They can. We still can. The thing people of today need to understand is that marriage isn't a blissful fairytale. You actually have to WORK at it. In addition to I agree with Jeri. You have to be friends with the person first aka actually get to know them. Today's generation wants marriage in less than 6 months into the so called relationship....like what? You hardly know the person. She also said you have to actually like the person and understand their faults for what they are. It's a team effort versus marrying, divorcing half a year later only because you "lost yourself" or "I lost who I was and had to find me" all that stuff is completely selfish for example.

Such a beautiful love story. I grew up in AL where racism was accepted as the norm. I wasn’t allowed to have black friends or to mix in any way. As an adult my most lasting and meaningful friendships have been with two black co workers, Patrick and Ellie, who I met in 1975. Even though I moved away in 1978, we stayed friends all these years. We were the three amigos and got together at least once a year until covid. Unfortunately we lost Patrick last year to kidney failure but Ellie remain close and text almost everyday. When we release prejudice and just feel the love, it’s amazing what opens up.
