This video takes the viewer through a journey of discovery that I Came Upon while smoking one of my favorite blends of tobacco with regards to cellaring pipe tobacco

Inadvertent cellaring...Cleaning my workbench I found an old margarine tub with an aromatic blend I hand mixed...in 1987. It was a little dry so I re-hydrated it and it smoked very nicely. Good flavor to be sure, but I don't know that I would say it was any better than before it fell behind the toolbox. At least I can say I've smoked 31 year old tobacco. (For any Virginians out there, it was mixed at the "Ye Olde Tobacconist Shoppe" that used to be in Busch Gardens, Williamsburg). Keep up the great videos, brother.
Dude I hope you come back eventually your videos are truly amazing!! I hope you are well!! This coming Thursday is thanksgiving, I do sincerely hope you are well!!
I recently found a tin of Old Dark Fired at a tobacconist in Baton Rouge, LA. It had almost 4 years of age on it. When I got back to Texas and opened it, the scent of fermentation was overpowering. There was so much plume on this tobacco, (loupe verified, not mold!). Amazing.
Very clear. I've never thought about that. From now on I'll buy my tins two by two, one for immediate use, since I know myself and couldn't resist tasting a new purchase almost on spot, and one for cellaring. Thank you Sir.
I am a big fan of cellaring, but sadly some of my favorites are flake tobacco's that come in square tins. The square tins tend to be very finicky about maintaining their seal. I would recommend going ahead and popping the seal on these, and dropping them into an appropriate sized mason jar to advance the aging process. I've had too many square tins compromised in the past, to take any chances. Another great video Chris!
just popped a tin of best brown flake last night, made a sccchhhhhuurpt sound as I leveraged the coin in the corner. Unfortunately, I don't think SG stuff ages well. It was extremely goopy, and the smoke was acrid and awful. Hopefully things will change.
Dear, I join the comment of the colleagues, if the videos of the channel could have subtitles in Spanish, it would go further spreading what we like the most! Congratulations for such content and greetings from Córdoba, Argentina... good 💨💨
You're right on the spot here. When years ago I first learned from American YT pipe presenters about cellaring (which doesn't seem to be a common practice over here in Europe), I was sceptical, to say the least. But as soon as I'd tried it, my doubts vanished. Cellaring really does make a difference, especially to English blends. Now I always let a few tins of my favourite tobaccos sit for 2-3 years before popping them.
hey mr muttnchop i quit smoking cigarettes after 45 years .one year clean i decided to try a pipe and im loving it but i didnt know there was so much to it im learning a lot from your videos thank you so much and keep doing it all the best my friend from the uk
Sounds like you got lucky on getting aged tins. I made a little trip to a nearby cigar/pipe shop yesterday and they had a large stock of mcclelland tins and I picked up 8 of my favorite tins and a couple cigars to try. A couple were dingy from the cigar smoke- a good sign. They had price stickers over the dates so I couldn't tell the age in the store, after getting home and doing some peeling I was delighted, a few of the oldest ones were St. James Woods from 2011 and Bombay Court from 09' . They had a bunch more left that had gotten dingy. I will be going back soon, they even gave me a 10% discount for showing my pipe club card.
Dear Chris, thank you for sharing this interesting experience! I myself came recently about a tin of Wellauer's Best (a tobacco that I haven't smoked so far) at my little newspaper and tobacco shop round the corner. It still has a price and tax label in Deutsche Mark, therefore it is at least from 2001, before the Euro was introduced. I wonder how it has developed, and I will buy me a new tin to compare it, just for curiousity. Let's see! Best regards from Munich, Peter
I dont really smoke pipe any more, buuut when i happen to see a tobbaco shop i go over to the pipe tobbaco and pic the rustiest oldest boxes. The tastiest ones i roll up in ciggaret paper and smoak. Once you try aged tobbaco you cant live without it. Just a tip... Oh its true for olives too. Just pick the oldest tin you can find in the shop.
Thank you for teaching your valuable experience! Your a gentleman, a scholar, and a glass of fine wine, and there’s damn few left of us! Could you tell us what books you have on your shelf! Thank you!
I want to thank you for making these videos. Knowing what to do with your tobacco and pipes makes smoking so much more enjoyable. I wish I had discovered your videos years ago, perhaps I wouldn't have made every rookie mistake possible.
ddilley83 - You're welcome my friend, I'm right there with you, I wish I had the me of today to talk to and help me out back in 1978 it would of prevented a lot of misery. 👍👍👍
Wow, it seems I have the same!! I bought the same deal from the website and I checked now, 2012 it is!! thank you for making me notice since I haven't cracked any open until now... what a channel!
Hi there my piping good buddy, back here for my nightly routine of watching your videos here, just thought I drop ya a line to say I'm praying for ya brother, hope you and the family are doing well there and wanted to say sending you and them the very best wishes my friend. Much love good buddy take good care 😉
With the deeming regulations going into more effect in the future I am trying to aquire & cellar more and more tobacco that I know is a favorite of mine and may be "on the chopping block." Therefore if the company decides it's not worth the cost of the FDA testing and fees and decides not to produce the tobacco any more, I'll have some to smoke if it doesn't make it back to the shelves.
I had just started smoking a pipe around Sept 2017 and the first 2 tins I bought were early morning pipe and nightcap. I had no idea at the time that they were also the 2012 batch... Looking back I'm thinking " wow! What a way to begin a pipe tobacco hobby with such a fine, aged tobacco!"
Nicholas Cox - You’re right, but be aware the next time you purchase one of these tobacco’s it might be a fresh tin, and it will taste different, so try and remember that when you say, there must be something wrong with this tobacco it taste different, let me tell you it’s happened to me several times. 😃😃😃
Thank you so much for this video. I found a tin of My Mixture 965 (which I've never had before) from St. Patrick's Day, 2011 in my cellar. Discovered Dunhill is using Orlek's dating convention since 2008. I'll probably wait another five years before opening that tin and will buy a fresh one, if curious. I'm very grateful you prompted my search from your (as usual) great information. Take care,
There is no telling how many years of age mine are because I never smoke a tobacco that hasn't been cellared for at least 5 years. I buy all my tobacco bulk and put it in quart jars. Then it goes literally in the cellar to have a long rest. Very good video.
Doc Hatfield - you lucky duck... I just started doing that, until recently I would buy a tobacco, and pop it right away and start smoking it, but I have learned, now I purchase tobacco long in advance of needing it, and let it rest before popping it. 👍👍👍
Night cap was my first pipe tobacco and I have veey fond memeories of it, but I haven't tried it again. I think, as I was buying from a small town tobacconist, that it had some age on it. Because I recall wondering why my second tin of a different brand didn't have stained paper. It was a wonderful smoke, I'll need to age some myself
An even more important reason to cellar is that your favorite blends, go out of production. Or your favorite companies go out of business altogether! (I'm talking Dunhill and McClelland at this point of course).
It’s similar to “craft beer”. You need to store it appropriately or it goes bad. The “Julian code” is for company’s that want to hide that their product is “old”. Good company’s put “born on dates”. (I work in the beverage industry and we have sell by dates”. Great video! Same on the seller!
Thank you for your help and advice on this forum, through the information contained in this video I was able to locate the manufacturing date on my dunhill blend of tobacco and it made my experience so much more pleasant and enjoyable knowing it had been aged about 4 years as well..👌
Thanks for taking your time to post all this info. I'm a new subscriber and I've been cruising your videos the last few days. I own several pipes, don't smoke very often, but your videos have given me a new appreciation!
t bob - on my channel we don't say new subscriber, in my opinion it's too impersonal, instead we say I have joined the muttnchop pipe club, because I truly think that's what we all are, members of a large youtube pipe club. So let me say welcome to the club my friend, and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. 👍👍👍
Wonderful video sir. I'm really new to the hobby and I've started my friends at work on it as well. Love your video series always content rich with intelligible presentation. I can't wait to get my tins and samples for the pipe club.
I have discovered that if I buy the tobacco from smaller shop and the blend is not the one that everyone is smoking, I can get from two to four years old tobacco.
Pipe&Tobak - I've notice that as well, but if someone ask why are you buying that blend that no one else likes, a quick answer needs to be ready, so as to not let the secret out. 👍👍👍
A few days ago I had to explain to Dan Tobacco (Germany) personnel why am I interested in the date of production of certain blends that had only batch number on the tin. To the ones that produce the tobaccos! Thanks again for great videos that you make and the kowledge that you share. Stay safe. Janez
My friend and I jarred a bunch of tobacco and then kinda took a break from pipes. We got back into pipe smoking and found our old jars...jarred in 2013. We have a jar of Frog Morton Cellar and I am looking forward to smoking that SLOWLY...
Great video Chris. Cellaring tobacco to age is the most important reason to do it, after availability and the price. It is nice how you bring it in to the video. Regards. Janez
By accident, I went to a pipe store in my area and picked up a tin of london mixture. I noticed the price tag was yellowed a bit, but being a lounge I didnt think too much about it. Then I checked the code on the back, It turned out it was packed in 2011. Sweet.
A few weeks ago, I was lucky and got a tin of MacBaren’s bold Kentucky that had four years of age on it. Looking forward to smoking it when winter comes.
Hi, Chris, I’d just like to say thanks for all your videos and advice. You have taken my pipe smoking to a new level. I love smoking my pipe using the breathe method (took me a while to get there...) to a level where it is just going out: the taste is so enhanced that it is unbelievable. In the UK we can’t get the variety of tobacco you can get, but pipe smoking isn’t about variety, it’s about what it gives you as an experience. Relax. Enjoy. Keep posting videos as your views and advice are always looked forward to and much appreciated.
Mark F - Thank you my friend, my wife and I visited your wonderful country in 2011, for 5 days, we visited the British museum, went to the Cotswolds, Stonehenge, had fish and chips, and watched the changing of the guard, if we ever get the chance to come back, I’ll let you know, mabye we get together and smoke a bowl together. 👍👍👍
I should also say that anytime you visit accommodation is free. As a Tolkien geek like you, and as I live not far from Tintagel, I’m sure a few bowls and a few beers would give us hours of conversation, my friend. Keep posting...
Hey Muttnchop, I just bought a tin of NightCap and EMP and it came in roughly three days ago. Going by your research my tins were produced in 2012, already over four years age on mine as well. I noticed the same thing you did, the stains on the paper under the tobacco, and of course a great aroma and it smoked very deliciously. Apparently I need to place an order again. That's a great jump start on cellaring!
ricky davis - congrats my friend, nothing like aged tobacco with Virginia being one of the Blend components, deepens and smooths the blend to delicious bliss. 👍👍👍
It might be that, since Dunhill exited the market, a lot of old hoarded stocks are entering the market as no fresh product is being made anymore. In Europe we started running out of Dunhill blends, I had to hunt for early morning to get a 50g tin. It may be my last one 😢 I took a lesson out of your video and started stocking up my cellar too. I will have to ration me and my pipe and savour it as long as I can before they make pipe smoking a capital felony (I am sure hard drugs will be legal though, so many damn politicians are addicts).
I found the same thing with a tin of fox provost and I’m finding it drying rather quickly. I found the same stains though could not find anything even a code. Thank you for the info!
Hey, Thanks for the video. I'm thinking about starting to get into the hobby of smoking a pipe and your channel is super helpful. In my personal experience I haven't seen many women smoking pipes, wonder why that is? Maybe I'm just in an isolated area, lol.
Catpiss_Neverclean - no, it’s true, not a lot of ladies smoke a pipe, I think it looks cool when I see one, I guess a lot of women see it as masculine, and don’t think it’s right for them. I have done a group of videos called “Just the Basics” check those out it will get you started. 👍👍👍
raker1980 - ahh my young padewon, you must use the breathe method of the force, and you shall have sweet smokes, otherwise you shall be tempted by the tongue bite dark side of the force. 👍👍😃
great information here. thank you for doing these kind of videos. I am learning so much from your wealth of knowledge that I can pass on to other pipers.
I have four tins of Royal Yacht and two tins Ready Rubbed can't wait to see what they will age like, I've aged Red Rapparee before and it was so sweet.
very gd job Chris that was awesome I've got some that I'm cellering been there for six years I'm not going to touch therm for another year thanks Chris great video ☺☺☺☺👍👍👍👍👍👍 best regards Peter.
Muttnchop vids are so tasty that I just have to pop the seal and watch them fresh, no way could I cellar all that tasty info! Nothing like scoring a few aged tins from your favorite tobacconist. I got lucky and got a few Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture and Royal Yacht that had a few years on them, so tasty. Aged bacco is the best, much like Muttnchop's vids. Sweet smokes amigo 😎
I love cellaring I have a Tin of Wessex traditional blend from 2002 I never opened it until this year and it has sugar crystals from the Virginia in the blend such a sweeter flavor best thing to do is cellar great video my friend
Great video Muttonchop! Keep up the good work! I recently got a new tin of nightcap and had the same thought as you when I smoked it. Night and day as far flavor goes. Turns out the tin was two years old. It has defiantly spurred me on to cellering more tobacco.
I'm looking at that wrapper and I'm wondering: Is that a coffee filter? Is there anything special about what the wrapper is made of and is it important? I'm wondering if I should use something inside my tobacco jar when cellaring it to absorb undesirable components that may build up while aging. Thanks for the great videos. I love to sit here and have a pipe (or cigar) while watching them. It's like sitting on the front porch with a buddy and having a smoke with him.
Just found your channel. Love the videos so far. Keep up the great work! Would love a step by step on how you cellar, what bulk blends you prefer, etc. I'm trying to start getting into that. thank yoU!
Nice clip Chris, been cellaring bulks for years. Mason jars are excelent for that purpose. EMP is good blend just too mild to my taste. The re-release of Standard Mixture Full version is sublime blend. Recomended. Yeah it think that they lightly stove tobacco to create that mellowish taste-talking about EMP. Have a great week and as always cool smokes, mate.
Cherokee trucker - Nicely put, That’s the way I look at it as well. Me in 10 years - “ Have I got a treat for you, a vintage 2019 Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding, aged for 10 years to perfection” if that doesn’t sound delicious I don’t know what does. 👍👍👍
Hi friend!!! Excelent video. I want you to know that recently (about two weeks ago), we opened a 1980 Dunhill Standard Mixture tin (with my fellas of Buenos Aires Pipe Club), and it was incredible. it was like an English Blend but much more sweet. (i didn't try a recent made blend tin to compare but i don't think a fresh one could overcome that one). So, best regards and to your next video!!!!
Fernando Villagran - That's incredible!!! 1980, the sweetness comes from the Virginia, I can emagine how delicious it must have been, you lucky ducks lol. That just goes to show how wonderful a blend can become with time. 👍👍👍
I don't think I have any EMP in my cellar. Who was this, smokingpipes? Great commentary. Cellaring works magic, especially on blends you may not have liked the first time around!
I am wanting to buy a tin of tobacco to cellar until my 50th birthday, which is 6 years from now. I want it to be something that I have never smoked before and will not smoke until that day. I am buying a pipe that I will put away until then also. I smoke mostly Dunhill and Frog Mortons blends. Could you suggest a good tobacco to buy for that?
Awesome video muttnchop. Cigars get aged too. But I don't/can't always age. But with pipe tobacco it's easier than cigars, cheaper... Can get some age on em... Any amount of time is better than straight away. But yeah it's all good... We'll see what tobacco I can get where I live... And where from
Just noticed that you have different color eyes. Or do you? Do you have hetrochromia or is it the camera and lightning that makes them appear different colors? Just curious. Also good info about getting tobacco on sale that turned out to be excess stock and you got aged tobacco at a sale price, so it worked out in your favor, must be good karma or something. I wonder how often that happens and if some tins age better than others due to different shapes, lids, top sheets, etc.? Another good video!
80brax04 - just the lighting, both my eyes are blue. I have heard that round tins seem to keep their integrity better then square or rectangular shaped tins, meaning square and rectangular tins can pop their seals on their own, and if they are in your cellar you could end up with very dry tobacco after 5 years or so. 👍👍👍
Hi muttnchops, hope you are doing well, I have a question, sometimes I buy pouched tobacco, or they just have that particular type that only comes pouched, can you cellar those too as well. Thanks for everything you do for the pipe smoking community and thank you for your service, you are an outstanding person and I highly respect you my friend.
Thank you for this informative video. I like how you take your time to explain everything, which is great for a beginner like myself :) I have two questions for you please. Can you age a tobacco once the tin has been opened, do you keep it in the tin or in a glass jar? Is there an ideal or maximum amount of years you can let it age? Thanks again
Thanks Chris for sharing, one is on the safe side buying tinned tobaccos and not to worry about dryness, yet have possibility to get already aged tobacco at no extra tax, now one thing on this cellaring, my understanding is that only virginia forward blends benefit from cellaring, how bout blends which are composed mostly of burleys?Greets, Paul
Paul The Scandinavian - I think all blends even Aromatic blends and Burley blends benefit from Cellaring, the more time a blend spends Cellaring the longer the component tobaccos have time to combine flavors, which creates a more arch and mellow blend. 👍👍👍
I suspect the tins of EMP, NC, & 965 don't move as fast since they are available in bulk much cheaper. I've got a 12 year old unopened tin of EMP that I got when I first started pipe smoking. I really should pop it open but I can't bring myself to break that seal. I keep thinking, "maybe I should let it age a little longer". I'm probably at the point of diminishing returns though.
Eric George - you're right on both counts, it is cheaper to purchase EMP in bulk so yes the tins probably sit around. And yes, I would pop that tin, it's probably the best it's gonna get. 👍👍👍
I just love how this gentleman talks , his cadence , his rithm is just beautiful

When tobacco dries (out of case), all processes stop. It must retain moisture to "age". What you had was "old" tobacco.
I miss the shop at BGW. Shame they got rid of it.
Dude I hope you come back eventually your videos are truly amazing!! I hope you are well!! This coming Thursday is thanksgiving, I do sincerely hope you are well!!

D35611 I make sure to tin-tape all of my square tins for long term storage. Works for circle tins as well.
My tins usually dry out after a year or two. I would also recommend keeping them in an airtight mason jar.
I cellar all my tobacco's in mason jars. Maybe give that a try.

It’s similar to “craft beer”. You need to store it appropriately or it goes bad. The “Julian code” is for company’s that want to hide that their product is “old”. Good company’s put “born on dates”. (I work in the beverage industry and we have sell by dates”.
Great video! Same on the seller!
Thank you for your help and advice on this forum, through the information contained in this video I was able to locate the manufacturing date on my dunhill blend of tobacco and it made my experience so much more pleasant and enjoyable knowing it had been aged about 4 years as well..👌
Ryan Olivier - Thats great. 👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing tobacco matures in flavour like a good wine if kept in the right conditions. 👍
Marcus Cicero - I'm looking forward to it as well, thanks for watching my friend. 👍👍👍
Reptile Nexus - It should be delicious. 👍👍👍
Great video Chris. I am always blown away at how some of these tobacco warehouses can have tins form years back.
Beginner Pipe Guy - I think it's because they have so many some get lost, or put in a corner and forgotten about. 😏😏😏
Excellent, excellent vid Chris. Congrats. I liked it so much. Thanks a lot my friend.
Challenger Dart - you're welcome my friend. 👍👍👍
Great video Chris. Cellaring tobacco to age is the most important reason to do it, after availability and the price. It is nice how you bring it in to the video. Regards. Janez
Pipe&Tobak - I agree completely. 👍👍👍
Thank you for the information. I saw that add and almost bought some. I will now and cellar it for at least 6 months. Thanks again.
Raymond Gregory - I almost passed on it myself, but I won't hesitate in the future, it was a great buy. 👍👍👍
This happened to me as well. I just received a Nightcap with 5 years of age on it. What a wonderful treat! :)
gre370 - a wonderful treat indeed. 👍👍👍
By accident, I went to a pipe store in my area and picked up a tin of london mixture. I noticed the price tag was yellowed a bit, but being a lounge I didnt think too much about it. Then I checked the code on the back, It turned out it was packed in 2011. Sweet.
Aron Kovacs - 8 years of age, that ought to be a sweet smoke my friend. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop Piper
I’ll put that on my bucket list 😀👍
I should also say that anytime you visit accommodation is free. As a Tolkien geek like you, and as I live not far from Tintagel, I’m sure a few bowls and a few beers would give us hours of conversation, my friend.
Keep posting...
Mark F - Thank you my friend, that is a tremendous offer, one I will take you up on if we get the chance to visit once again. 👍👍👍
Wow....nice find on that 4 year old Dunhill ....just wow
Hey, Thanks for the video. I'm thinking about starting to get into the hobby of smoking a pipe and your channel is super helpful. In my personal experience I haven't seen many women smoking pipes, wonder why that is? Maybe I'm just in an isolated area, lol.
Catpiss_Neverclean - no, it’s true, not a lot of ladies smoke a pipe, I think it looks cool when I see one, I guess a lot of women see it as masculine, and don’t think it’s right for them. I have done a group of videos called “Just the Basics” check those out it will get you started. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop, I am a padewon, and you are a Jedi Knight. Thank you my friend! 😀
raker1980 - ahh my young padewon, you must use the breathe method of the force, and you shall have sweet smokes, otherwise you shall be tempted by the tongue bite dark side of the force. 👍👍😃
Muttnchop Piper Grateful for your advice I am! 👍😂
Another fantastic and informative video sir. Thank you so much for the invaluable information!
great information here. thank you for doing these kind of videos. I am learning so much from your wealth of knowledge that I can pass on to other pipers.
Captain Spaulding - that's good to hear, thanks for watching. 👍👍👍
Dunhill Early morning pipe is currently my favorite tobacco. I love it.
Keith Fjelsted - It is good, one of my favorites as well. 👍👍👍
Sad thing they ceased production. Any good replacement for it?
@@aronkovacs1386
You may be aware already, but Dunhill has returned as Peterson. EMP is available as a blend to purchase again
I have four tins of Royal Yacht and two tins Ready Rubbed can't wait to see what they will age like, I've aged Red Rapparee before and it was so sweet.
Thomas Écuyer - they will be amazing. 👍👍👍
very gd job Chris that was awesome I've got some that I'm cellering been there for six years I'm not going to touch therm for another year thanks Chris great video ☺☺☺☺👍👍👍👍👍👍 best regards Peter.
The Smoove Piper - thanks Pete. 👍👍👍
Thank you for the example! I'll be investing in some Mason jars over the next few weeks after watching this and your other videos.
Upon AstariKnight - thank you my friend, you are too kind. 👍😏👍
Sounds like you hit the jackpot. Thats pretty awsome. I just started to do this so ill definitely be watching your channel.
I bought from the same sale Muttonchop. Having some of the nightcap as I type. It and the EMP are smoking beautifully. Hope to see you soon.
Nightcap kicks my ass
Good video, very informative and interesting! you have so many tobaccos on display, they all look good.
My personal preference is to age all my pipe tobacco in mason jars. It brings out the true flavor of a blend.
Steven Codding - Cool, 👍👍👍
I love cellaring I have a Tin of Wessex traditional blend from 2002 I never opened it until this year and it has sugar crystals from the Virginia in the blend such a sweeter flavor best thing to do is cellar great video my friend
Stogie Pipe smoker - you're welcome, thanks for sharing that, I love cool stories like that. 👍👍👍
+Muttnchop Piper 👍👍
Great video Muttonchop! Keep up the good work!
I recently got a new tin of nightcap and had the same thought as you when I smoked it. Night and day as far flavor goes. Turns out the tin was two years old. It has defiantly spurred me on to cellering more tobacco.
Evans Murphy - yeah, that flavor just gets ramped up so much, delicious. 😃😃😃
Dear Sir, indeed, excellent explanation!
You lucked out my friend. Bob
Bob and Donna Reynolds - yes I did my friend, this kind of thing does not happen often to me. 👍👍👍
Love your videos. Please make more.
I don't even smoke tobacco but I love this
I'm looking at that wrapper and I'm wondering: Is that a coffee filter?
Olle Wahlroos - thank you for the info my friend. 👍👍👍
That is great information. It's like aging a fine wine.
That sounds good right now lol. Love your videos muttonchop. Very informative
Hey fella, great video again! Thanks very much 👍
Mark Wilkins. - your welcome.
You hit the jackpot there.
Great info and awesome vid dude! I will definitely be checking the age of all my new tins!
Drum Sip 'N' Smoke - Thank you my friend. 👍👍👍
I have some Samuel Gawith's Skiff Mixture from 07 and Ferndown Red and Orange from 04. Saving for a special occasion
Michael Driggers - That’s the way to do it my friend. 👍👍👍
The youtuber "posthuman" have a really good video about how pipetobacco age :) and nice video as always!
Had a tin of London Mixture that was 2 yrs old before I opened it. It was SO much better....
I don't think I have any EMP in my cellar. Who was this, smokingpipes? Great commentary. Cellaring works magic, especially on blends you may not have liked the first time around!
mgvsquared - yes, smokingpipes 👍👍👍
amazing video !!!
Hi Chris, thanks for the tip on EMP. I jus received 12 tins from SP, and all of them are from 2012 👍🏻😊
ChristTiger66 - I just got 10 myself, and ditto on the date. 👍👍👍
My daughter was born November 2012. I'd do a lot of things to get my hands on a tin of 2012 EMP.
I just bought 2 dunhill EMP tins from a local shop and they are made in 2016 .
Glen McCoy - yes, buy a tin of Seattle pipe clubs Plumb Pudding. 👍👍👍
Thanks, ordered some this morning!!!
Check back in 6 years and let us all know how you feel and how it smokes!
Don't smoke it in the new pipe ! It won't be broken in and might spoil the experience of the aged leaf.
Love your videos...New piper here...what if you don't have a cellar or basement...is just mason jars good enough?
@@MuttnchopPiper thanks for your help in your video
My tin of Rattray's Black Mallory also had stains on the paper wrapper, love that mixture.
Bas Q. - then you can pretty much bet it's got some age on it. 👍👍👍
Thanks for your reply! I love your videos, they're very informative.
Bas Q. - you're welcome my friend. 👍👍👍
I really enjoy your videos and I have so many questions as a newbie pipe smoker. Is there an easier way for me to contact you?
Nick Reason- Please feel free to ask your questions here. There may be many other new pipe smokers that could benefit from your questions.
A side note my friend, there's a sale going on of dunhill standard mixture on the website pipes and cigars, got three tins.
Thank you for this informative video. I like how you take your time to explain everything, which is great for a beginner like myself :)
I have two questions for you please.
Can you age a tobacco once the tin has been opened, do you keep it in the tin or in a glass jar?
Is there an ideal or maximum amount of years you can let it age?
Thanks again
Well done, as always
weedsnager - thank you. 😃😃😃
Paul The Scandinavian - Rich and Mellow blend. 👍👍👍
Great video
I wish you and your family a happy piping
I suspect the tins of EMP, NC, & 965 don't move as fast since they are available in bulk much cheaper. I've got a 12 year old unopened tin of EMP that I got when I first started pipe smoking. I really should pop it open but I can't bring myself to break that seal. I keep thinking, "maybe I should let it age a little longer". I'm probably at the point of diminishing returns though.
Eric George - you're right on both counts, it is cheaper to purchase EMP in bulk so yes the tins probably sit around. And yes, I would pop that tin, it's probably the best it's gonna get. 👍👍👍
