Bought this pipe bc my grandpa smoked this pipe while working on the farm. Tonight is the first time I have smoked it. Very unique set-up! Im glad I got it, if only to remember him!! Found your video to see what others had to say about it.
I have collected a number of Falcons over the past 60 years, and I have found they all live up to everything you've said about them. I don't often smoke aromatic tobacco but when I do, I usually smoke it in a Falcon since it is very easy to clean and I am able to dedicate particular bowls to aromatic baccies and thus not worry too much about "ghosting".
Good morning. Just watched your vid on the Falcon Pipe. I have 2 of them. The oldest is 29 years old and the newest is 23 years old. I have enjoyed many a pipe full especially on camping/fishing trips with a fellow pipe smoker. Great pipes. Another metal pipe you might check out is the Kirsten pipe made in Seattle Washington. The grand daughter still runs the store. Machined aluminum aircraft body with interchangeable bowls. Several different bodies and numerous bowls. I enjoy your vids.
I have several Falcon pipes that I smoke regularly. I even picked up a new meerschaum bowl for $1 at an antique store because they weren't sure what it was.
In another age, I think shortly after the dinosaurs disappeared, my high school football coach would smoke a pipe on the bus going to and from our games. I liked the smell of the tobacco. I didn't know what it was at the time, (I didn't know anything about pipes, so no surprise there) but I remember thinking what an interesting pipe he smoked. It was a Falcon.
great review. I have two Falcons, my chrome straight pipe with the smooth Dublin bowl is my go to pipe. my second is a black, full bend pipe mated with a meerchem lined hyperbole rustic bowl. It's amazing the weight difference between the two bowls. I prefer the Dublin bowl because it is much lighter and easy to clench for long periods. The Falcon pipes are really easy to clean and clear out moisture without having to worry about fitment issues from hot disassembly. The only issues I have with the pipes is the amount of moisture they develop and the high temperature the base reaches when the ember reaches the bottom of the bowl. I also discovered as the bowl builds cake, it will choke off where the button enters the bottom of the bowl. I had to scrape away the carbon with a pocket knife in order to clear the pathway to allow air (and smoke) to pass. I use this pipe a lot and have had to ream the bowl twice in the year I've owned it. (it's do for another reaming and will get maintenance as soon as I remember where I put my reaming kit.)
It's probably the best selling type of pipe over here, and I have to say they are incredibly practical for anyone who spends time outdoors. If you break any part it's really easy to fix, and can be adapted to prefference, unlike any other pipe I know of. The joys of standardisation allowing retrofit parts...... Mine is the black "Hunter" version, no shiny bits on it for obvious reasons. I quite fancy trying a meershaum lined bowl on it and see how it goes.
Falcon's are part of my collection. There's a only thing that I hate in them is the break in the new bowl...vile and terrible.,after that everything is okay. Dublin bowl and some Orlik's Golden Sliced a right bliss.Thank you for the video.
I really like my Falcon! If you’ve got a tobacco that burns hot for you in a briar, one of these could be the solution. Plus the bowls are different sizes and shapes so you can tailor the look and length of the smoke you want. Also, it’s very handy being able to take 2 or 3 bowls and just the one stem out with you for the day. Just make sure you let the bowl cool down before unscrewing to replace with another - the heat can affect the thread on the bowls so you want them to contract back into place before changing!
I know this is an old video, but I just found and cleaned up an old Dr Grabow Viking pipe for about $10 at an antique store. I just had my first smoke in it knowing nothing about the trick of wrapping a pipe cleaner around the center post in the condensation chamber. I certainly wish I had found this video before that. I'll definitely remember that before the next time I smoke it.
Falcon Pipes are great for aromatics. I discovered Falcons a long while back watching the 1980 Canadian horror movie "My Bloody Valentine." The actor in the movie playing the town's police chief smoked a Falcon Pipe in several scenes and I just fell in love with the design seeing the pipe used in that movie. I have a book I placed somewhere on the history of Falcon Pipes, if I can find it I tell you the name if you're interested.
I love those little electric fire heaters. They just add a nice atmosphere while not having the actual fireplace! Good video btw. Rather interesting and cool.
Muttnchop Piper Yes, they are on the expensive side to operate (some of them to buy too). The one I have has an option of just using the fire lights without the heater. Which is nice because it's less money. My apartment is also rather small so when I do run the heater it's not to much of a cost impact. I love sitting around it with a good book, and a nice blend of tobacco, rather relaxing.......
Very interesting! And a cool design. Here is my concern, what is known to me only as blue lung. Which is a condition associated with inhaling aluminum dust and from smoking, usually pot I believe, out of aluminum cans or pipes/bats. Now I could be wrong about that but I have always heard that heating aluminum can cause this. I see that the bowl is not aluminum, but I would still want to know more about the effects, if any of drawing hot smoke through an aluminum shaft. I love every video I’ve seen from you, especially you stories and music. And you opinions and knowledge of pipes, tobacco and smoking are greatly appreciated.
I know about aluminum cans being dangerous if you smoke pot out of them, but as it seems, the problem isn't really the aluminum, it's the coatings and colorings, which are on those cans. And even if the problem was the aluminum, as we all know, you don't inhale with pipe tobacco, unless you are literally hotboxing a really small room, which I know is something that usually you only do with pot ;D
Hey there Mr. Muttnchop, I love your videos. I've picked up an old and dirty Falcon pipe at the flea market the other day, and I don't have any idea how to deep clean and sanitize it. Thought it worth the shot to ask you
Hello there, it’s been four years since you posted this comment so you have almost certainly found a way to deep clean your falcon pipe - I was only going to suggest you might try alcohol, as it is a good pipe cleaning agent, but be careful not to get it on the finish of the bowl as a lot of the finishes can be damaged by alcohol. Hope this helps! Take care 🙂
Thanks, just smoked mine for the first time, and I have to say, it was a little hot, I think it needs a carbon cake, I'll keep smoking it, it should cool down once I get a carbon cake.
+Muttnchop Piper Have it properly worked? I was thinking of buying one Falcon pipe but didn't know if it really made a difference. The other day we talked about the problem 1ve been facing with the overheating of virginias. I think the answer will be on a mix of different approaches, like blending the tobacco (as advised by you), changing the pipe and trying to puff a little slower (I don't usually puff hard, on the contrary, I tend to have long and mild puffs but sometimes I have problem in keeping the pipe lit and I think I might have been puffing too often, overheating the bowl). As I previously said, it happens mainly with virginias. Muttnchop, I've never had a Peterson pipe, do you know something about the Peterson system pipe, which was developed to cool down the smoke by supposedly keeping the moisture in a special reservoir (pipedia.org/wiki/A_closer_look_at_the_famous_Peterson_Standard_System_Pipe)? And again I need to emphasize the quality of your channel. A true "university of pipe smoking", lots of relevant information balanced with relaxing and casual facts about the world of pipes. Congrats!
+Bruno Modigliani I am sorry but I don't know anything about the Peterson system pipe, I'm thinking of purchasing one but right now I don't have any info on it
It may work. But probably, as a drawback, the cleaning process might be much more difficult. I think the best thing at my stage is to practice many different techniques while smoking my favourite tobaccos, applying a good balance of tampering and airing (as you've taught on other video, by the fireplace also), blending tobaccos etc. We pipers always seem to enjoy buying new pipes, but it might be much more enjoyable in the end to develop and improve one's techniques... Thanks again! As I've found it very informative, yesterday I've advertised your channel in a Facebook group here in Brazil (Confraria Amigos do Cachimbo -facebook.com/groups/cachimbo/?fref=ts). I hope it will be as useful to the other users as it's been to me. Keep on with this very well done project!
Would be cool if they added small radiator fins around the stem pipe. Or dimple it. But I guess even that would drive up manufacturing costs significantly...
I just started pipe smoking and tried creating one that does a similar thing for catching saliva. It is certainly the nastiest part of "piping" ,as my kid says. I've been thinking about using brass because aluminum is linked to alzheimer's/ dementia
Hi, great walkthrough - have You made the update video?. I have a Falcon in my direction. Suggestions about breaking in the pipe and user experience wanted :-)
You indicated in the video that you would do a follow-up video on the Falcons. Did you ever create that video? I'm thinking about buying one as a starter. Any thoughts?
Owen Johnson - I did not do a follow up video, sorry about that. I would highly recommend a Falcon as a first pipe, cool smoking easy to clean, interchangeable bowls, pull the trigger my friend, they are worth it. 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot for your videos, I find them very useful as a newbie. What kind of tobaccos would you recommend to smoke in the falcon? Greetings from Spain!
I just made the unfortunate discovery today that, when it is warm outside, smoking a pipe can turn from the usually joyous experience to a rather sour one quickly... But I think with a Falcon I may be able to counteract the heating up of even the stem (which until today has stayed always cool with my pipes): just wrap a bit of cotton around it and soak in water. The convection should increase the cooling capabilities potentially making enjoying a pipe despite warm outside temperatures possible... (I have a strict outdoors smoking policy. No matter how much one filters the air and all that some residues are likely left, and I will not subject my fellow housemates to second-hand smoke unless they want it - and so far they don’t, which is perfectly fine).
Muttnchop Piper it’s all about evaporation. That’s also why sweating cools down the body and wind feels colder. I am so glad I didn’t sleep through physics and chemistry class in school...😂 (Now one still has to see wether it will work with the falcon, but I have high hopes and am ready to order, just need my end of month wage).
Fly Tying with Justin Aldrich. - I hadn’t planned on one, but I can tell you they are good smokers, at least the ones I have, and I do recommend them. 👍👍👍
Thanks Chris/Muttnchop Piper . I only mentioned it because you said something about it on the video. I understand how things get though. How has your health been by the way? Hope things are well.
Fly Tying with Justin Aldrich. - sorry if you were expecting one, and to be honest, I don’t see why I couldn’t do a review, on the Falcon pipe, so I will add it to the list. My Health is great, but my computer that I use to upload videos is on its last legs, I have had it repaired twice, and the last tech said it won’t be long and it will be un-Usable. I don’t have the money to replace it, that’s why there hasn’t been much content lately, I’m trying to keep it running, if it goes, that’s it until I can save up to purchase a new one, sorry shouldn’t dump my problems on you, but I appreciate you being there to listen to me vent. I’ll try a do a review of the Falcon as soon as I can. 👍👍👍
Chris, think nothing of it. I dont even think that was a vent, but more of an explanation.... although you didn't have to, but of course its appreciated. I remember you mentioning your computer before. So I/we have been waiting for it to happen.. eventually. None of it matters anyways, you'll find things to keep you busy. How have the LCG's been with your son? Any new ones yet?
Fly Tying with Justin Aldrich. - Yes, he uploaded a new one from his computer a couple of days ago, a game called Lightseekers, he bought the game when he found it and we played it and loved it. It looks like a game for kids, but the amount of strategy really makes it enjoyable. 👍👍👍
Mario Rinaldi - not quite sure what you're asking here, if you're asking if the falcon pipe can use a small bowl then yes, there is a small bowl on one of the Falcons in this video. 🎃🎃🎃

I buyed a churchwarden just a week ago, and now I want a Falcon too, they look beautiful and very fun to smoke. Great video, thank you.
Love the look by the fireplace! Great idea for Pipe talks! I heard of Falcons but was never really interested. Now I am! Thanks! Alex

6:53 Imagine winning the draw where muttnchop is your father in law!
They're a few custom pipe makers that make bowls for the falcon.
Just bought my first one. Still waiting on it to come in the mail. Thanks for the video!

Yea, I agree, breaking in a new bowl is a chore, but worth it, they are great smokers, and right on with the golden sliced, love that blend as well 👍
I really like my Falcon! If you’ve got a tobacco that burns hot for you in a briar, one of these could be the solution. I just started to seriously look in to these pipe and you popped up which made my research that much better. Thank you
Erick Darkman Prado - if you are on the fence my man, pull the trigger, they are worth every penny. 👍👍👍
I definitely need a few of these for my collection. Love the look.
I have 5 Falcons in my collection but never really used them.. You got me thinking about them again. Great video Muttnchop

Yes I would definitely like the name thanks 😃😃😃👍

How much is the difference compared to running an actual heater that'll heat up the whole house, or one of those smaller heaters?
A smoking machine gun! I loved it!
This a great video and I love my falcon, but you’re wrong about 1 thing. Our biggest enemy in the pipe world isn’t heat, it’s politicians.
Very interesting! And a cool design.

When I grew up anyone the smoked a pipe, smoked a Falcon.

Are you sure that smoking aluminum is safe? Also, aren't you smoking the pipe cleaner too (like a filter)?
I like my falcon so far, and I’d like to experience it with a meerschaum bowl.
The term your looking for is dissipate. It dissipates heat. I know I sound like a smart aleck (not my intention).
I’m a beginner pipe smoker and I have purchased a Falcon not smoked it yet
Cool, you will enjoy it
Like the fire
adrian smith - Thank you my friend. 👍👍👍
How did they end up smoking for you? I have one on the way.
hillbilly piper - They are a great smoke, a little messy, at least that’s what I have found, but worth it. 👍👍👍
Thank you very much ol buddy. Done my first review for blend club. Hope i done well. I know how much it means to you
Stuff left inside the bowl is the dottle. Thanks for the vid.
Any update on the future review to these Falcon pipes Chris?

whether ronson pipe and the falcon pipe can use the same bowl??really need the answer :)) tx....
Mario Rinaldi - not quite sure what you're asking here, if you're asking if the falcon pipe can use a small bowl then yes, there is a small bowl on one of the Falcons in this video. 🎃🎃🎃
Muttnchop Piper i mean is falcon bowl fit to ronson pipe(stem)?
Mario Rinaldi - sorry my friend I don't know, I do not own a Ronson 😒😒😒
Muttnchop Piper its oke..i think im gonna try to buy a falcon pipe and just try it...hahah..ur video is so great by the way..i learned so much about pipe by watching ur video..:)...
Mario Rinaldi - thank you my friend, and that's what I would do, if the bowl doesn't fit, you still have a nice pipe to smoke 👍👍👍
Which do you prefer the falcon or the kirsten?
Devin Petersen - I’ll have to say the Falcon, the bowls are cheaper but good quality, and there is a more variety of bowls as well. 👍👍👍
Okay...i will invest in a Falcon 🙄😁
Is it best to build up a cake on these bowls too..??
Kenny Cowell - yes, unless it’s lined with meerschaum, then no. 👍👍😁
do you use falcon pipe cleaners or standard pipe cleaners
Standard, but I am very careful 👍
thank you just got me a falcon
+Norman Williams congrats I think you will enjoy it 👌🏼
Any update on the falcons?
David Haines - I'm not sure what you mean? 😏😏😏
Have the falcon pipes lived up to your expectations ? Do you enjoy them?
David Haines - Oh yes, one of my favorite pipes to smoke out and about, I highly recommend them. 👍👍👍
Get closer. it's hard to see the items you're trying to show.
- will Do. 👍👍👍
I know many of you will disagree, but I just think the Falcons are so damn ugly.
Functionality above looks!! The falcon pipes are amazing to use - lightweight, low maintenance and affordable.
