Followed their build and remember answering questions on several of the sites their one. We also are full-time and pull with a converted semi truck. We've been full-time since 2013 and with a Volvo truck since 2014. Over time you carry less repair stuff as you learn what breaks more often, what spares you need to carry etc. We carry small designated totes for 12v electric, 120v electric, RV plumbing, truck air, truck "Plumbing" (radiator hoses, heater hose), RV tire-bearing-suspension, and then various totes for tools. Our Volvo is singled short as well but has a bed with 5 boxes to help store stuff. Currently, we're dragging a DRV Memphis floorplan at 46' and double towing a Smart car behind it. 74' overall.
Kudos to Josh and Megan. This is the nicest finished Crawler Hauler I've seen to date. Well done! I went the reverse, lengthening a Volvo VNL 730 to carry/garage my 4-door Jeep and pull a 5th wheel RV trailer. We're 70 feet going down the road.
Very knowledgeable young man...... I have built what we need and want .... The guy over there has what he wants the guy on over there has what he needs and wants!!! 1 size don't fit all ........ EVER!! Wise words from such a youngster
This episode should be named “Mad Max Special”. I could see this literally in the RV future! Would love the same set-up as well!! Storage, stability, accessibility. WOW WOW & MORE WOW !!!! Thanks for the review!! “They do exist!” LOL LOL Happy Happy trails to all!!
I followed his build on ig. It doesnt get any better than that. So many diy'ers out there building crawler haulers, some manufacturers have finally taken notice and are offering their own.
The Volvo Vacationer. Very impressed with the build and going from a tent to this!! Unbelievable! As a truck driver I'd put a Pete or KW up front, but you did a fantastic job pulling this together!
Glad you guys liked it! I did this one entirely by myself. My first time with detailed music edits...Cheri normally does the cool editing. Loved meeting you guys and making this video...yes, see you on the road and safe travels friends!
Great video! Thank you for making it one long video instead of breaking it up into small parts. Fantastic intro! I love seeing someone's imagination come to reality. Thanks for taking the time to travel, film and edit this one, your efforts are recognized! Thank you!!!
Hey kids,,, i Usually don't bloviate but,,, given the length of this vid, my enjoyment of this extravaganza hit me about ten levels up from your previous work and held me beginning to end. Creativity in vidiography, presentation and music selection was exceptional, and as an "outside the box closet dreamer" i am motivated as I contemplate transforming my first type III ambulance.
Love this video. I wish them much luck on the road. So happy he made the choice of his family over the business and money. You never get those days back. Good job mom and dad. Name it " going big for the kids"
Hey Tom would like to just thank you for for the great video ,unbelievable that you flew all the way out there to interview these folks. I especially like this video because I am undetermined which way to go, If I go with a 5th wheel it will definitely be a big rig. I watch Sweet Travels On their channel and really didn't Realize that the big rig was an option or how big that setup has actually grown. So great to see that set up not sure if I would go to that extent If I did decide to go with a big rig but I can definitely see the advantages in what he has done. So would just like to thank you for the video. Safe travels back home
Another family living their best life! This is amazing! We just started out three months ago in a 28’ Winnebago. There’s so much to learn. What an inspiration to say the least.😊 And yes, yes, yes! No school could ever offer your children what you are giving them.🥰
If you remember me I can be critical of you tubers. This was a good job with great content. I enjoyed it. The couple was also well spoken. Amazing job with the Solitude. I have seen 5th wheels on flat beds that where damaged but not like this. Wow.
What an amazing family they deserve all the happiness on their travels. I will say jealousy is a nasty disease and I'm suffering from it immensely with their setup. I also fear the unknown of driving a fifth wheel around but something about that truck that says everything will be okay. Amazing video Tom just said that Sheri wasn't with you to see your favorite spot. I will say with all the travels I've shared with you it is definitely my favorite spot as well and I hope one day to be able to be there .
The main couch has a hide-a-bed we make up daily. We have big plans for a new semi with a bunk house in it. Obviously they won’t need it until they get older but we’re planning ahead.
I had same question about where kids sleep. ....thanks for that answer. No way I'd want to do that set up every night and am.. that would have been a priority for me.
@@denisephillips9269 stay tuned we have an amazing bunk house plan since day one. The build for that will start this year. It’s going to be soooo cool.
This is one of your awesome content! I watched it all the way to the end. I love the rig set up and for the name I would like to name the truck “Maximus” and the trailer “Maximilian” or “Maxi”.
I love how you talk about the stopping power!! Most of the people don't think of that they just read the manual and say ya my truck engine can tow that. love it nice set up.
A great video. Best I've seen thus far. What a wonderful setup and great family. All the best to them and the adventures they're bringing to their children. Tom kudo's for sharing this, great content. Also a name that I think would be fitting might include something with Crystals. Maybe something like "Crystalize" or "Crystalasaurus". Lol
Wow! What a amazing video! Necessity (or desire) truly is the mother of invention. Your creativity has blown the walls completely off my box. Wonderful adventurous life!! Thank You for sharing🤗
Tom this was an Incredible video! They have the same Grand Design I do. This guy has it all dialed in doesn't he!? Amazing what this family is all about. Those cats were Awesome!!
Well done on the build. I seen this before. We have a customer who bought a new welder to finish his. He had some setup issues on the welder so I went over to help him out. I got to see his. He did a 45' trailer with a older smaller r.v.!! Nice build!!!
Just wanted to say love ya guys and missed ya Haven't seen one of your videos in a while. I m so getting spring fever. Camping, fishing, swimming, BBQs....AAAAHHHH
This looks like an incredible rig, but one minor issue is that particular tractor is not designed to haul 80k pounds (28:36). With only one drive axle, regardless of engine horsepower, it is probably specced for about 7k more than you can legally do with your rig. In other words the tractor can haul at 66k pounds GCWR but you are at 59k: 12k steers, 20k drives, 27k for the three trailer 9k singles. The lowest weight rating (axle, tire, or state regulations) controls that number for each axle, so be very careful when you replace tires or you may lose weight capacity.
@@51-FS I do not recommend driving overweight to see for yourself. You might get away with it for some time, but you may not. If you make it obvious the police absolutely will notice and the only thing that matters for commercial versus personal use is in the former case the violation goes against the company and the driver instead of the driver alone. The states where I have registered large vehicles for personal use charge significantly more for those vehicles based upon their weight. They have a reason for doing so, and the registered weight has been on every vehicle registration I have had for large vehicles - personal use or commercial. Tires and axles don't care if you are driving your personal vehicle or using the vehicle in commerce. If you exceed the weight rating you are operating the vehicle in an unsafe manner, which is unlawful. Many of the regulations for commercial vehicles do not apply to vehicles not used in commerce, but operating the vehicle safely is the obligation of every single driver using the roads.
You are correct. I was referring to what the tractor was originally intended to haul. We are 48,080lbs loaded and full of water, diesel, and truck on back. We plan to add another 1000lbs in solar but that’s about it for us. We should be right at 50,000lbs unless we dump 200gal of water when we tow. Then we should be right back to where we are now. As for tires, that’s why we went to the 17.5 Alcoa and double coin rubber, the last thing we would do now is skimp on safety ;-)
@@BoostedFJ I have been thinking of starting with a standard dry box and building it into an RV myself, but mounting yours on a high-quality trailer was definitely a stroke of genius. Tires are hard to come by at the current moment, but they truly are a safety-critical item. Another thing that may be problematic is the pickup truck's overhang. I don't know if you have and/ or use flags/ lights for the rear of the truck but in states such as Arizona any overhang at all requires one (daytime) or both (night).
Love your end of video recaps. It reminds me of Laura Ingall Wilder. Something was always said @ the end of Little House on the Prairie. Usually stated by Michael Landon (Pa) or Melissa Gilbert (Half Pint).
THIS is exactly what I have been looking for. Seriously! Like, near EXACT ! Now I NEED a few pics of this rig so I can put it on my dream board. If the owner see this comment, PLEASE reach out to me. I Did see a sign on the inside that said DREAM BIG ! and that is exactly what I am doing. If EnjoyTheJourney sees that, please pass this humble request on the the owners in the hopes that they would grant my request for some dream photos. I LOVE how this is put together ! It actually goes beyond what I have been trying to dream of, but my drawings don't even come close to this.
Wonderful video and great family. The first name that came to mind for the semi is "The Beast". My companion is a trucker and those machines are the real deal.... they really haul..hence the Beast!
Your stuff is getting fantastic! I know the work involved! It's a sin to envy...ugh! God can ya give me a break?! That rig is incredible! Needs a special name for sure. That kid is lucky. All the fun and non of the responsibility. We had a two room tent and filled up 1 in foam across the floor.
Tom; great interview and photos of Josh & Meghan Russell’s wild RV Solitude, Black Volvo Semi and that white four-door HD truck; my question is did you ever ask to see if Meghan drives that big Semi??
my friend and i were just talking about building this just the other day. living on the east coast we really like heading west to all the killer off-road trails But living quarters and a rear deck for my jeep or a couple side by sides. But a little bit smaller. enough to pull with a F350
If you ever have trouble getting into spots you should put the convex mirrors on the front corners of your rig. As professional truck driver I use those convex mirrors on the left and front fenders every day.
With so much time and effort into this and they left the wheel wells I would imagine if they reached out to the manufacturer who they said is aware of their build. Awesome looking unit also adding a collapsible screen room to the back would be a pretty nice addition.
Q WOW, what a unit. Nice looking. I know it was mentioned, as each Sate registration is different, but you would think you would need a air break endorsement on license. I wouldn't think that heavy unit is hydrolic and the trailer electric breaks. You would think just the GVW would make you have some kind of endorsement. Even for a "RV"
cool cat's. Not going to lie. I love this setup. I am a class 1 driver, all I need is the money, and worry about the weight . well the weights won't be an issue this is cool. thanks to everybody for sharing
This is a fantastic build. Just from experience leaving your business in the hands of people that are "like family" is the biggest mistake you could make with your business. If you are not there to watch your money you have given someone the keys to the safe and don't be surprised when someone embezzles and steals your future.
Grand design had a G series toy hauler with a short outside deck on the rear. I think it was 12’ to 14’ long. Had an awesome outside storage/ kitchen area on the deck. It was set up sort of like an outside bar. I don’t think it sold well. It was quite an awesome setup.
I'm retired and have been thinking about a tow hauler converted into a special rear living with the tail gate raiseing up for a coverd patio with screened sides and back doors. Fold back side and screens and have a rear deck to haul a travel vehicle plus maybe a sidebeside in loveing room
Remember that George Thorogood song 'Ride on, Josephine'? Call it Maxine to also tie in the Mad Max theme, and because a proper yacht also needs a feminine name. Or maybe War Pig (Remember Pigs on the Wing?). My dad used to always play that music on road trips. I can just picture you rolling down the open road jamming to that. Brings back memories. So cool guys, it sure pays to be a fabricator when you want to do something different!
Another option with washer is to have a separate grey tank just for washer and recycle water through a filter system. Friends removed their bathroom in garage and installed washer dryer there and used the black tank from that bathroom as washer grey tank. Works well and hasn't had any issues in 5 years
The main couch has a hide-a-bed we make up daily. We have big plans for a new semi with a bunk house in it. Obviously they won’t need it until they get older but we’re planning ahead.
Can we just take a moment to recognize Grand Design here? During a time when many manufacturers are cutting corners and distancing themselves from their clients - we have THIS. Have you made it to their annual national rally yet? Would love to see the reactions from that...😆 Also, the Volvo with the Cummins is a perfect setup - even for commercial drivers. Have you been messed with by any state's DOT?

What an amazing family they deserve all the happiness on their travels. I will say jealousy is a nasty disease and I'm suffering from it immensely with their setup. I also fear the unknown of driving a fifth wheel around but something about that truck that says everything will be okay. Amazing video Tom just said that Sheri wasn't with you to see your favorite spot. I will say with all the travels I've shared with you it is definitely my favorite spot as well and I hope one day to be able to be there .
This guys goal in life is to never be outdone. My guess is he will never have enough.
Watch the video again. You’ll see I have all I need in that video. Love, Helth & my family is “enough” for me. Safe travels 🙌🏻
Colossus! Amazing build, incredible imagination and execution of ideas
Tom, This gets the award for the Most Unusual Video. Great job..
Wow, thanks!
" King of the Road " with a mural of the rig driving through their most favorite adventure !!!
This is an amazing rig! Can't wait to show this to my hubby. I think this is just what we needed to see. Great job you two!.
Awesome! Thank you!
Master Blaster is what they should call their rig! It’s even a Mad Max reference. Loved the fabrication on his setup, well done!
Peoples creativity always amazes me. Very cool. Good video. Long. But thanks for sharing.
Incredible interview! So very well explained! A possible name for the rig could be Thundertruck!😘🖖🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
RV Name..."Thunder Home" like mad max Thunder Dome
Cool, I saw you guys at lone tree In Havasu last month. Definitely an awesome rig !
Awesome video!! Love the knowledge and experience this young man have in renovating. Love the children.
Great rig! Great video covering everything. I was also curious about where the kiddo’s sleep??
The main couch has a hide-a-bed we make up daily. We have big plans for a new semi with a bunk house in it. Obviously they won’t need it until they get older but we’re planning ahead.
@@BoostedFJ Did you do the custom fabs ? Like on the front storage bay under the 5th wheel?
I had same question about where kids sleep. ....thanks for that answer. No way I'd want to do that set up every night and am.. that would have been a priority for me.
@@denisephillips9269 stay tuned we have an amazing bunk house plan since day one. The build for that will start this year. It’s going to be soooo cool.
This is one of your awesome content! I watched it all the way to the end. I love the rig set up and for the name I would like to name the truck “Maximus” and the trailer “Maximilian” or “Maxi”.
Maximus is a great name!
Tom, we need more coverage on the frame/lowboy interface fabrication etc
That’s called an RV, Clark 👍
I love how you talk about the stopping power!! Most of the people don't think of that they just read the manual and say ya my truck engine can tow that. love it nice set up.
This is what dreams are made of this rig is awesome 👍😎
Great video Tom! Name for the big rig: Goliath
Thanks so much!
What a great video. Nice work and a well given tour of this “black beast”
That was fabulous! Everything from the family, the rig and your interaction. Just loved it. ❤❤❤
Well done on the build. I seen this before. We have a customer who bought a new welder to finish his. He had some setup issues on the welder so I went over to help him out. I got to see his. He did a 45' trailer with a older smaller r.v.!! Nice build!!!
Thanks for bringing this story to us. Great job Tom. This rig is awesome
That is an awesome crawler hauler!! Very jealous of that set up, no issue towing whatever you could dream up.
Wow! That is some set-up!!!
Lovely tour lovely family
Really enjoyed the interview, you did a great job Tom! Safe travels! And we missed Cheri.
Cheri is missed as she always adds something divine to their videos.
I love this family 🎉❤
Can't not for hire trucks do what they want?
@@r2db We we’re hauling the pickup temporarily, the Crawler is with us 90% of the time and it’s 4ft shorter with no overhang.
I appreciate all the work you put into this video. Thanks.
Love your end of video recaps. It reminds me of Laura Ingall Wilder. Something was always said @ the end of Little House on the Prairie. Usually stated by Michael Landon (Pa) or Melissa Gilbert (Half Pint).
I was starting to think we weren't going to get to see the inside. It starts at about 01:13:00
THIS is exactly what I have been looking for.
Definitely jealous! I would call the setup
The
" Dream Weaver "
Love the Florida tag above the Dometic freezer!
Very impressive! I really enjoyed watching this one 😊 ThunderMax!
Wonderful video and great family. The first name that came to mind for the semi is "The Beast". My companion is a trucker and those machines are the real deal.... they really haul..hence the Beast!
I loved your tour Tom of the truck and camper . Your kids are so precious how could we not prescribe to your channel .Black Beauty
This is the guy I'll park my Black Series HQ21 next to when the zombies start biting.
Going big for the kids is my vote. Enjoyed this video Thax for all your hard work.
Great video Tom,!! Great family memories being made. "Midnight intimidator" would be a cool name.
Just watch this and amazing work!!!! This is what I’m would love to do.
Just amazing!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!
Purely by pure inspiration, "Thriller" for your amazing rig!
Tom; great interview and photos of Josh & Meghan Russell’s wild RV Solitude, Black Volvo Semi and that white four-door HD truck; my question is did you ever ask to see if Meghan drives that big Semi??
my friend and i were just talking about building this just the other day.
living on the east coast we really like heading west to all the killer off-road trails
But living quarters and a rear deck for my jeep or a couple side by sides.
But a little bit smaller. enough to pull with a F350
I have a question. Is the flag pole an antenna and if so what kind of radio?
That is a GREAT rig. I'm very impressed.
If you ever have trouble getting into spots you should put the convex mirrors on the front corners of your rig. As professional truck driver I use those convex mirrors on the left and front fenders every day.
Great job showing and telling, I have a 30’ lots of fun for sure. Well have fun see ya next time see ya bye.
ETJL thx for taking us along on your journey. What a rig.
With so much time and effort into this and they left the wheel wells I would imagine if they reached out to the manufacturer who they said is aware of their build. Awesome looking unit also adding a collapsible screen room to the back would be a pretty nice addition.
Really enjoyed the video , lots of good info and just a great interview.
Q
WOW, what a unit.
We wanted to go to Lee's Ferry last year but weren't able too, this year for sure.
Hellfire once again great video Tom and they seem like fantastic people living da dream on there magical mystery tour
What an awesome setup! Great video Tom, thanks!
cool cat's.
Not going to lie. I love this setup.
I am a class 1 driver, all I need is the money, and worry about the weight .
well the weights won't be an issue
this is cool. thanks to everybody for sharing
A mini split system heat pump would work great for your rig
Great idea
This is a fantastic build. Just from experience leaving your business in the hands of people that are "like family" is the biggest mistake you could make with your business. If you are not there to watch your money you have given someone the keys to the safe and don't be surprised when someone embezzles and steals your future.
Love the setup. Only issue is the size limitation where they can park the beast
Amazing editing Tom! Just love your video's!
I am a retired over-the-road driver, and I used to pull step deck. should look into lift axle on the trailer that'll help you back in sharper
This is something I’ve been toying with. What axle would be best to lift?
The rear axle would be the best to lift that would shorten your wheel base to help but it could also cause tail swing.
@@andrewgilbreath1331 I’m looking into this
love the design and idea behind it. safer than triple tow. judging by lowboy vs camper shell what is the height? guessing would be around 13' 4"?
He said in the video it was 13’ 8”
I have been dreaming of this set up for years.
Now that's what you call Heaven on Earth
What an amzing rig they have
Crazy isn't it!
I totally agree. He is the safest 5th wheel on the road.
You should hear my retirement plans
Nice and unique Glamping Machine. My recommendation for names; HDT as Roadrunner and RV as Beep-Beep…
This goes down as one of my favorites , thanks !
Works well and hasn't had any issues in 5 years
What an awesome video! This guy is awesome!. Very informative as are all of your videos.
Glad you like them!
Wow massive upgrades!! Where do the babies sleep ? Safe Travels 💙 Should be just Madea because she is no nonsense 🤣
Would love to see the reactions from that...😆
Also, the Volvo with the Cummins is a perfect setup - even for commercial drivers. Have you been messed with by any state's DOT?
