉
Nice can't wait
Yeah see Tony she likes them nice and Long works every time
Bro what the fuck
Great video. Can’t wait for the next episode of those build. Keep it up. 🤘
Like your videos , stays on point
Thanks for sharing, really great info. Was that a "wedding crashers" reference?
It was 😂
What are the fittings in the valley?
Tony, I'm starting to understand why your getting gray. Keepin up w/ Tess is a full time job. lol
Definitely knows his shit that's for bloody sure
That SBF is gonna be wicked Tess and Tony Jason knows his shyt
Subcribe for being FORD POWER thanking. For content keep coming
Are y’all gonna be at at NPK events this year
I had that happen twice it was way back In the 80s both times I hit the rev limiter with nitrous scared the pistons I believe it was two pistons each time
Thats a sweet bottom end 😀
Tell Trick Flow Bill Hoskinsons sent you hehe, theyve been getting some good publicity with SRC lately, and great products.
SEND IT !
Ya going to be good
Great video
Love you using stock blocks. What brand main girdle does it have? Thank you
Nice
Drooling 🤤
What program is he using to find comp ?
With head CCs etc???
You guys should come to Ford Takeover this year. It’s June22-24. There’s a stickshift shootout on the 24 and a Dyno shootout on the 23 if I’m not mistaken. Jackson Tennessee. Test and tune all day the 24th too.
Edit* only requirement is it has to be Ford powered.
It would be nice and we are invited to run the stick class but not sure if we can make it
@@avboysgrandpahollywood I understand. This event is annual. So if not this year, maybe next.
Edit*
Theres also a big car show that runs along side the racetrack. Food and a bunch of vendors. Little something for everyone.
Edit**
If you’re already familiar with the event my apologies. 😁
Cardinal sin Tony the intake gasket i saw aluminum lips porting is a must a😢😊
Damn, she can come take a seat anytime
Is the bottom of the pistons walls beveled would be my question? Bevel the bottom of the piston's wall's may solve the issue. Small Bevel at the bottom of pistons walls will keep the rings from getting smashed. Still a possibility but piston will have a smoother travel.
Just wanted to know what Tony meant by might be hard to find a block like that. I built a 289 with a X marked 302 block and it turns 8500 with 1969 351w heads cut .050 and everything else stock 289 internals with no studs and stock rod bolts. 🤔
We're looking for a mexican 302 block. Rumor has it they can hold more power. This block is a Mexican 302, but it is already .040 0ver, so we need another one closer to stock bore size.
@@MissMidnightMaverick soo, what you're saying is you can really give it the beans.
@@markthegunplumber8376 exactly! Haha. All the boost and nitrous it’ll take 😂
@@MissMidnightMaverick Tell me how to distinctively tell if it's a Mexican block. The motor I have is built to a 289 but it originally was a 302. Give me a way to check mine 🤔
Curious what his grip is against Right Stuff sealant? Really smart dude🤘
Rev limiter, fuel build up on ignition cut at 9k rpm will cause a even the best parts to distort/break. I say enough fuel in the cylinder at ign cut then he lifted off throttle adding more fuel then when he went WOT border line hydro locked it enough to crack/break the skirt or distort the piston loosening skirt clearance causing slap.
I don't know how I missed your comment before, but that makes a lot of sense! We can't find any defect in the deck or the heads.
@@MissMidnightMaverick seen a lot of parts broken from beating the rev limiter, boosted SBF will usually spit the intake gasket before the head gasket causing coolant to be digested and a lot of folks will think head gasket too. I took my rev limiter to 12k rpm to avoid thing like this, now i wont be looking for what caused an issue because the problem will likely be laying on the ground😂
Yeah, when Tony runs it I don’t think he has the rev limiter set to 9k, but because our friend that was borrowing it can be a little more heavy footed he set it at 9k.
Sleeve it u will have stronv thick cylinder walls. Best way to go. Jmo
Bronze gear will eat the cam gear on street (miles driven) i had it done, must use steel
Just when I was gonna say watch them knuckles.. you go and hit em..
Smallblock fords love 13 / 1 compression if your n/a and burning klots 113 octane gasoline just be carful with timing don't ask how I know that mean lean go boom😮
I love my ford's
Q. - Tony , What clutch are you running in white fox ?
What was that first part in the girdle, the part that had allens, was that some kind of scraper/ windage deal? Who makes that, is it specific to ford?
Dss racing
One thing i dont like about MLS head gaskets, water seepage between the layers, that why boosted motors use a single layer gasket
We use copper for boosted motors.
@@MissMidnightMaverick I have had those MLS gaskets leak very little water between them on a na ls,
Just my 2 cents. If your looking for SBF Trickflow heads Call Ford strokers and talk to Nicole. Also if you run highport heads you will have issues with the rockers. You will need offset cups or the best which is crower. They are 2k. The stock center to center will work, but after a few runs they will push the bearing and bind. Jim and nicole are a wealth of knowledge and they buy more ford trickflow heads then Summit sell. Summit racing also owns trickflow. Fordstrokers are lower priced as well. By the way Billy has a maverick stored at his dads house. Is it yours? if not i would like to own it PM me
Trickflow is sponsoring the heads. I ran highports on my black car with no issues for 3 years. And yes the maverick is mine and will be going to SC soon.
@@MissMidnightMaverick What rocker may I ask. I had Crane golds and a stage two TFS cam. Glad to see TFS is sponsoring you. You going 225 or 240s.
@@brendavanorden9550 stage 5 cam, 240s, Comp Pro Magnum rockers, I had T&D on the black car.
👍👍
Are those afr 205s and how much are you going going to ask for them?
I would say there not renegades so no
Your skirt issue looks like the bore was a little out of round and the piston has been grabbing the cylinder wall. Most likely at the bottom of the bore. 😢
This motor probably has over 100 passes on it, it just started making noise after the last pass.
Why does everybody say you cant run high compression like 12:5:1 with alot of boost like yalls 20psi? Ive always heard 8:5:1 to 10:5:1 at most when running alot of boost. Does it really just depend on who tunes it?
Higher compression motors have a smaller tuning window, they’re definitely a lot harder to tune and have a higher chance of catastrophic failure especially with high boost pressures. The 363 I had in my black car was about 10.5:1 and I ran 40lbs of boost to it with an F1X-12, but it probably would have held more than that if I went to a 121. Class cars that are limited on blower or turbo size will run higher compression motors because they need to make up for the lack of boost, but their tune has to be on point.
@@MissMidnightMaverick I have a hard time trusting people with my car lmao. Idk if I'd be able to trust anybody around my area that much with that great of a risk an that small of a window for error. I'd definitely have to look at reviews on people that tune around here an go talk to them first.
Love ya hair
Why not an isky cam
Im thinking of buyn a Mexican block theres a Virgin block next 2 me 4 sale
wow. can you help me with my 1985 s10 blazer lol
You think TFS builds a better head than AFR or is it just bigger ports and all, more up to date?
I think the TFS Highports are the best out of the box conventional heads you can buy for a SBF.
@@MissMidnightMaverick You're not wrong, although I've REALLY been liking the 56cc chamber 205 11R heads...
@@MissMidnightMaverick When we were messing with the windsors back in early 90s at the shop I was at the AFR head came out in the windsor design and everyone was tossing their cleveland design heads
@Adrenacyde that’s what was on it before! But 14.7:1 is a little too crispy for a car we’re planning on using for Rocky Mountain Race Week 😬 and also we like to give it a little nitrous every once in awhile 😂
How much for the AFR heads?
Tony already promised them to someone 😕
@@MissMidnightMaverick Thanks anyways.... We need a new shirt with the insignia on front & either Maverick on the rear PLEASE
You've still got five more on the other ✋
