- Or: How to be an insane psychopath effectively in Rain World.
This one is a little dense. Don't worry, it used to be worse. This took a surprisingly long time to make actually coherent.
Music used:
Rain World OST - Albino
Rain World OST - Action Scene
As for more of this kind of video, there are only like three more enemies that are worth their own killment videos, so don't expect too many more of these. There will definitely be more Rain World videos in the future, though. Could you tell I usually play as hunter slugcat?

Literally no one makes serious video on scavengers man
"Believe it or not, these are very dangerous. If you don't treat these with respect, they will kill you."
Rain world in a nutshell
I am getting killed by those also to whome i am giving respect😂
@@SoulArbitar simply not enough respect
@@SoulArbitar believe it or not, real life monkeys are also can be aggressive like scavengers so yeah be careful with scav in game too
@@SoulArbitar tip: use pears to make amends, crouch to seem friendly and don't steal if you want them to respect you like you respect them
I find interesting how the devs made Artificer, the slugcat that cannot befriend Scavengers, the most fun to play against them. You can basically go berserk on the explosives and come out winning without a single scratch.
I mean, when a "single scratch" means death it kinda has to be that way.
It's more like they had to go as far as giving you unlimited explosives to have a decent chance against scavengers at most negative reputation
if this was the only footage someone showed me of rain world i would think it was god's gift to gaming. of course i already think it's god's gift to gaming, but you make it look effortlessly cool. nice job
Something tells me this person enjoyed artificer.
It's rather unrelated to the purpose of the video but I just really liked the tone and way you talked about the scavengers in general. Pretty refreshing as whenever people talk about scavengers it's either to talk about how terrible they are or just praise the AI.
I dunno 💀
Their AI deserves all the praise it gets, but yeah, it’s nice to see them be dissected through an objective lens.
scavengers in a nutshell: combative over mobility
Very accurate.
Another Tip for large unavoidable group of scavengers (like, if you have to pass through a scavengers toll and there is no other way): use 1 mushroom.
1 mushroom slows down in-game time and increases players mobility.
You will have a 20 second TIME advantage.
USE it.
this comment really pissed me off
@@redriot2235 why? it's good advice
Scavenger tolls get blinded by hazer ink
Merchant scavs are passive at first
If your reputation is high enough, you can pass tolls without paying
With chieftain, a small group, or the entire toll, may guide you to a shelter and hibernate with you
Not to mention, They can catch the spear mid air.
Very informative and straight to the point. Cant wait to try these out when I play artificer >:)
I bet backflip down hits will be really busted with the explosive jump, you can get out of the scavs reach easily and then just get them with a cool flip.
Watching this video specifically to prepare for my artificer play through.
@@aarepelaa1142 the Explosion coming out of the Artificer also stuns enemies, making Artificer lethal close range, and artificer is immune to Explosion damage, tho not immune to its effects.
Good luck, you'll fucking need it
Very helpful guide for surviving metropolis
Me and my friend have also been playing around scavs in arenas for days now, we both also use the same strats as you do and can now consistently beat 3-5 scavs (with buffed creatures mod) in some maps on arena including modded ones.
- here are some notable tactics that we also do:
Arena Disclaimer: we only spawn scavs and no items, so no spear spam
Using dead bodies as cover.
(excellent for maps with no cover)
(can be moved to get closer or farther from the enemy)
(cannot block grenades, beehives, and boom sticks *stun*)
Vibe check their gear.
(if they have a grenade or beehive, its better to fight them with distance)
(scavs with a lot of spears are harder to fight in longer ranges than in cqc as they parry more than you can)
(Unarmed scavs are dangerous in close quarters, use rocks first when dealing with them)
Always hold a rock for parrying.
- if you are playing with a friend, here are some coop tips:
Being on the same platform can cause a lot of friendly fire.
Always move away from each other so both of you can easily support each others flanks.
Baiting can be done but is not really effective i.e. one of you stand ground while the other flanks around(not good on maps with tight spaces).
You can use your dead partner as a shield with only 1 hand.
Lastly, you can turn your partner into bait with a single beehive :)
Good observations! Vibe checking their gear is very important. I have died more times than I'd like to admit from accidentally grabbing a bomb from a scavenger in close quarters and blowing myself up. The only reason I didn't mention both that and corpses as cover was time restraints -- I can only fit so much into a five minute video.
There will be an addenda video eventually for all the stuff I didn't cover. Have fun killing things!
i just recently got into shaded citadel and i was running from a blue lizard (i missed my spear throw, which was painful because im very close to completing dragon killer) when i came across a scav with an explosive spear, so i figured "oh this lizard gonna be dead as hell" and the scav takes aim with the spear, i crouch down to give it a clear shot, and it SLAUGHTERS ME in cold blood. my body even bounced towards the lizard so it could grab and eat me. i didnt do anything to the scavs either, any time i was near nomad scavs i strolled past them
Thanks to new dlc
And Artificier campaing i may assume that your guide will come more than handy tips
and as a closing tip: If you're playing well, you will have done none of these things
But I'm playing well and i have all of these things done every day i play...
IMHO befriending lizors and getting a good global reputation with them is better
I did got a good reputation with scavs once but ehhh it's boring (i like killing things but vultures are cowards and lizors are easy and i like those little puppies, with scavs you have to have some tactics and cool tricks in your pocket and try not to rage quit every cycle) and annoying (if you get a help squad it's sometimes not really nice in tight spaces and all of that, I'm not a fan)
I know someone likes scavs and all of that but i am not really fond of them and it doesn't mean i am bad at game
Scavengers don't mess around with you if you have negative reputation with them. So unless you think you are ready to take on hordes of very strong enemies, don't piss them off.
And if you are Artificer - prepare for a lot of trouble. They are gonna give it right to ya in abundance
an awesome display of rain world's mechanical depth
2:05 this is true 99% of the time, but they can also throw at like 85 degrees. There is a clip of it somewhere but idk where it is.
Yeah, I couldn't find out the exact angle they can throw at. The first clip was just the most egregious example I could find. I suspect the maximum throwing angle is randomized per scavenger, as many of their characteristics tend to be.
Also, holy shit it's you. I love your videos.
Perhaps scavs have some movement tech of their own?
You’re looking for elite scavs, which can throw spears 70º~
Mostly I main Riv when fighting elite scabs and normal scavs in the arena because somehow I accidentally parry and I somehow dodge the spears usually and it's pretty fun to do so I recommend Riv
you fuckin get it! fighting elite scavengers with rivulet is fun as shit!
@@ForgettableYT Hi man, how are you? I know the video is a little old and all, but I would like to know if you could make a video explaining more or less some tricks to parry or dodge, you know? This would help me a little besides just practicing
I once beat 15 scavs at once in arena with no pre placed items. It took an hour lol, so not recommend it. In a recent monk run, I was surprised at how easy scav combat is in game. You have so many resources and tricks at your disposal. I ended up sort of genociding scavengers in garbage wastes, they won’t spawn anymore except 1-2 at the stronghold toll every 2-3 cycles
You can make then spawn less by killing a bunch? I’m on my first play through and the scavs at the garbage wastes toll are mad at me:(
Me before arti: aww scavs so cute
me after arti: THAT MOTHERFUCKER HIT ME FROM 16 STATES AWAY I NEED TO DESTORY HIS ENTIRE BLOODLINE
a tip that wasn't on the video
if you do this NEVER enter shaded
This is valuable information sir, I thank you (artificer sweep)
On the morality: they'll respawn
Great content! Very well paced, edited, and clean. If you could somehow make more content as good as this for rain world, it would make people very happy!
I would like to point out that you can aim your spear throws in more than a straight line. Not quite as easily as one would hope, but a quick and generally applicable way is jumping. It just requires momentum. This also goes for making the shot go further; a slide-pounce into a throw sends spears further than just a throw alone. If you time it right, you can aim spear throws.
idk if someone said that, but if you're on an entirely flat ground and crouch, scavengers will not be able to attack you, unless some very very lucky spear from afar. you can slowly crawl though an entire tribe of hostile scavengers that way and retreat to safety. but well yeah there are not much perfectly flat areas in the game. it did save my ass as Spearmaster when i was walking through the roof of 5P's can
The tribal humans of the rain world, they even have the throwing arm

@prebel3 I have 50 hours in just artificer now
@prebel3 agreed
This is top quality!
Could you make one on Lizards? I get that they're pretty easy to kill but I don't really have a full grasp
It will happen eventually.
It may also be a good idea to take out any scavs with larger horns and smaller eyes first, as they are quicker and react faster
Those with larger eyes and small horns are slower and less competent when it comes to combat, so cleaning out them last makes it easier, or you could get rid of them first
let me guess, Your favorite downpour character is artificer? Great tutorial tho!
The spear hits are in time with the music.
Indeed!
me with omnithrow and ambiscug: time to commit 70 acts of genocide
This is definitley one of teh more controvercial ones
Thanks, my artificer needed this
I don't care how many times people say scavs are good and whatnot, they declarated war to me since I started playing this game and I shall not be nice to them. Thanks for this video
How the hell did they declare war to you? Cause you ran towards them with your spear in hand and they had good reason to stab you in fear?
So true for me too
The first scav I've met was the aggressive one and later i met him fucking a lot (i think we are now even at how many times we've killed eachother)
I literally dropped down, no spear, waited... And he fucking threw a rock at me and after i tried to run he literally speared me in my back
I will NEVER forgive him, it was literally my best run (i play on phone and it's so hard to get a pretty neat run)
And they always hurt my feelings so why would i ever be nice to them?
the first scavs i met were mostly docile, they threw a warning shot or two but if you crouch and hand over your spear they'll calm down
Very good video but you missed an important detail: Not all scavs are created equal. Scavs have a whole bunch of random stats(not including the equipment which already makes a world of difference) but aggression, bravery, dominance etc. These determine how likely they are to rush you down or run away at the sight of you. There is no way to check for this or manipulate this within game as far as I know.
But there is another important detail: Elite scavs. Elite scavengers have better gear (Explosive spears, electric spears or even singulo bombs apparently.) and they are ALL aggressive. They can also throw things at greater angles so being in sight of one of them when you aren't friendly to scavs is extremely dangerous. Even when you are friendly to scavs note that, due to their aggression levels being higher than the average scav, they can still choose to fuck you up. Scavs are notorious for being backstabbing little cunts. Elite Scavs also have double the HP of a normal scav, so you gotta shoot them three times at least to guarantee a kill.
You can recognize an Elite by their Vulture Masks or just really expensive equipment. They are also better at parkour. The ideal way to deal with scavs is to use ambush tactics since their perception isn't as strong as some of the other creatures. This also helps you avoid being a target, just make sure you got a proper plan because they will almost always outnumber you.
TLDR: shoot first
Yep!
Welp I never thought someone actually fight them they are always my allies....untle one time I saw a large group going through a tunnel and I said "welp they know this place better than me" just to find them all escape and leave me against two vultures and 3 lizards
Thanks I need the tips for Arti 🤝
Uhh i just- rush em and steal their shit and spam throw and grab
My body is weak, my head is numb, my eyes are red as fuck.
I MUST COMPLETE ARTIFICER

You were 100% right.
Very good video
Like the subtitle-ing
arti boutta get a whole lot easier
Does slide-spearing insta kill scavenger since it technically does 1.5 amount of damage or does it shorten the bleeding time?
Edit:i am trying to beat rainworld as survivor while killing scavs
a bit late reply but yes it instantly kills them even if you hit the body, doesn't work with elite scavs unless you hit their head without the mask
very nice i'll remember this if I ever get it
So you are saying someone can be as stupid as a scavenger that misses every spear they have? Btw when i just barely got out of shaded into industrial i found nomad scavs and gave them spears then died to a green lizard until i eventually got through and befroe i got through this one scav i thought was trying to hit an overseer but he was just horrible at aiming

Scavengers are honestly bullshit. I just got the game, I’ll be giving them spears helping them kill an enemy, the next second you BARELY nudge them and they fucking kill you with a spear. How is this fun? I just waste a half hour of my life running WAY too far from the nearest checkpoint and that happens?
It's much safer to avoid them. If you want to make friends I'd suggest dropping something and then leaving. Try to stay on a different vertical level to them so you can't get stabbed.
They will perceive you as more threatening if you hold a weapon, run towards them or stand up near them, so crawling around is the best bet if you need to pass them directly. Also if you're holding a pearl and you aren't friends they'll probably still kill you for it if they can.
Lastly, Scavs have a lot of body language that indicates their mood. Spears raised to throw is the main one to look for, along with the come through motion and spear vertical to show if they'll mess you up if you try to go through the toll. They also like to point at stuff they don't like so if they point at you I'd just stay away on principle.
