24 Hour Paint Job on the SRC Nova, Colorshift Supra & Wetsanding the Datsun

- Lots done and even more to do! Billy asked if we could throw on a quick satin black paint job on the nova to get it looking presentable for the season. We have developed a friendship with the family, and enjoy working with them on their projects. So we scheduled a weekend that Jesse, Nikole and Paul could all focus on it 100% with no distractions. We didn’t expect to turn it over start to finish in 24 hours, but by controlling our OCD and working with the understanding that everything we’re doing WILL be stripped bare and redone next season; we were able to move through the process without cutting excessive corners.
Now back onto the rest of the projects we’ve been working on, and a few behind the scenes that we’re looking forward to showing you guys 🙂

hey guys , old collision tech here , there is nothing WRONG with painting a race car like that . the work yall do is nothing short of excellent !!! ITS VERY HARD TO MAKE A LIVING AT THIS TYPE OF BODY AND PAINT WORK !!!! i switched to late model collision work 25 or so years ago, people have no idea what it take to do this, great vid , showing my age LOL

Was watching the nova run the other day and thought dang wish Billy would get that painted.
I remember way back when Billy first got the Nova he mentioned maybe painting it gold with a black vinyl top like he had on an R/C car or he saw on an R/C car.
I'd love to see him do that combo , I think it would look so different & really stand out amongst all the black Nova's you see so often... you don't really see vinyl tops on the older cars ,anymore.
I think once Billy saw Jeff's Dart with that satin/shiny stripe combo his mind was made up lol.
Can't wait to see it all finished up.

Worked in body shop for 5 years. 99.9% of the people have no clue how hard it is to do what HOP just did! Not to mention black shows all body errors/waves/dents/pits !! A+ job HOP people! WOW!
Yes exactly people ask how much to paint my car u tell em 10k (for example) and its well I can take it to my baby momma cousin sister brother in law he said he do it for 900 and I say well take it down there let him f ur stuff up

Wet sanding is definitely a job best performed by a woman, there is no way I could ever have the patience for it! Absolutely outstanding job by all of you!
Exactly, I wet sand with a DA sander, good thing I have old trucks and not show cars, I always say if it looks good as used cars at the dealership then I did a good job, I see way worse at car shows
The nova went from race track car to a going to town car , amazing. Been in the car industry 34 years and I have done and seen it all, and I'm impressed

Billy’s Nova looks awesome for a quickie. So they went with purple?…….I’m sure y’all will knock it out of the park when finished and will be mesmerizing. Watching Nikki sand and buff explains why costs are so expensive,I’m sure she had way over 8 hours in making it shiny. Great job guys and gal.

That's the way it should be when you own a shop you pay yourself when the time is right... Obviously her bills are paid and what not... But I bet she invests back into her business more than she saves
You create an atmosphere and experience that always leaves me wanting more. I wish you would do three day workshops every six months and charge money to teach people the basics like block sanding and trim removal, tricks, paint to finish with no bodywork involved. Charge money to teach, YT the event, and get schmucks like me to sand for 8 hours with your supervision. Labor that pays you is something to think about at least. ~All the best the world has to offer and more! ps. this channel is about to explode and I'm excited to have been here for it.

Good gravy! That takes crazy patience! I grew up in a body shop. Back in the '60s/'70s my dad owned one of the few body shops in Southern Minnesota that repaired and painted Corvettes. So Corvettes were rolling through my dad's shop all the time. I learned how to prep and paint when I was 12.

I use my hand and 1500 to wet sand, that way I can feel the texture leaving the surface. Done it this way for over 10yrs now. You guys do excellent work!!!!!
Killer job is lots of shops that say but you's can do! Even the 24 flip turned out better than many that would have spent a week.
A few drops of dishwashing liquid in the bucket keeps the debris from sticking to the paper

I started painting school buses with Centari single stage decades ago. The stuff was super durable. I painted my 85 Mustang with Dove Gray single stage and it turned out great. Perfect for a race car.

You guys do amazing work, and I know because I am an old body and paint guy. It is great to see young folks who are interested in doing this kind of work and enjoying it. Have you ever tried using aluminum foil for masking all the wiring harnesses and other odd shaped things under the hood? It’s much faster than tape and easier to remove. Keep up with the work, you guys are killing it!

I was back and forth but I think I prefer the chrome! I’d of probably done the rear in a fine silver to try to match the chrome look on the front a bit.
