Jack was born in 1988, Pokemon was released in the U.S. in 1998, Jack was 10, Jack mistook Zubat for Eevee, I can conclude that Jack was a sheltered child.
You know how some kids had superhero bedrooms, Barbie bedrooms, boyband bedrooms, Disney bedrooms, etc.?
Jack once filmed a video in his childhood bedroom, and it was decorated with world maps.

Jan would be proud though he purposefully mispronounces the names it's hysterical people get so mad. I think my favorite is "So Golly-os-so-pod" for Golisopod a dual-type Bug/Water Pokémon introduced in Generation VII. It's actually a pretty sweet mon and I HATE bug types.

Funny thing is, a "Wooper Looper" is an old term for an Axolotl. So he was on the right track, he just wasn't using the right name.

The way Jack attempts to de-construct the Pokemon's inspiration and succeeding at times was greatly entertaining

Maybe he was thinking about how far apart from each other they are genetically. Dugongs are more closely related to elephants than to seals.

Weirdly, Jack is sorta correct with Aqua Duck being a good pun. Golduck's French name is Akwakwak (as in a portmanteau of Aqua and Kwa Kwa, the noise a duck makes in French)

Confusing Eevee with Zubat was Jack's biggest boomer moment
When Pokémon Go first came out someone had named their Ekans as Ekanessence, and with my friends and my cousin there’s now a long running joke where someone will start and then it’s just “CAN’T SNAKE UP! Snake me up inside!” To the tune of Bring Me To Life

As someone in the same boat as Jack, this is one of my favorite videos on this channel. This nonsense names and his reactions to said nonsense names is the hardest I've laughed in awhile

The thought process about Ninetales was close to how it is in german. We go from Vulpix to Vulnona (nona = nine in latin)
As someone who is probably unhealthily obsessed with Pokémon and always has been and always will be (my only tattoo is a Pichu), watching Jack guess these Pokémon mostly incorrectly was both incredibly painful and incredibly hilarious at the same time. I want more of this. :)

14:03 mew is a “bonus” pokémon distributed during promotional events.
red&blue only had 150 (excluding) pokémon, so mew was tacked on to the end.
Yeah, imagine being a kid and trying to figure out who was missing in the 150th spot in your pokedex, it makes sense from a gameplay perspective but it fucks up the lore
there are so many little bits of knowledge i’ve accepted as a pokémon fan that seeing them pointed out by jack is so funny
As a Pokemon fan, there's a certain feeling to seeing people react in confussion to names that to you always seem normal

There's something so funny about seeing him work his way through his logic only to be either completely wrong or second guess himself and throw away the right answer
To be fair, the entire First Generation was singlehandedly translated and named by the same man and he was more creative and out-there when it came to naming Pokémon. He used puns and Wordplay that would never be used again after he left. I think newer generations of Pokémon have names that are way easier for Jack to guess. We'll see, because I hope he continues this series. It was hilarious.
Gen 1 has like the worst names. Ekans, Arbok, Alakazam, Electrode, Psyduck, Dewgong, Muk, Mewtwo, Ninetails. They all suck.

Porygon2 actually makes a lot of sense. He's supposed to be a digital program, so it's like a version number or a direct sequel.
It makes sense if you know the lore. It's less obvious looking at it that it's supposed to be a digital pokémon.

They could have taken the "gon" out since it's decidedly not made of polygons. Like "Poryoid" as a nod to ellipsoids/ovoids
There was Mewtwo, which is a modified clone of mew, and they were going to just leave mew in canon as a dead species like the other fossil Pokemon, but then somebody realized there was enough space for another Pokemon and snuck mew into the game before release
that cant be true. the pokemon index numbers (not the pokedex numbers) correspond to when they were programmed into the game. mew's index number is 21, and mewtwo's is 131.
