I don’t even play competitive smash; I just follow it. I like to learn a little about a character and hop right into casual games with friends. Nonetheless, I found this video useful. I have other passions I pursue-poetry, studying to become a teacher, acting-and I can assure you that I run into the same ruts described in your video. I might return to this guide from time to time to remind myself how to keep going and adapt to new circumstances. Obviously not everything you describe carries over, but the amount that does is surprising. Izaw, your passion for Smash Bros is very apparent to me, and I thank you for sharing that passion not just with your heart and hands, but with your mind. I can hear your revision process in the words you choose and the structure you employ. You aim not only to touch or even educate your audience but to wisen them. Choked during my first match of a tournament yesterday, wish I could have watched this! Once I got rid of nerves, the games got so much easier. Fantastic thoughts, will absolutely help going forward. Mindset is underrated.
I don’t usually comment on RUclips videos but I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate the effort you put in these tutorials. I watch your tutorials almost everyday to try to improve and they’ve helped me out so much. Keep it up man, and these tutorials are so good that I’m recommending them to my friends who don’t even play just to get them started!
Why did I almost cry to this, I’m just a noob who barely even plays this amazing game. I don’t know why, but this video reminds me of Wally’s Final Battle Theme Music In Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. That Theme Music represents this video perfectly: You must be confidant in your skills, passionate about what you love doing, and have faith that you beat the best, and of you lose that’s okay and you just have to keep working at it. I know that I may not want to be a pro, but this video makes me feel I damn well could be one if I worked at it. Thank you Mr. Izaw, your videos are just god like and I can’t wait for more! Keep up the excellent work!
I know you probably won't see this comment, but I really appreciate your videos and I still want to pay my gratitude towards you Izaw. Today I lost confidence in my play and my reaction time and ability to think on my feet began deteriorate. I dropped out of Elite Smash and lost 700,000 GSP. I worked really hard to get in to Elite and spent countless hours studying your Link play among others. However, today when I saw this video I was absolutely inspired. I suddenly realised I need to feel confident. I always have enjoyed The Legend of Zelda games and decided to main Link several years ago in brawl. I thought link had no potential to do well. It was really only my brother and I playing for a long time. I could hardly handle loss after loss to him. I worked hard to be better than my brother, but to no avail. I believed Link was destined to be bad for ever after looking at every tier list up until the current one at the time. I never got a WII U when it came out so I sticked with Brawl not paying much attention to Smash 4. Eventually I heard about you from one of Introspective's videos. Both you and him made me realize that you can be good with any character. I respected Intro because he decided to main Charizard and despite his character's tier list placement he pulled through and although he isn't the best he is good at the game. However, while he gave me inspiration, it was you who showed me the art of Link and Smash in general. You showed me how to read my opponents. And most importantly, today you showed me how to believe in myself once again. I will never get too frustrated with the game again and instead take every match as a learning opportunity. Thank you Izaw for creating these videos and please continue help me improve both as a player and as a person. Thank you. Edit: Also I voted for you for Summit.
aPanzer64 Izaw as a Sensai: Ah, spoken like a master himself. I believe in you, Young Panzer. You and Link will form a bond so strong that it will be known that you worked hard to be where your at with your loved Main. Have faith young one.
@@davidtu3045 Same here, first time playing Smash. Started last week with Pikachu playing quickplay 1v1s and have stayed around 70,000 GSP, still losing about two thirds of the time but I am having a great time (slowly) improving. The biggest improvement factor is just building an awareness of what the other player is doing, and carefully timing my approaches, attacks, dodges, etc. so I catch them in a frame disadvantage. When I first started I didn't even realize how much I was just rushing in blindly with no sense of what the opponent was doing. All I could focus on was executing my own moves, but once I stopped focusing on technique during matches and started paying attention more to the opponent, I've been steadily improving.
"It's better to know how to learn than to know." That hit me so hard! This reminds me to have the mindset of playing the game, trying to learn to constantly adapt and improve instead of playing to simply win. I also loved the way you said: play to beat the best, not to be the best. I admit, I could use lots of advice from pros and veterans when I lose against them to learn why I lost the way I did and what i could do different next time. Thus I'm gonna do my best to try and play with keeping that mindset in mind.
I'm definitely not a pro in smash, but these are some very special words. It's not only for smash, but for everything in life. I enjoy learning and I've heard these words before, but sometimes, I need to remember that I enjoy learning, and that I enjoy smash. Thanks, Izaw, you're awesome.
This motivates me a lot.. My eyes are in tears.. Tanks for your words of motivation, master Izaw. I appreciate them. This year, in a matter of months, I'll compete in my first ultimate tournament. This video encouraged me to trust my instincts, and have faith. I appreciate the effort put in this video. It's very useful, and I'm sure it will help me in the future. Again, thanks Izaw!
This is one of the best videos I've seen on this platform. Not just the best smash video, one of the best VIDEOS. You are absolutely right about everything you've said. Thank you for making this video. I know that I can do even better than I am already. And I'm prepared to keep fighting to prove my skill.
The smash community deserves this. This video made me so happy. I love this game, and I love Izaw. Thank you for your guides, I’m sure they helped so many people. Im so excited the see where this game goes for the future!
Hats off to you Izaw. A well-presented, well-spoken video. I main Incineroar. He might not be the best character, but that doesn’t hide the fact that he has potential. Just like every other character. I don’t think you realise how many people you’ve made happy. :) Keep going.
This is why your my fav smash content creator. Love for the game and easily the best at simplifying the details to succeed. Tech or mentally. Great work. Keep it up.
This helped me out a lot. I mastered the first 3 videos of art of smash ultimate. My school has a super smash club and we had a tournament. I came 3rd because I was nervous and was second guessing my character. This made me notice my faults. Thank you soo much
Beautiful. It’s not only for a game that you say it, it’s for other passion that people can have. I hope that I can stop be afraid to go to a tournament and just be calm and enjoy the game.
This is the best explanation of the competitive mentality I've ever heard! This video taught me a very important lesson about smash as well as life itself. You have my everlasting respect, Izaw!
This video kinda made me drop a few tears. From learning to climb a huge mountain in Smash 4, this video has brought me some great motivational boost, and even memmories. Thanks a lot for this, it‘s really rare when people take mentality into consideration. It‘s not just about being the best. Having fun, and being positive is just as important.
This video doesn’t even have to be about smash, this is straight up good life advice. I’ve felt this, I’m glad you put it into words and into a video. You’re easily the greatest contributor in the community
You really did go all out to make this. This is by far the best competitive guide for SSBU (but it’s also a life lesson) that I have seen, this will definitely help me with my mentality which I would say is crippling mentality. Thanks, Izaw.
This video is a great analogy for how similar fighting in general is to life itself. It truly embodies what many martial arts teach. The title of this series the art of smash is so appropriate. Thank you for making it. I just went on exchange to Taiwan and things have been getting really rough recently with my rotary club. I've been losing sight of my goals and myself, getting caught up in the pressures. It was amazing to see how much it affected my play. This video was really helpful so thank you.
god that stuff you said about having a character you play because you think you'll win vs having a character you play out of love hit me so hard i love greninja as a character so much but i find myself unable to do a majority of combos (or at the very least, i'm unable to think of them in a fight because of my bad habit of thinking i shouldn't bother with them because i can win without them) however, i feel like i consistently do amazing with roy, even in matchups that i assume would be bad for him (like zoners and such) i realize now just because i do better with roy (who i don't care about like at all because i don't care about fire emblem) doesn't mean i have to drop greninja i think i'm also kinda forcing myself to play greninja because a few of my friends get concerned when i play greninja because they think i'm godlike with him like that i have to keep up this image of being an amazing greninja player, especially since those are so rare in america although i guess you already answered that too, saying i shouldn't play characters to impress others god this video is just amazing
To be honest, this is not the next video in the series that i expected, but it's the one I needed. The concepts discussed absolutely apply to more areas of life outside of just Smash... Btw, I've been practicing all week with your previous training video for my first Smash Ultimate tournament I went to this past weekend! (i lost super hard, but damn if i didn't learn a bunch and meet cool people!) I loved the Sensory part at @6:07 because (SPOILER ALERT) it relates to a central theme of the novel "Ender's Game": To truly know your enemy is to love them.
I have never known how to practice and I also never knew how to mentally handle Smash. Your recent guides are a tremendous help. Thank you 🙏 I’m incorporating your videos into my routine now. I hope I can improve!
I cannot tell you how much I needed this, Ive been getting very frustrated with my inability to get the results Ive wanted to see consistently, I keep telling myself I suck and will never improve, it got to the pount where I was shouting at the top of my lungs complaining and how I wanted to quit. I had to give myself a pep talk in the mirror and felt so much better since, and this video said all that I needed to hear, Ill rrmember this video for all my career, thank you anf wish me luck.
The editing is also godlike! Seriously though, these are really great tips. I need to get better at the game before I get to this level, but the video is helpful for everyone.
I started playing Smash for the first time when Ultimate came out. Since then, I've been looking for videos in order to improve at the game and learn new things, but with these kind of videos, I've learned as many things about life and about myself as things about the game. It's awesome how the Smash community is so aware of the importance of mentality, which can be applied inside and outside the game. Thank you.
What’s GODLIKE is the advice in this video. This was absolutely beautifully scripted. Everything you said in this video is invaluable advice for how not just play godlike, but really just improve as a player and maybe even a person as a whole. I’d say what you say about your mindset when playing is the MOST important thing when playing ANY game competitively and trying to get good. The way how you explained the type of mindset to have and how to think about and approach challenging situations was perfectly written. I couldn’t have said it in any better way. I know you said in the begging of the video this is mainly for players who are already pros and doing well in tournaments, but actually I’d say this is invaluable advice for absolutely anyone who’s trying to improve their skill at Smash, or again any game. I play Smash competitively and this is a huge help. But I also play one other game competitively, and that would be Splatoon 2, and even if this is for Smash that mindset explanation/advice is very VERY helpful for even me playing Splatoon 2. And I consider myself a pro or close to one in that game. I’ve quite a few videos explaining how you should have a positive mindset, and they’ve all helped me have I’d say a much more positive mindset than most players. But non before have explained it as clear, straightforward, and as extremely detailed yet easy to understand as you have. This video is absolutely amazing, and EXTREMELY helpful. I must sincerely thank you for making this. This is the absolute top quality of guides for Smash. I haven’t seen any that compare. And I definitely voted for you to go to Summit. 1. Main reason is I’m also a Link main. But now another is because of how much of a content creation god you are.
I’m glad you came out with this video when you did. I’m going to a tournament this weekend but I always didn’t have the confidence to do well. Thank you for this video, really
Dude, this video should be on the first half of the series. Mindset is so important and what you say here needs to be heared sooner, not only for going to tournaments but for picking up a new character you want to main, everithing said is highly valuable. Loved it.
I cannot use enough words to place the correct amount of value you've added to my smash game man. Mentality has ALWAYS been my biggest struggle with compettivie sports / gaming has always been my greatest obstacle and this is probably the first non preachy that I feel really helped me take steps towards fixing that. This channel is amazing man and I really do wish you all the best moving forward. I hope you're already incredibly proud.
I'm not a pro Smash player by any means, but I feel like this is the kind of advice I truly need! To tell you the truth, I'm a tryhard who's been trying to get good at this game or any competitive game for that matter. So, I would practice my executions, tech, etc, and study the mechanics within the game, but I get frustrated at any bad situation so easily that I end up losing anyway. Anytime I lose, I feel like I'm not good enough, especially if I make dumb mistakes like SD-ing, wasting my double-jumps, getting punish throwing out unsafe moves, not reacting fast enough, etc. I've realized that I'm never gonna be as good as I want to be unless I find ways to improve my mentality, but I still haven't figured out where to start. Anyway, sorry about my wall of text of me ranting. Nobody likes things like that, but I wanted to get it out of my head. More importantly, thank you for making this vid! I'll have to remember the advice from this and any others I find from other people that are similar to this one! ^^
You've been a source of inspiration for me since I first started watching your videos. I don't play smash in tournaments, but you've proved to be useful many times now. It may be entartaient, it may be deep advice. It's always appreciated when it's done right.
A friend of mine told me to watch these videos months ago, because I was brand new to the competitive scene, and felt stuck trying to improve. I put them off for such a long time, because I wanted it to be /my/ thing. I wanted to be the one who figured out how to do the things through dedication and practice. But my mindset was terrible, and it's been holding me back. To begin, I want to say this video made me cry, which is an incredibly good thing, at 7:10. Out of these 6 things, I really only have passion. I worked "hard" through college (I did, but I struggled a lot with doing things on time, or just doing in general) until I graduated, and since, I have lost the other 5 to keep going, and passion doesn't get work done. This goes further than Smash, and while I am rambling, I appreciate you creating a space where I can talk. I've known for a while now that I'm not in a good head space. My own personal treatment of myself is absolutely abusive and horrendous. SmashU was something I put all my love into, but when I wasn't immediately a prodigy at it, I panicked. I still get angry when I lose, tho I never get physically angry about it. But it would be much better for me to focus on how I went 2-2 in my most recent tournament, which is something I NEVER would've been able to do back in December/January. But I only focused on my losses. (Tho, honestly I was so incredibly happy with how I did!) I made an extensive list of notes from episodes 1-5, so I hope that I will continue to improve. But, to anyone reading this (and thank you, again, sorry for rambling) I am seeking therapy in July so that I can once again see life wonderfully instead of how I do now. And I hope that I can once again be a hardworking person who puts EVERYTHING into their self, instead of constantly invalidating my own happiness. Thank you for this video and this series. I cannot wait to grow and improve and hopefully one day find a happiness that transcends video games. ♥
This is exactly the video I needed right now. Have been not feeling myself the past couple days and just hearing everything you said just makes it a lot more reassuring. Thank you for putting the time into this. I really appreciate it.
I won’t lie. I haven’t played a lot of smash but I recently got into it, not for going into tournaments but to play with my friends and get better at it. I’ve been practicing everyday trying to just get better for the sake of getting better and these videos helped quite a lot. I’ve drastically got better in a short amount of time and I’d say these videos have helped.
Ness MotherBound Izaw as a wise old Sensei: No, thank you, Young Ness. It is an honor for my teachings to be an inspiration to you and many others, following my guidance in The Art of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. Now promise me, never stop trying and do the absolute best you can, understand?
Bro I legit swear to god started to cry. Thank you truly I now realize why I have good and bad days while playing smash and I have a passion burning inside of me now. Thank you😃
This was probably the most helpful video I have ever watched as it helped me get through my mental block when I play, now I’ve been able to win more in tourney
Whenever I feel like I am not playing good, I watch this video and somehow, in some way, I play completely different, and worked super hard in achieving my goal. Honestly, this is the best video that I've ever seen in talking about composure in competitive Smash. It's truly grateful I get to hear inspiring words as I look to improve in the future.
You got yourself a vote for Smash Summit, but this video will definitely help me as I love playing competitive Smash,I try to be confident and have a positive mindset,I rage sometimes but then I just take a breath calm down, and adapt to the best of my ability, nice video
This can help in not only smash but real life. This is beautiful. And not only what you say but the visuals and music in the background. This is the best smash Bros video I’ve seen.
I remember commenting on art of smash ultimate (the 4th one, forgot tittle) about how the mindset section was completely gone. I didn't know it'd get a full video of it's own, this is much better than what I expected. Thank you Izaw. Also, everything said in this video, I find it helpful for not only smash, but anything you want to improve at. For me it's drawing and creativity. It's time I turn my life around

Why did I almost cry to this, I’m just a noob who barely even plays this amazing game. I don’t know why, but this video reminds me of Wally’s Final Battle Theme Music In Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
Link is insane online
Izaw:This video will assume that you are a pro at this game.
Me:*at 2.2 million gsp. has never even been to a tournament*
*proceeds to watch video*
Try 77,000 GSP got the game last week haha
William Wesner your a smart guy looks like your improving fast
GSP is a decent yet bad measurement of skill tbh.
Josh Cuz
Iza w:This video will assume that you are a pro at this game.
Me:*at 1k gsp, wins local
The background of this video is epic! Keep it up.
Howd you do?
Great work. Keep it up.
He finally accepted that he is godlike in smash
I'm about to listen to this before every local.
Such a great video!
Izaw is such a great guy
Amazing video, applicable to things far beyond high level smash, great job
Wow... some of this is applicable to University and life in general. Great video.
This helped me out a lot. I mastered the first 3 videos of art of smash ultimate. My school has a super smash club and we had a tournament. I came 3rd because I was nervous and was second guessing my character. This made me notice my faults. Thank you soo much
But you got third that's awesome at least
Just got home from a bracket that went poor mentally and saw this video uploaded. Tips are great and motivating!
spoilers:
strip all game references from this video and it’s just straight up life truths
This video doesn’t even have to be about smash, this is straight up good life advice.
I’ve felt this, I’m glad you put it into words and into a video. You’re easily the greatest contributor in the community
Dang this was really motivating
I really feel like I could be the best
You don't need to feel you could be the best, you need to feel you should beat the best.
Holy shit this is powerful. Reaches far beyond smash. Amazing work!
This was exactly what I needed right now! Way to pull in clutch, Izaw!
You really did go all out to make this. This is by far the best competitive guide for SSBU (but it’s also a life lesson) that I have seen, this will definitely help me with my mentality which I would say is crippling mentality. Thanks, Izaw.
Art of Smash *ASCENDED*
This video is a great analogy for how similar fighting in general is to life itself. It truly embodies what many martial arts teach. The title of this series the art of smash is so appropriate. Thank you for making it.
I just went on exchange to Taiwan and things have been getting really rough recently with my rotary club. I've been losing sight of my goals and myself, getting caught up in the pressures. It was amazing to see how much it affected my play. This video was really helpful so thank you.
This was a great video. Mindset is just as important as skill. Thank you for these videos.
god that stuff you said about having a character you play because you think you'll win vs having a character you play out of love hit me so hard
i love greninja as a character so much but i find myself unable to do a majority of combos (or at the very least, i'm unable to think of them in a fight because of my bad habit of thinking i shouldn't bother with them because i can win without them)
however, i feel like i consistently do amazing with roy, even in matchups that i assume would be bad for him (like zoners and such)
i realize now just because i do better with roy (who i don't care about like at all because i don't care about fire emblem) doesn't mean i have to drop greninja
i think i'm also kinda forcing myself to play greninja because a few of my friends get concerned when i play greninja because they think i'm godlike with him
like that i have to keep up this image of being an amazing greninja player, especially since those are so rare in america
although i guess you already answered that too, saying i shouldn't play characters to impress others
god this video is just amazing
You got this!
Oh my god hey i’m subbed to you, what are the odds I stumble upon you here
Cvo777 You’re subbed to me? Or the other guy? Well hello either way!!!
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen
I actually almost cried. I really needed this.
Daigo's words got to me from so much watching SF.
Also
I... did anyone else felt like crying?
I’m glad you came out with this video when you did. I’m going to a tournament this weekend but I always didn’t have the confidence to do well. Thank you for this video, really
Final fantasy X music... I see you are a man of culture
Dude, this video should be on the first half of the series. Mindset is so important and what you say here needs to be heared sooner, not only for going to tournaments but for picking up a new character you want to main, everithing said is highly valuable. Loved it.
Those camera shots at the beginning fit so well with the music
I cannot use enough words to place the correct amount of value you've added to my smash game man. Mentality has ALWAYS been my biggest struggle with compettivie sports / gaming has always been my greatest obstacle and this is probably the first non preachy that I feel really helped me take steps towards fixing that. This channel is amazing man and I really do wish you all the best moving forward. I hope you're already incredibly proud.
GET THIS MAN INTO SUMMIT
fatality needs to watch this, almost sounds like its meant for him
You've been a source of inspiration for me since I first started watching your videos. I don't play smash in tournaments, but you've proved to be useful many times now. It may be entartaient, it may be deep advice. It's always appreciated when it's done right.
Created an account just to vote for you, thanks for the content.
This video is seriously amazing, the concepts discussed can be applied to anything you do in life.
thank you, for this
🙏
(Tho, honestly I was so incredibly happy with how I did!)
I made an extensive list of notes from episodes 1-5, so I hope that I will continue to improve.
Great video man, definitely gonna have to hit you up on a training sess in the future 👌
I have anxiety, and this videos touched so deep in me because, you is so right about pressure, and it’s not only in smash it’s in life
Smash is more than just a game. It's one big life lesson.
The music, cinematography, voiceover, and message all put together are making me tear up
This is exactly the video I needed right now. Have been not feeling myself the past couple days and just hearing everything you said just makes it a lot more reassuring. Thank you for putting the time into this. I really appreciate it.
Really liked the cinematics
I won’t lie. I haven’t played a lot of smash but I recently got into it, not for going into tournaments but to play with my friends and get better at it. I’ve been practicing everyday trying to just get better for the sake of getting better and these videos helped quite a lot. I’ve drastically got better in a short amount of time and I’d say these videos have helped.
Thanks you master, IzawSmash.

Thank you😃
Be confident on being different to make a difference... And be proud doing it.
-FuZ
This was probably the most helpful video I have ever watched as it helped me get through my mental block when I play, now I’ve been able to win more in tourney
Now I’m less trash
Yaas daddy Izaw back it again with those HQ guides. We be eating 👏🏻 them 👏🏻 up 👏🏻
Whenever I feel like I am not playing good, I watch this video and somehow, in some way, I play completely different, and worked super hard in achieving my goal. Honestly, this is the best video that I've ever seen in talking about composure in competitive Smash. It's truly grateful I get to hear inspiring words as I look to improve in the future.
i feel like im in therapy. Only downside is that 10 minutes was too short
I literally just have this on loop while I play. It keeps me focused
You got yourself a vote for Smash Summit, but this video will definitely help me as I love playing competitive Smash,I try to be confident and have a positive mindset,I rage sometimes but then I just take a breath calm down, and adapt to the best of my ability, nice video
This video should have the title/ motivational video
This can help in not only smash but real life. This is beautiful. And not only what you say but the visuals and music in the background. This is the best smash Bros video I’ve seen.
I watched this and let out a roaring battlecry before crying with newfound confidence. Thank you. This is incredible. I wish I could hug you.
