It's so humbling to see people take interest in Roddy's style and techniques (like Thomas Pridgen and Curt Bisquera). That's what drumming between friends is all about. Sharing ideas, admiring different walks of musical life. Also, the drums sound great!
I feel like Thomas is the drummer that I see struggle more than anyone. He constantly steps out of his comfort zone in drum "solos" and tries to play something new. He never stops pushing himself, not even in front of an audience. And if he messes up he doesn't back down onto something comfortable that he knows he can play. Once he's though up a new groove, he won't stop til he's got it down. Much respect.
Honestly, just watching Thomas Pridgen trying out metal and blast beats reminds me about what it means to be a real drummer. There are so many different genres and each person has their own style, so it's dumb to label a better or best drummer. A true musician doesn't compete with others to see who's better, he simply learns from wherever he can to complete his or her own style.
We like that you thought that this is one of the best videos you've ever seen! Thomas has those skills along with plenty of other skills. Thanks for watching!
@drdo1988 We are very happy to hear you enjoyed the video! Your welcome. Derek has been a great addition to our artist roster. We are very happy to have him.
Aw thanks! The Performance Series is more affordable then the Collector's Series but Collector's Series quality. This would be a great start to join the DW family.
@Drumzmer555 main difference is customization. Performance Series costs significantly less because we only offer it in certain sizes, shell construction (SSC), and finishes/hardware colors. Collector's Series is virtually limitless price-wise due to it's fully custom nature. As far as sound, they both use the same exact maple and have very similar sound. Performance is only offered in HVX shells while Collector's has many different SSC options that effect the fundamental pitch of the shell.
@SevernSickum I'm not sure how the price changes due to import tax and exchange rate, but a 5pc in the States is about $1800, a 7x8" add on $250 and a 14x16" $375. The toms do come with STM mounts or Legs (depending on the size), but it does not come with tom stands or a BDM (Bass Drum Mount). So you will need to buy a stand to mount your rack toms. The drums are meant to be sold as a complete kit, so the snare is packaged in with the toms (can't order without the snare). Thanks for your ?'s
@dacrazy07 big congrats on the new DW kit and welcome to the family! Indeed, these kits are in high demand. We are doing our best to crank them out while maintaining the highest quality standards. Keep in mind, they are still made by hand just like Collector's Series, although the limited finish and size options give us the opportunity to "stock up". However, the demand is so high, we are unable to keep a stock! The shop you bought them from should know better than anyone when to expect them
Yeah, one of the coolest videos. Drumming veterans having fun. Blast beats ain't that easy, obviously. Like how Derek shows Thomas and Curt his Hellish Blasts. And they appreciate it! Cool
@admiralkts Thanks for noticing! Yeah he has the 5.5x14 snare for the Performance Series in this video. Feel free to check out the details on the Performance Series at dwdrums(dot)com. Just click on the "drums" button in the left top corner and choose Performance Series on the pull down menu. Have good one!
@zepedrorock Sorry to hear that. Have your looked into the Performance Series yet? Same quality as the Collectors but cheaper prices. It's around $2000 for a kit in the US.
What a great video.. I met Derek once when the music store I work at hosted a couple of clinics for him. Really awesome guy, genuine and modest... Top notch dude...
@9cccaseycane Thanks for your interest in the Performance Series. This kit should be around $2000 from an authorized DW dealer. Go to dwdrums(dot)com and click on the Dealer Locator in the right hand top corner for the dealer closest to you. Gravity hits are always cool!
I sincerely hope young drummers see this video as an example of drummers from different genres and backgrounds simply having fun and not showing off in comparison to who can do what..Good job DW, at leaving that in the video footage for all to see..;)
@RutboyNiles we appreciate your opinion, but it is worth noting that our stock Coated/Clear heads are ambassador-weight single ply heads made by Remo USA, so there's really little to no difference except for the coated ring.
@TexasTeaDrums All of these share VERY similar wood. They are all Hard Rock North American Maple. Performance has a special HVX grain orientation. In 98, all shells were standard horizontal grain.
@illusionman21 It all depends on the sizes and finish you want on your Performance kit. We have a finish ply finish and a lacquer finish. We also have 2 different tom packs, 7 different add on toms and we sell snare individually. The best way to get pricing is to contact your local dealer. You can find contact info for your local dealer at dwdrums(dot)com and click on the Dealer Locator tab.
This kit in particular had a 16 inch floor tom but we do offer a 14" floor tom. You can actually get our tom pack 2 which includes the 9x12 and 14x16 and add a 8x10 separately. 14 inch toms and bigger come with legs standard. We do not have these sizes as rack toms.
@KDWorldBrickPix Unfortunately the Performance Series doesn't come with any clamps. You could always clamp your 2 rack toms with DWSM991's single tom clamps to your 2 cymbal stands though. ;)
Catch this Monster drummer in the flesh on his Derek Roddy Invasion tour going on NOW! Check here for dates and locations dwdrums(dot)com/roddyinvasion
@dsayone Congrats on your new kit! What color and sizes did you get? As far as the shell thicknesses, all of our maple plys are 1/36" of an inch. The 8" toms are 7-ply HVX maple, after the drum is lacquered it comes out to about 1/4 (.25) inch total. 10"-16" Toma and all Bass Drums are 8-ply, and about .285 inch (finished). Snares are 10-ply and about .3 inch (finished). If you are interested in the details of HVX Ply layups, check out the links on this page bit(dot)ly/dwperfshells
@TheMakyoura well, the cymbals are definitely not Tony's...especially if you mean Tony Royster. Those are Zidjians, and Tony Royster plays and endorses Sabian. They cymbals are DW's, and the whole kit was set up for various artists to play on. It's not their kit, it's DW's kit (cymbals and all). Just have to make that clear ;)
@SOGNAMETAL1984 No problem! Are they saying the Performance Series are an "entry" or "premium" type drum? Or were they talking about our new PDP Concept Series. Have you looked into the Concept Series yet?!? It is a brand new line for PDP with Maple or Borch shells and good selection of drum sizes and configurations. Feel free to check the link below for more info on the Concept Series. ://bit(dot)ly/GDkPJI
@numetalowns7 He can play all kinds of styles we are sure. We do not do any pricing direct from our factory here. Sorry about that. You can get pricing and ordering info from any of our authorized DW drums dealers. ://bit(dot)ly/wLjMkV
I love that some of the best drummers are struggling with Derek Roddy stuff. He's going so fast that it's hard to hear how technical it actually is. It's easier to hear when someone tries it for the first time. Derek, you're the man!
@17karankokar We do not do any pricing or direct sales from our factory here. Please contact your local authorized DW drums dealer. Sorry for any inconvenience. ://dwdr(dot)ms/v7qPFu
@GingerDrummerDude Did you mean tom clamps on the cymbal stands? Those are DWSM991's and be mounted to any cymbal stand to you height's delite. They are available from our on line store or from any of our authorized DW dealers. ://dwdr(dot)ms/x5j3Ni ://dwdr(dot)ms/v7qPFu
@anunstealthynacho Never any stupid questions!! A Finish Ply finish is a wrapped venneer around the shell. A Lacquer finish is painted directly on the shell of the drum.
@MrSkullman858 Those heads are our Remo Factory Coated Clear heads. They are a single ply with a sound enhancement ring. Check the link below for ordering them on line. ://dwdr(dot)ms/viiwQq
@007IrishLad that was good advice. If you have any trouble ordering the part, don't hesitate to contact our friendly and helpful Customer Service department at 1-800-45-DRUMS or email CustomerService@dwdrums.com
@yesalexyeah The same way all of our drums are tuned. Please check our John Good tuning video here ://dwdr(dot)ms/vi5eQ8 We hope this will help you with some tuning techniques. :)
@RutboyNiles good to know! Thanks for your feedback. Everyone has different tastes. Our's is most often the taste of John Good. It is fun and rewarding to try different head combos.
@KDWorldBrickPix We are still offering the Cherry Stain for add on drums. You might still be able to find a kit with the Cherry Stain finish in one of our dealers. ://bit(dot)ly/v7qPFu
He does endorse Meinl but these cymbals were set up on this kit before he played the kit. Check him out on his Collector's Series kit on the link below. youtube(dot)com/watch?v=eWsnTX9zkHI&feature=plcp
@crenshawjeffrey For the toms and bass drum batter we use Coated Clear DW Remo factory heads. Coated White Revers Dot for snare batter. Clear heads for resonant on toms and snare. A Gloss Black Performance Series logo head for the bass drum resonant. Have a great weekend!
@codyandcambria Pretty cool for sure. All these guys have their own strengths and their egos allow them to learn from each other. Thanks for liking the Performance Series!
It's so humbling to see people take interest in Roddy's style and techniques (like Thomas Pridgen and Curt Bisquera). That's what drumming between friends is all about. Sharing ideas, admiring different walks of musical life.
Also, the drums sound great!
Watch closely everyone. This is probably the first and last time you'll ever see Thomas Pridgen struggle to play something.
It's the first time I've ever thought he seemed a bit slow :)
First time seeing Elton John's drummer playing blast beats.
LOVE seeing Thomas struggle with something, he IS human.
+Devin Buchhorn I KNOW, HE IS SO ENTHUSIASTIC WHEN IT COMES TO DRUMMING
I feel like Thomas is the drummer that I see struggle more than anyone. He constantly steps out of his comfort zone in drum "solos" and tries to play something new. He never stops pushing himself, not even in front of an audience. And if he messes up he doesn't back down onto something comfortable that he knows he can play. Once he's though up a new groove, he won't stop til he's got it down. Much respect.
It turns into a video of Derek Roddy giving lessons lol that was awesome.
Thanks for watching! Well said! Derek is a top notch kind of guy.
We are very happy to hear that! We wish you many fun drumming times with your Performance kit. Enjoy!
Honestly, just watching Thomas Pridgen trying out metal and blast beats reminds me about what it means to be a real drummer. We are happy you were having a great time appreciate your kind words!
i like this video. just all of them having fun and trying things. its real.
We like that you thought that this is one of the best videos you've ever seen! Thomas has those skills along with plenty of other skills. Thanks for watching!
I don't know Derek or Thomas personally but from their videos I can tell that they are very down to earth and love sharing about drums. Super cool
Our pleasure!! We'll keep posting videos and we can't wait to make you a kit someday. :)
I feel bad for his left foot in this
it must feel so left out
@drdo1988 We are very happy to hear you enjoyed the video! Your welcome. Derek has been a great addition to our artist roster. We are very happy to have him.
@TheJamsh Glad you like it. We are lucky to have these guys.
Have you ever noticed how the best musicians are so humble and willing to admit their mistakes? Think about that for a minute.
Thanks! Great group of guys with Derek driving the Metal bus. :)
It is! Thanks for liking the Performance Series!
And someday we will be here for you! Thanks!
Well that is a lot! :) John is a great guy and enjoys all conversations about drums. Thanks so much for being a part of the DW family!
We do, too thanks! Drumming is a fun learning process and should be treated as that! Thanks again!
@ToweringFilth As long as it sounds great to you in the end. :) Thanks for watching!
Very well said! All these guys are so good at their individual styles and its cool to see them crossing over and having fun doing it.
@estebanskater123 Thanks for watching! Pretty cool watching all these guys doing blast beats. Happy holidays!
Really cool to see all these guys sharing the kit right? Shows the strengths in their individual styles and how they can learn from each other. :)
Sorry for the delay! The shallower the shell the more sustain. This would be the main difference between the 2!
@SevernSickum I'm not sure how the price changes due to import tax and exchange rate, but a 5pc in the States is about $1800, a 7x8" add on $250 and a 14x16" $375. It's so great that these awesome drummers have no problem showing everyone and each other that they find something hard to play.

Awesome! Thanks for choosing the 8x14 Performance series snare! The shell was made overseas but is assembled here in our factory in CA!
Our pleasure!

This is some of the best playing i've seen from Derek Roddy.
Totally! Shows his appreciating for drumming styles that are not necessarily his specific.
A extraordinary person and a phenomenal drummer!
i still cant believe how versatile that snare sounds..with dereks wicked blasts to just grooving with it.. really tight sounding snare
Pridgen's pitch control at 3:03 is flawless. Never fails to amaze me.
Very diligent requesting Danny. We like that!
