for those playing on normal rates: sometimes you'll find that the shadowmane will aggro on the trap randomly and will not de-aggro. you can fix this by netting it (you can it through the wall). i struggled a lot with taming my first shadowmane and it took 4 hours. don't let this happen to you.
P.S. I did this by suiciding on fjordur

thank you for speaking out about the other guides they were getting so repetitive. none of them work so i tried my own method with 4 dino gates but i got a 145 to 50 percent then messed up and it aggroed the gate. this method completely eliminates that problem. and u even credited nooblets when u could of just said nothing. ur a real one thanks man, liked the vid.

I was using dino gate trap (with gatedoors) but it had to be bigger than 4gate box, cause shadowmanes will clip out of those now

Yeah seriously.. I was taming a 130 or something yesterday and this guy ramdomly comes and reset it by accident. Took 3 hours or so to get to 90 percent...

Finally a very easy and helpful way to tame the shadowmane. I spend like 18 hours with the sneaking technique and only accomplished to tame a lvl 10 one. Thank you!

I tried the netgun and the Shadowmane somehow gets out of the trap everytime I use it so it is not a good idea

ok this is by far the best, awesome quality information right here. workd flawlessly on my first attempt. took me 5 fish on unoffi for max lvl
You can trap a fish by placing a wooden cage on top of the fish and then placing the basket next to them. You can also pick the cages back up after you got the fish. That's way easier in my opinion.

People tamed arthro and mantis also by crouching and using ghillie before putting it in a trap. Similar mechanic for shadowmane. Wonder why nooblets didn't think of that😂

*First off: pro tip, you can refresh fish basket spoil timer by putting it on your hotbar and submerging yourself in water. You're welcome.* Minor correction, the trap is 2 walls high, not 4.

Every single guide was the same dogshit method because most of them don't understand this game's mechanics and simply regurgitate each others' content whilst adding nothing new. These other guides are pratically outright lying to you, as they neglect to mention the most time wasting pitfalls and mistakes in the taming process and make it look easy. I wasted so much time following these guides. I'm here to save you from making the same mistake.
It's not my usual thing, but here it is.
Here's hands down the best Shadowmane taming method that exists right now: no bullshit, no godmode, no ghillie, no cactus broth, no net guns, no skiff and NO CROUCHING!
What do you do when the shadowmane wont sleep after second or third feed. Tried your trap with 3 and they never went back to sleep. i replaced all the walls but the aint aggro , just running around
@@hansmeier1200 Are you sure it's still the right time of day? If it's still the middle of the day, make sure theres no other shadowmane nearby.

Has anyone tested this for Xbox? Because I haven’t been able to do this either because the shadowmane won’t go to sleep or because it just stands there without attacking the walls
yup, same thing with other trap. exit render and wait a while. it will go to sleep sooner or later
I built my own trap a little differently a few days ago, I tried several different sizes and on this side I couldn't reach him whilst crouched through the walls. It seems to work better on PC.

Smart trap. If anyone doesn't have any access to Tek suit or has a mod that makes shadowmanes spawn on other map i recommend using a decent spino to lure it inside the trap since the spino can climb over the trap

Already tamed a bunch with my own method of trapping them, and can agree that the guides are pretty shit.
Gonna try this trap to see if it eliminates some of the problems I have with mine.
Let me know how it went. If you run into issues with not sleeping, make sure the Shadowmane is far from other Shadowmanes, it still follows the same rules as the other methods of taming. If one aggros, they all do, and it causes them all to glitch out making it practically untameable if another Shadowmane is nearby.

but build the box 2x2 x3 high.
and close off with ceilings for added safety.
dont leave render distance or the mane can glitch in the walls.
We leave render for good reason.

This is interesting as I have tried to use a much bigger trap for it to walk and sleep but it didn't fell asleep at all :/ I used the crouching/feeding method for 140 female and 150 male. 2 days I spent doing it and won't do it ever again! I'm breeding them cause I refuse to tame them with this broken system!
Sometimes they just walk around as if they are not aggro'd when they are. This tends to happen when another Shadowmane is nearby it bugs out the AI. Yeah they coded this pretty bad.

Not only can a tek skiff pick them up but if you get a quetzel they can also pick them up it's slow but it does the job. I think that's one of the reason there are so many on the map. So u can take them anyone u want it's just slow lol but if u do make a trap on the otherside of the map it's easy to tame and get fish .

Yes, but he might sneak through so be careful.
My attempt did not work, the Shadowmane was present between the walls but the taming was not happening through the wall. So I removed a wall to feed it but it bugged at one point and wouldn't lay down anymore.
You might have to re-trap it, it's possible for them to teleport into walls.

@@RevPVP I managed to start taming but after a while, the taming bug as said above, the Shadowmane does not stop moving in the trap looking to change location and does not fall asleep anymore

There are a few videos of Shadowmane trap ideas but yours by far is most simple easy and most effective.
Wish I saw this last night. It would have saved me like an hour of trying to tame a shadowmane and avoiding the 3 spinos it kept going to sleep around.
7:14 i think if you do it with salmon is beter cuz salmon came in biger sizes and it don't attak you unless you attak them so you have the control of it

You're stronger than I am then, I failed it once at the start of Gen 2 and gave up until now.
@@RevPVP I play with booster levels (goes by 6 instead of 5) and taming a 180 the regular crouch up way took me 2 hours and so I just tamed a 20 for a breeder Bc I was pissed
I don't reccomend bringing a tame to do this. Especially if they are near other creatures.

btw you dont need the ramp you can just float above the trap and when it teleports to you just dash away
Yes, I believe I mentioned this in the video. It's also how I trapped it in the video. Only reason the ramp is there is because you want to trap it as fast as possible since you have limited time to tame it. So if it wants to walk in, let it walk in

I lost all my sanity while trying to tame at least ONE the usual way over the last 24 hours. Shooting a net at it, building gates around it and trying to approach it from the back all the time. The amount of times it randomly reset back to 0 while i was miles away is astonishing. Imo a testament to how technically flawed this game STILL is.

Bro this is fr the only method that worked for me, you my man are a legend. No bs either which is great, straight to the point.
For everyone having the problem that the Shadowmane does not lie down: If you are using the S+ Structures mod, that might be the problem. Use the normal structures. And after the Shadowmane is trapped, remove the ramps to make sure its only attacking the walls. Replace the attacked wall until it abruptly stops attacking. thats the indicator. I've figured that you dont necassarily need to de-render. I've just got a bit of distance to it, collected fish and every time i got back, it was asleep

Bro thanks for this video helped me tame about 6 shadowmanes, now only problem I have is to get 100 efficiency and to catch good xp fish. I even noticed that all fish at 140lvl shadowmane gives 2.5% at 1x taming

This was a lifesaver! I’ve been getting so infuriated since the DLC released. Every time I’d get them to 70% and then they’d reset.

For anyone who is hesitant about trying this method, trust me it works.
Some things to note are that if replacing the wall/foundation it’s hitting doesn’t make it lose agro, for me personally I just left to get fish and when I got back it was asleep. Once the shadowmane is trapped make sure you don’t fly above the trap or they can escape. For reference it took me around 7 fish for a level 90 shadowmane most of which were 1.0x and up.

Didnt work for me, I got him in and replaced the walls he was attacking and he didnt get stuck he keeps moving around in the box not aggroing on me or the walls not sleeping as well

@@helaling388 Make sure you're derendering the trap, there are no other shadowmanes nearby, and that you're replacing the correct walls and the time of day is right. Most people aren't having issues

Hey rev are the pirhanas better taming efficiency than the coels? There's spots in multiple tiny rivers on Eden side with over spawned coels that physically can't move. So I don't wanna miss out on lvls ya know?
I don't think the type of fish impact it, but the coels range greatly in size so it's harder to find them either way.

Think some can be bugged? Mine is just strolling around inside the trap, doing some headbobbing now and again, but never attacking anything and never sleeping.
Make sure no other Shadowmanes are in render of him, and also make sure time of day is correct of course.
If it's day and there not asleep net them is will reset them
So, i found the highest wild stat i think i have ever seen. 39 points in melee wild, 295%, and obviously someone killed it. However, seems there is an internal CD timer for feeding(now?), keeps saying that its already eating. So far i am looking at around 10m+ per feed. 20m+ for first to second feed. Same as usual passive tames. Also, i am trying to tame one right now, and it just walked out of the trap. :D Even teleported at me from inside the trap. My trap is a 2x2 metal, with 3 walls high and ceilings on top.

How useful are Shadowmanes tho? Like is it just nice for pve or are they essential for pvp?
They can dismount and have good natural armor, plus they can ground fliers so they are very good for open pvp
I have a team of them for boss battles. High level ones come with as much armor as an ascendant saddle that you don't need to craft first. They hit pretty much the same as Tek Rexes with much better turning radius. They are worth it
In my opinion as a standalone tame with current stats it's pretty bad, but it will be a monster when it gets bred up.
@@RevPVP yes, but even dolce tamed ones can get lost of health, and with the armor they’re good, the weight and melee needs work, but mutated they will be ridiculous and they look kinda cool too
I did as you but it never wanted to go to sleep despite me changing the walls and such. Didnt think it would be so glitched or bugged.. it moved inside the trap as if it couldnt turn around enough to go to sleep AND it glitched into the wall two times where I had to destroy the walls it was stuck on and replace them.. anyone else had issues with this trap?
Yes, i have tried it many times and the damn Shadowmane just glitch everytime and the netgun somehow allows the Shadowmane to get out of the trap when it wakes up so bad idea
