You can also remove the spring loaded screw on the throttle governor (near where I have the wire). This also gives you the ability to somewhat bypass the governor, but you really have to twist the throttle grip a lot. The wire mod makes the range of movement much less, and more sensitive.
Mine is the 2020 2nd generation model. Full disc brakes. Paid $889.00 free ship & no tax. The frame is Machine MiG welded and is a beautiful piece of work. Mine runs great, rides great and I thoroughly enjoy my leisurely rides. I tweak it/once over weekly. Plan to remove Governor, smaller rear sprocket and some ThickSlick tires and blinkers/headlamp.
Flaming Lemon Bloody Yellow. That'll get ya noticed, mate, along with the people who went for the Exploding Fluorescent Chartreuse paint scheme. hahahahahaha
I removed the governor from the inside to keep all of the external linkages. I up jetted the carb 2 sizes. I also removed the head and ported polished and milled the head. Do not mill more than.0004. Clearance is tight.
I have the bike in Black. I had to take the tires loose and install baby powder in the wheels. Also make sure to turn the wheel and put it on its side to evenly distribute the baby powder and then are up sideways the wheel that is. Since doing this years ago my tubes and tires last for years. Before I knew of this I was having all kinds of tube and tire problems.
I rolled my throttle cable up in a little round circle put it in a go Joe hand cleaner plastic bottle soaked in new motor oil for days. WOW REALLY MADE THROTTLE SO EASY TO TURN AND LOOSEN THROTTLE LINKAGE NUT AND OIL TOO.
I did the governor pass upgrade I hit 32 mph on it really good smooth bike I had a 50cc engine on a vshape frame this is way better upgrade is the bike street legal and does it require using helmet?
Great video, I'm planning on picking one of these up. What resources have you found on the engine? I would be interested in removing the internal governor as well. Also, if the engine goes would you replace it with the same one? If so where would you source one?
There's some videos on RUclips on how to remove the internal governor. The engines are pretty cheap, I beleive even harbor and freight carries a similar one. You could easily get the identical engine or something even bigger
There's a 3 horsepower Lifan 80 cc that comes on the fat motobike. Lifan has a 3 horsepower the same physical size but it's a 100 CC. I guess it may have more torque. Lifan didn't seem to know when I called them. But my experience with car engines even with the same horsepower the bigger the engine the more torque in most cases. And the bigger the engine the more fuel it burns.
Are you sure you aren't confusing the choke with the carb fuel switch? The switch on the side that says ON/OFF is the carb fuel line, the black lever at the top of the carb is the choke. It's easy to mix them up. I did too.
@@909cobra mine is the same.. Runs all day and good with the flap towards on switch it to off and it won't even start going and runs like ass I haven't figured it out either
They're all like that. I think in the factory in China somewhere they had a bunch of old stickers laying around from a different motor, and decided it was cheaper to use them rather than reprint new ones. Either that or on means the motor is on and not the choke is on.
You might want to take the air filter cover off and verify if the choke is on or off. Those choke stickers are cheesy I moved mine on top of the air cleaner housing.
I'm a little confused, so by doing this you are getting the full power potential of the engine by bypassing the governor (which limits the throttle?). But by doing this are you idling at much higher rpms? Looking to get one of these and I would like to get the most power out of it as possible, what's you're top speed and cruising speed? Thanks
The idle remains the same, this just bypasses the whole external governor, so you get direct throttle control without the spring allowing the throttle to back out from the internal governor. Some people remove the internal governor, (have to open crankcase) and that gives you even more power. I might do that in the future but for now, 30mph is plenty fast
Top speed I've hit is about 30mph, but it's still being broken in so I don't go wide open throttle for too long. I cruise at about 20. It has a nice sound to it at cruising speed
Or put a 98cc coleman motor on it ,raise it an inch, and you'll have better torque, more power!, and not have to worry bout bike ,splitting in half, they advise not putting anything bigger than a 160 cc motor on these frames(aluminum) just giving ya heads up! Stay safe!
Hay do you thank a Honda GL 120cc fit in its place have anyone did all the mods on this engine don't they sell a cam and lighter flywheel carb and exhaust kit for it
Don't know but I put like 5 mods in my wifes crf 100, now it's a crf 120. Much more lively but gets less mileage but I brought some back with a small rear sprocket. It was getting 120 miles on 1.4 gallons before all the mods.
Na bro, play with gearing and the throttle mine does High thirties on flat ground. Low forties downhill no bs using GPS as a speedometer. My wife followed me home one day because it got dark I was on the bike she was in the car. She was like holly Sh#@ you were doing almost 40 mph all the way home. 👍👍
yeah, where these motors lack in HP and RPM range, they make up in torque. A smaller gear on the rear wheel will get it moving right. They're geared conservatively from the factory for obvious reasons.
It is worth it because of the simplicity of design. Just be aware that it is mass production and there are various loose bolts and things. Lube the clutch right away. I barely rode mine 2 miles and it was was squawking.
I pedal alot with engine off to get a work out. I always pedal with engine on and riding pretty slow. Riding slower in any gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage. I get about 140 - 170 miles to the gallon roughly! Gas tank is less than a gallon it's .70 of a gallon. The Phatmoto the best fuel mileage than anything I ever owned beside a non motor pedal bicycle, running or walking!!!
So far i just lubed the chain after fully breaking the motor in and a few shakedown runs. Lube the clutch or it will bite you. A little oil behind the sprocket every ride. 2 drops should suffice.
Short answer yes. But eventually you work out most of the Kinks. At first you're fixing it more than you're riding it. But eventually everything starts gel correctly. The biggest thing from me was getting the clutch to work correctly and getting all the tension and alignment right. The chains will start to stretch a little bit causing headaches.
I would be curious to see if removing the governor gear really make it any faster then just bypassing it! I think putting a bigger carburetor would do more, but but I admit I don't know. All I know is I ride mine pretty much open throttle all the time. I can't kill it. Granted not the best sounding motor but it is pretty tough.
The governor is there for legal reasons these can only go so fast before they loose their motorized bicycle classification and then they become classified as mopeds or scooters at least that's my states classification law not sure about yours. These engines are the same as entry level scooters use and can get speeds up to 40 mph but I wouldn't try it on this as it could be dangerous. Long story short the engine will not crap out on you but the chain is a concern other than that your good.
Just took my bike out for the first time......no power no acceleration, has trouble even disengaging the clutch because the engine won't accelerate..acting likes it starving for gas, but gas is getting through to the carb.
