    Everybody complains about that front break. Mine works great though always has. I see you have one of those little air filter coming off the tube that is coming out of the head, on your Lafan,I tried that too, it looked cool but it was robbing me of performance big time on the lower ends. So I took it off and put it back into the air box the way it was. First time I started it up it made a weird popping noise and stalled. Then I started again and it ran fine. Does that thing work well on your engine? It definitely didn't help mine at least not with the stock carb.

      @@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles I've got the same year model a fat Moto a 2019 as you. I'm not sure if I sent you a message on this before. I'm going with a big back rear sprocket for take off and out of the hole only. What rear sprocket would you go with not so much it pops a wheelie when I hit the gas but for all off the line and out of the hole? I'm thinking maybe 65 to 80 rear tooth sproket but I'm not sure of rear sprocket tooth count. I only run about 4 min. mph -12 miles per hour max mph. I'm thinking a 72 rear tooth sprocket but I hope my motor is not tacking too high at 12 mph. My phat moto is all stock except for the governor bypassed and a Max torque I think it was the 9 tooth centrifugal clutch for more bottom end power. I went with the max torque clutch it was one tooth less than the stock Chinese model that come with the fat moto. After watching your video of the failure of the Hilliard clutch shearing off the keyway that was enough for me to take your advice and go with the Mac store and it's worked out excellent. I guess if that big rear sprocket has too much power I could hook the governor back on to keep the bike from spinning or the front end from coming up possibly. Because with the bypassed the throttle is pretty touchy.

    Love your channel Beau , I recently got the base model rover , came with I totally twisted front fork and lots of deep gouges on the frame all conveniently covered up with some white foam tape . I could only describe the response from the guys at Gas bike as a comedy , they sent me out a new straight front fork and a couple of bottles touch up paint. Anyway I wanted to ask you if you ever considered fitting a Honda gx 100 motor , they look pretty neat and should be very reliable. I am starting a small business in the wilds of Cuba and was considering using the phatmotos as transportation for the visitors to the beach. How long do you think the standard bearings will last and what would you swap out first, in my area of Cuba the roads are almost non existent. Keep up the great videos and thanks so much for not adding any annoying music. 👍

      Hi John, thanks for watching. Yes the Phatmoto customer reps. have a reputation for acting funny, and filling in at the local comedy clubs. Yes the Honda gx 100 is a very good choice , as it has plenty of torque and is a great choice for a CVT conversion. As far as swapping out parts the first things would be chains to a quality race chain that will last and not stretch and wear out the sprockets, also upgrade the brakes to stop them better. Don't bypass the governors, and keep the speed limiter screws adjusted to 20 mph max. Then just the normal maintenance on the bike. Like thread locker on the sprocket bolts and greasing the wheel bearings and adjustments. I try to keep the videos straight to the point, no frills and just tell what needs to be told. Thanks again for watching.

      @@zedee2000 A little more on the rear wheel, it is basically a bicycle rear hub, not of a particular good quality. The axle is very brittle, cheap ball bearings and when put together at the factory they use a tiny amount of grease. So you can see how a more powerful engine (hp and torque ) can cause catastrophic wheel failure. When used with a low hp 2 stroke or a lower hp, say 3 hp 4 stroke you usually can get by. But put a Predator 212 cc or even a small motorcycle engine like the 110 or 125 could result in problems.

      @@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles I agree I just putt around but even the quicker acceleration will probably break the hub like a sandwich style adapter on the rear hub on the 2-stroke kits. Those two stroke engine kits seem like a failure that will happen.

    What out come are you expecting changing to predator just wondering myself bc I considered doing a 212 swap cant get any answers on improvements post swap from users I've seen do it. Also mounting plates were an issue. Where did you find this mounting plate?
    Thanks !

    • @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
      @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles  4 года назад +1

      Why I'm switching to a P79cc over the Lifan 80cc. Both engines have the same horse power 3hp, but the torque from the Predator is much more, plus it comes in at a lower rpm, so it gives you better launch or take off. Also the Lifan has limited performance parts available. The Predator has numerous available, such as milled, ported heads for higher compression ratio, stiffer valve springs so you can get more rpm's with governor deleted. there are hotter cams, forged pistons, billet connecting rods, for durability when engine is running at higher rpm's. Also numerous exhaust headers and pipes, along with many high performance carbs. and numerous jets for better overall performance. Many free flow air filters etc. But even stock the P79cc will respond better with different gearing, Stock P79 parts are a plenty, valves,pistons, rings,push rods,con. rods, heads etc.
      The P79cc swap is easier because it fits the space easier, the P212 is a bigger engine with twice the horse power 6.5hp, to make the 212 fit you will have to notch the front/bottom of the block so it clears the front frame rail. It will fit, you just have to do modifications.
      The 2 engine plates I used are available from gopowersports.com for $79.95 plus tax and shipping. Mine cost $86 to my door in California. You need both the wedge adapter and the mounting plate, you also have to drill enlongated holes (4) in the bottom wedge adapter to shift the engine 3/4 of a inch to the right. The mounting plates are for the P79 only. When you use them, it allows the swap to take place without drilling any holes or modding the stock Phatmoto plate or frame, so you can always go right back to stock.
      You can make your own mounts with pieces of angle or u shaped or box iron or aluminum. You will have to drill holes maybe in the stock engine plate.
      I know this is a long answer, but thats how I am, if you ask me I'll tell every thing I know about it to help. My opinion the 212 is better suited in another frame that allows clearance or mount it vertically on the seat post, (vertical mounting systems range from $100 to $250) if you can find them. Because of the builtin jack shaft on the Phatmoto you can't mount vertically so your only option is to squeeze in in horizontally. The P212 engine can be made to put out 22 to 25 hp if you choose, that's the big draw for people is the power you can get from it. Okay, I hope I answered your questions, good luck!

      I really don't have a fix for the caliper other than upgrading caliper to a better unit. The stock calipers are probably the cheapest mechanical units. My entry level electric bike from China was only $499 and it came with much better calipers than the Phatmoto's. In an attempt to keep the cost of bike down and profits up, the cheapest parts were used. For big improvements in braking I always suggest going with a line or cable pull hydraulic caliper front and rear, also upgrade front rotor to a 203 mm one. 70% of braking is done with the front wheel, the 203 mm rotor really makes a difference. The line pull hydraulic calipers can be bought in a pair for as low as $40. Zoom makes a good quality unit for a reasonable price.

      @@beaubrummelmotorizedbicyclesyou got a good price out of your fat Moto bike. The aerial X bike looks like a pretty good deal at about $1,600 the lesser wattage one more for me. I've looked at the lesser wattage Sur Ron $4,200 with bicycle pedals as an add-on. I'm not sure how much bicycle pedaling you can do because the bicycle add-on pedals do not catch the gear the best on the Sur Ron. I think the pedals are just there to be legal in most states. But the bike I would really like to buy is the 125cc 4-stroke engine Motoped with bicycle pedals nobody makes it anymore. Put 49cc stickers on it and go. They made the motoped dirt bike bicycles with 49cc through 190cc engines. For now I'm going to try that big rear sprocket on my fat Moto hopefully the front end won't stand up or spin the rear tire too easy. Sprocket specialist out of Utah can make pretty much any sprocket out of CNC aircraft aluminum $95.00 for the fat Moto rear sprocket they just need a few measurements.

      Hi Brad, one very good option for the brakes on the Phatmoto Rover are what are known as line pull hydraulic calipers. They are easy to install because by design you use your existing brake cables. The calipers are a self contained hydraulic brake. They are made by Zoom or X - Tech and are available on Ebay or Amazon. Or buy new mechanical calipers of various quality, it all depends on what you can afford. A major problem with the rear Phatmoto disc brake is the combo sprocket/rotor on the rear, it is easy for chain oil to get on rotor, once that happens the pads are basically useless, so keeping the rotor clean with alcohol and adjusting in the pad as it wears helps. Just search with "line pull hydraulic disc brakes" in the search slot you'll see them. I hope this helps, or ask more questions, I be happy to reply with what I know. Thanks for the sub, good luck.
