Giles Corey is fer sure one of my favorite albums out there. It’s so dissonant and visceral that it becomes a full on experience, and I say that as someone who really isn’t into most folk-style music. I know you said in the beginning that you loved Deathconsciousness and I absolutely agree but I have to ask if you’ve listened to any of Have a Nice Life’s catalogue aside from Deathconsciousness. Their B-Sides are worth a listen and The Unnatural World is like a more apocalyptic, less depressive Deathconsciousness while being much more tightly packed. anyways good vid
It was nice to see someone react so positively to one of my favourite abums. Giles Corey by Giles Corey is easily the most important piece of musical art that have ever entered my life, considering how many times it saved me from ending it all. You can tell that Dan knows what he's talking about, the contrast between the quiet, hushed parts, and the parts of loud ecstatic release hits so close to home.
Those were my feelings exactly, but much much more eloquently put, thanks so much for the kind words :) it's such an emotional opus That's so moving and pained, you can feel the passion that went into it.
Think Giles Corey is doing much better nowadays. He’s a well esteemed realtor and has a wife and kids. Sometimes he plays shows with HANL and as Giles Corey but he’s mostly a common man now.
i absolutely loved this reaction and i’m so glad you enjoyed it. when i first listened to this album in 2019 it remained as a comfort all the way through to 2022. even as i started moving into a better place in late 2021 this album always felt like it was a home i could return that held no grudges when i fell into old habits again and again. i’m in a far better place now but when i needed this album it was so clear that dan understood exactly what he was talking about. that feeling of being so sure of his own death and speaking of it as an event that had already happened is something that felt all too comfortable. that fucking moment in no one is ever going to want me will always remain as my favourite moment in all of music, it’s so overwhelming and it makes me want to fall to my knees every time i hear it even to this day 4 years after my first listen. thank you for this reaction, you’ve earned a sub and i hope you have a wonderful new year, friend
So good to see someone giving this record the love it deserves, it has had a special place in the back of my brain for a while now. It sits alongside deathconsciousness and xiu xiu for music I very rarely listen to but that is my all time favorite. Would love to see a lift your skinny fists reaction, one of fhe greatest records ever recorded in my honest opinion. Keep it up!
Thanks so much! Yeah I'm gonna get back into the reactions in a bit becuase I just finished exams and got sick again, I'm a little scared of lift your skinny fists becuase it seems like a lot but I've got 2 vids in the running!
@@barchel Haha, if you got through Giles Corey and Deathconsciousness, skinny fists should be no problem, I'm sure you will love it, but take you time of course!!
This album is beautiful but very sad, I suffer from depression so this is kind of a relief to me, I loved your reaction! Do you know the band Slowdive? It's a shoegaze band from the 90s and the songs are also very atmospheric like this album, if you're not familiar with them I'd sugest the album Souvlaki, it's beautiful ❤ I'd love to see your analysis!
One of m friends reccomended that album to me a few ears back so i probably should listen to it haha. Thanks for the lovely comment, and i agree that even apon further listens there is something so cathartic about this album. Its Very Open and Vast.
I'm going to do it hit so hard :( I don't even feel positive anymore. I probably shouldn't be watching this because of my history of struggling with depression.
Please could you react to "Have A Nice Life" it's a band the singer was in, the songs on the album Deathconsciousness are a lot like these, I would love to see your reaction
Deathconscious is one of my fav albums of all time, one of my 7 10/10s out of the 90 or so odd albums I've listened to. Its atmosphere and raw emotion is so powerful and beautifully dark.
I'm going to do analysis videos on all my tens and also my fav nin albums but if you want to see the rest of my ratings, my album of the year page is in the description
Great review! It's rare that I comment on reactions but I have to admit we shared quite the similar reactions to this album upon first listens. It's beautifully haunting and yet it feels familiar. I watched your review a while back and along with a few other reviewers, it inspired me to write one of my own about this album! I'd be honoured if you'd check it out. Hope you're doing well :)
Not many people know this, but Giles Corey was half of Dan’s solo project at this time. He initially made Giles Corey as the sister project of Black Wing, a project he made completely drenched in electronica. 2015’s “…Is Doomed” is his first album under Black Wing, but I’d recommend checking out his sophomore release “No Moon” from 2020, it’s much better production and sound wise. I love both albums so much! Thanks for the reaction, just subbed!
Thanks for the nice words! I thought i was all caught up with the Dan story since i knew about giles corey and nahvalr, ill definitely need to check it out!
Sorry for the late reply but I have listened to deathconsciousness before and alotz absolutely love that project, back when my friend showed me parts of it 2 years ago I was flabbergasted. I'm going to make an analysis video on it at some point like my year zero one :)

Yeah I am going to listen to the unnatural world at some point, thanks so much for the positive feedback!
Loved this reaction!

That is an incredibly poignant comment and I am glad you are in a better place now. Thanks so much.
I've been waiting for the longest time for someone to react to this album.
Thank you!

Sorry to hear about that, i hope things look up in the future. Its a really desolate and unforgiving album so yeah i don't blame you.
