I think the missteps with New generation leading to 3rd Strike being so great is exactly what is happening again, with the mistakes with SFV leading to SF6.
Loved his old school brazilian national team shirt
So 00s.
Brazil reference, nice.
It’s the 1997 kit. The first ever Nike uniform ever made for the Brazilian team.
VAI BRASILIAM!

Crazy to think Sean was supposed to be the next Ken or Ryu... I still want Sean for Street Fighter 6
Praying Luke gets the Alex/Sean treatment in sf7 🙏
Don’t like how they dumbed Sean down. He was strong in second impact but u know how they do darker tone characters.
Sean wasn't added until after Ryu & Ken.
Still waiting for Sean after 7 years at this point...
@@blackout1524 who told u that lie?
12:54 As a kid, I remember the games press and all of my friends absolutely trashing anything that was still sprite-based during that time. As a fan of hand-drawn art, I felt like they were all taking crazy pills. Playing games with beautiful illustrations next to a chunk of ugly cubes did not seem like an upgrade of any sort. I’m really glad that history has born that out now, because many of those early 3D games aged like milk.
3D was the brand new thing in the late 90s (yes I know it was around earlier, I'm talking consoles) and even though it looks like crap today it was mind blowing at the time. Sprite based games at the time were already considered "old" at the time since they weren't quite good enough to look like anime/2d animation like it did during the PS2 era with games like Guilty Gear and Odin Sphere. It just looked like a gradual improvement over the 16 bit era while playing games in 3D was a huge change.
In hindsight 2D sprites in the late 90s look brilliant but when you are comparing that to a completely new way to see and play games that will never be that drastic again (motion controls and VR don't come close) it's hard to stand out.
Hand drawn sprites will never grow old
Similarly, I took a lot of flak from my “friends” for playing Castlevania Symphony of the night. They really looked down on me for playing such a “baby-game”, while they were jacking off to some 3D Bimbos triangular boobs. I love the PSX, but man, early 3D was and is tough man. Especially when there still were beautiful sprite games.
People will say its a matter of taste but I agree with you. Before I even played SF2 I was saying MK 1&2 had better graphics. Then once I actually played SF2 The New Challengers on Genesis even, I just fell in love with the art style. Then after that the 3d fighters started to come out and I just didn't get it. They played clunky imo, until Tekken 3. They didn't look good to me until Soul Calibur on DC. From the moment I saw SF at an arcade in the mall I was in love again. There's no such thing as a "wrong" opinion but I gotta say, there's a reason that SF3 is still played and revered today while there's hardly any scene for early 3D fighters. Even if by accident, Capcom made something timeless.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Dood, I love when you dig out old FGC stories. Who cares if the game is like 25 years old, this shit is *history* !!
It's important to analyze the past to understand the present, and therefore prepare for the future
It's pretty crazy that Ryu wasn't gonna be in it originally and I kinda agree that it doesn't feel the same without him but I like the team's vision!🗣️
But what if he did!? I grew up with the OG SF and Ryu has been in this industry for 35 years now, don't know if Capcom is willing to go another 35 years with the same shoto. And much like the Undertaker who's to say they won't retired him,Ken and others!?
Kinda like the original MK3 without Scorpion. It didn't feel the same.
@@akilcharles3473 That's the best part. We'll never know what could have been, only what will be. All we can do is look forward and see where this path leads. As I've said before, I know the answer lies ahead.
@@BlazeReborn2 Yep definitely. I remember playing it at the arcades and was like where's Scorpion!? Why is Sub-Zero maskless!? What the heck.
@@BlazeReborn2 MK is trash without Scorpion. He is literally the only thing I stand for MK.
Sean got done dirty…I want him back in 6 as a badass shoto!
I've never been like a "street fighter fan" but man, Third Strike is easily one of the top 5 fighting games of all time, it is a masterpiece.
When they say that Street Fighter II and Zero/Alpha were very "digital" games they meant to say that they're very binary, on-and-off, i.e. not "loose".
Capcom is infamous for replacing their main characters; Nero in DMC4, Mega Man in MMZ, etc.
This makes me feel sorry for Cody from Final Fight.
The only times replaced protagonists worked in a Capcom games were in Resident Evil and Cyberbots.
Yasuhiro Seto was main planner on NG and 2I. Neo_G was main planner on 3rd Strike, and directed Alpha 3 MAX, TvC Ultimate All-Stars (not the original, but UAS specifically) and was battle director on MvC3. MvC3 was his last major contribution before leaving Capcom in 2016 (he did manual design for a bunch of games in-between then).
Before and in-between the versions of 3 he was planner on Alpha 2, V Savior 2 and Hunter 2 and DS3. After SF3, he was a planner on MvC2, CvS1-2, JJBA Golden Wind, DMC2, Capcom Fighting Jam, and DMC4. He joined the MvC3 team after DMC4.
Man i honestly loved SF3 New Generation. I played it ALL the time at the arcade back in '97. I loved the music, the graphics, the gameplay, all of it. I thought the game was great. I will admit tho that it wasn't played a lot in general by other people, i would usually be on the cabinet by myself just playing against the computer. Most other people would just be playing Alpha 2, the VS series, or something like Tekken 3.
I honestly think the only "problem" with New Gen was that it was a truly new SF game that was completely unfamiliar and alien to players: it had an almost entirely brand new cast and people generally didn't like parrying either, they thought it didn't make sense and was weird. People disliked the entire SF3 series, not just New Gen and Second Impact, but Third Strike as well. Honestly it wasn't until Evo moment 37 that people opened their eyes to the series and see how good it was. That's when it seemed like most people jumped on the Third Strike bandwagon. 3S is a great game, but the first two games are also very good in my opinion, and honestly Second Impact is my favorite of the three.
It's so funny seeing this dev with a Brazil footbal jersey.
Those Brazilian teams were legendary. They were really well liked around the world because of the amount of charismatic talents. A lot of players where you can say "yeah that's my favorite player."
street fighter with no ryu is exactly how it feels when you see luke on the sfvi cover. Like "Wtf whos that, wheres ryu, chun li and guile?"
In the roster? I mean it's not like Ryu was the first character revealed for 6 or anything
@@RedHeracross he means in a marketing sense. An average person who has some passing info that street fighter exists is going to be taken aback by the fact of Luke on the cover. SF4 and 5 at least had the right idea to advertise Ryu since he is by and large what SF is.
I remember seeing 1 SF3 cab and as Max said - no one was playing it. I remember being confused like...how did I not know this existed and who are these characters??
I felt the same way and saw my dad playing it back when he used to play games alot and after he finished playing the game he didn't liked it due to how different it was.
Same here, I remember this game made me feel a sort of disconnect from Street fighter. Like I had missed something.
It’s crazy how time flies! I fully got into SF in 01 with the double impact disk with both New Gen and 2nd Impact on it, during the blank period with no SF games. It’s always so interesting to listen to the lore because back when I was 11 I would have loved to hear these conversations back when I was getting into SF3.
I absolutely love this commentary by Max. It was expertly done and delivered.
I remember kof 99 suffering the same problem, with kyo and iori out of the main cast, needing to finish the game and then use a code in character selection.
Yeah lol it was supposed to be K' leading KOF
I find funny while Capcom struggled with SF and 2D fighting games... SNK was releasing their best KOF games! With the same sprites of KOF 96... and that went on until KOF XII!
In my hometown (Southern China), 3D fighting games weren't a thing around 97. The fighting game scene was really dominated by KOF, especially 97, with SF Alpha series and SamShow trailing behind.
So in Southern China, it's all the fighting games of NEO•GEO MVS and Capcom Play System I, II, & III in your arcades?
@@KenMasters. Yeah, pretty much. It was predominantly SNK and Capcom for fighting games.
In my part of Aus we had very few arcade cabinets and when it came to fighting games we pretty much only got SNK/Neo Geo cabinet's. I don't remember seeing a single SF/Capcom cabinet but remember seeing Neo Geo everywhere there was arcade cabinets.
mmmmmmmmmmmmm
I applaud Capcom to take the risk considering Ryu is the icon of SF and also fighting games.
It takes balls of steel to let yourself go way over budget on a software feature that is not technically difficult but you know has to be implemented the right way (the temptation is to save your budget for the really technically tough stuff). When you have foresight about where to do that it pays off and your customers really appreciate it. It's great to hear the story about the parry systems in SFIII because I think it's a really good illustration of that
...and the Parry system has existed in some form in every game since this interview was conducted. When the series initially returned in 4, the Focus attack and its red variant would be a more accessible version of this idea while Ryu and (fittingly) Gill would receive it in 5. It returns as a universal mechanic in 6, which releases in 2023, two decades afterwards.
I remember stumbling upon SFIII in my old arcade in Tampa. It was in the back and no one was ever playing it. Tekken 3 and Marvel 2 couldn’t be dethroned.
This is all new information to me. Makes me want to learn how to play the game more
Imagine trying to replace Mario, Link, Samus, or even Sonic as the main character of their respective franchises. It just wouldn't work. Ryu, being just as iconic as the previously mentioned characters, is one of the main reasons people play _Street Fighter_ in the first place.
@@kenzie1989 you are right it was a whole thing during that time, FF had rock to take Terry’s place, Tekken had Jin replace the then protagonist kazuya, MK introduced disciples in MK 4 with Kai/Jared/reiko. The new gen theme was a whole thing theme around that time
But that's not the reason why it failed though.
We don't have Brazil represented by Blanka in 3rd strike but we have Noritaka Funamizu😁🇧🇷
Love these deep dives, fighting games have so much lore it's crazy.
I wish they did not shelve Alex, he should have been the Luke of SF6
That is interesting that Street Fighter III originally didn't include Ryu.
I will admit that I wasn't too keen on the Street Fighter EX series. But in hindsight I think it's great. It's too bad we never got a remaster collection of them.
I remember as a kid I had subscriptions to a few video gaming magazines and I remember the very first article about SF3 in any of them mentioned that Ryu, Ken and Chun Li were completely absent and it completely killed my interest.
I wonder if they were aware of the reception the original version of Mortal Kombat 3 had with no Scorpion, Raiden and Johnny Cage.
Dude....I feel like such a weird oddball, because when Street Fighter 3 came out, while I never had a dreamcast, I remember seeing it during a free-reading period in 5th grade (started in fall 2000, ended in summer 2001 for the time period) while reading a gamepro magazine in their fighting game + japan section, and was blown away. I felt my mouth drop, and gasped out "woooooooah...." I did read in the section how it said that New Generation and 2nd Impact were polarizing but the upcoming dreamcast release was gaining traction and excitement. Fast forward, and I was reading a 2001 Gamepro Magazine and in the Fighter's Edge section there were tons of info and combos for the characters and I couldn't stop looking at the kick ass visuals. 1997 was when I started watching anime (Thanks Blockbuster for having Guyver!) and I loved how the sprites looked like an anime. I was also balls deep with Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold and Street Fighter Alpha 3 so the release of Street Fighter 3 was something I wish I had a chance to play. Then I got the Street Fighter Anniversary collection for the ps2 and I fell in love. The soundtrack, the sound effects, the mechanics, the energy and atmosphere, it felt fresh and familiar at the same time. It's still on my top 3 favorite Street Fighter games list, and I still have a helluva good time playing it now.
System direction is on the dreamcast, never knew what it meant or even clicked on it myself :)
Only just finished rewatching max talk through his street fighter history now getting straight into this
It's super funny that I took me 10 minutes to notice one of the devs was, for some reason, using a Brazil soccer team shirt haha
For real, lmao
Idk, If you mention Ryu sf instantly pops to mind and vice versa. He's the main character a lot of the lore is around him taking him out just to freshen things up is like removing Goku from DB.
Facts
That is correct
Sad thing is you're not wrong cause when DBS drop, Gohan was gonna be the main character but everyone said BuT MaH GoKu ThO!? So yeah you're not wrong.
@@shinmasterryu Where did you get that lie? goku was, is and always will be the main character.
At no point sueshia, TOEI or akira toriyama said gohan was going to be the protagonist.
Why are you telling other about your fanfiction like it happened for real?
@@slifer875 And no one said "Muh Goku" either. The author put Goku back because he believed Gohan wasn't suitable for the role. Dude's a clown spreading false info.
19:56 So New Generation and 2nd Impact actually have two types of air parries: forward and down. If you tap forward, you fall backward. However, if you instead tap down, you'll bounce and fall forward like in 3rd Strike.
Craziest thing about that video from back in the day is seeing Brazil's national team jersey with only 4 stars!
I commented tha same thing too. Is this guy brazillian-japanese?
When I played the SF3 cabinet at Disneyland in 97, Ryu wasn’t in it and I was surprised
I had always heard that there was no Ryu or Ken initially in New Generation. Even before this channel and my 09 spike. It's weird to hear that was controversial at one point. I feel like the craziest rumor I remember was it initially wasn't going to be branded as a SF game.
The Street Fighter Anniversary on PS2 was my first exposure to Street Fighter. Third Strike and Street Fighter II were a big part of my childhood.
I played all the three games and honestly... New Generation is mad underrated. My only issue with the game, aside from the infinites and some unbalanc-y, is the lack of characters. Not sure about this but I think I prefer the first to the other ones.
I was riveted to this video from start to finish… wow. Fantastic stuff!
I hope we get a Street Fighter 3 Season DLC pack with all popular SF3 Characters like Makoto, Dudley and Sean.
That would be great
Getting back into street fighter it really surprised me how much ppl were showing love to sf3, growing up I remember it flopping hard when it dropped, it also came out when arcades were dying out bad, once ppl had a chance to play it and like it, it was hard to find a good copy on home console for awhile, just thought ut was a tough game to get into at the time
The first game wasnt bad. Their were improvements to the mechanics, but you can't get the full experience playing third strike. It has the worst Sean, and has lower quality backgrounds and music. Hardcore 3 gamers knew about the Ken and Ryu thing. They used Sean's sprite to make them
I don’t understand how a 2D fighting game fan could look at New Generation at launch and say it looks so bad they don’t want to play it. SF Movie I can understand.
Without Street Fighter 3 things would not be so amazing for street fighter 6 now.
I have a dream.
It is to see a street fighter 3 with parry system and that art i love, but with all roster of street fighter 2 in the visual art of street fighter 3 if that happen, thats will ve the best fight game all time...
Agreed
Well... I mean, in terms of 3D fighting games, Capcom had, and this was 1997, Rival Schools. The arcade version, that is. The PlayStation version was only released the next year. The EX series? Sure, 3D but still has the 2D gameplay gimmicks. The latest Fighting Layer EX(?) looks neat, though I've heard mixed opinions over the years.
Recently got into 3rd strike and attempted 2nd impact , quickly had to swap back 😂
I remember when New Gen first came out, and I basically had the cabinet to myself in my arcade. Lol. I loved playing as Alex, and learning the parry system. I'm thinking of this in retrospect, though, since I didn't realize back then just WHY I was the only one playing it. It was strange at first to only have Ryu and Ken, but I got over that real quick. Killer Instinct 2 was a lot more disappointing to me. It felt like a completely different-and worse-game than the first KI. KI2 was also pretty empty, though
So did you actually feel the big change with 2nd Impact?
@@mikejonesnoreally strangely enough, I didn't. I played 2nd Impact on my Dreamcast, and never tried it in the arcade. It wasn't really until 3rd Strike that I really noticed the game had evolved, especially since I did see that one in the arcade, and people played it way differently than I did at home. I need to go back and play 2nd Impact.
man was this eye opening
It was weird seeing my friends have a fit over SF3 but I liked it. Grown should be adults no longer in High School complained about how SF 3 still didn't have a good story mode and only Ken and Ryu were the returning characters.
I remember not liking 3S when it first came out and much preferred Alpha 3 and even EX3 but over time I came around lol
I knew SF3 had a troubled development, but never seen this.
Having played since SF2; sf3 is still my top one. Art style, game mechanics and now the music. Hated it back then but its grown on me now lol
Crazy to think there are bits and pieces of a fourth version of SF3 sitting in Capcom's basement somewhere. Dig it up!
I wish.
Im baffled that luke is supposed to be the leader of new generation of fighters. A role SEAN was supposed to have considering he was the best character in 2nd impact then nerfed him to ground in 3rs strike
I remember when it was No Ryu, Ken or Chun. I always and still love SF3. It was so different but ppl didn’t like the fact it was no recognizable characters in the game so they added who we were familiar with.
There's a second impact cab where i work, game still feels really good to play.
SF3 vanilla was the least popular Capcom fighter in the arcades where I live. Of course, players flocked to try it out but a lot of them went back to the other Capcom fighters. Even SFEX+ had more playtime.
I wanted more from the interview. Damn. I agree with everything Max said in this react.
I remember in one of the magazines of the time they mentioned that Ryu and Ken weren't originally in the game. Think it was EGM. Pretty sure they mentioned that it was fan pressure from the test builds that finally got Ryu and Ken in.
same thing, but i read that from my local game magazine, thats why It Titled "New generation"
i remember that article too! After watching this i thought it must have been a false memory but i swear there were breakdowns of the new animations and EGM was going nuts over the Hadouken now being something like 40 some frames while the old one was 20 and they had frame by frame pictures. Yet that article was relased to Hype Up *New Generation!* o.O
@@mikejonesnoreally Yep. The reviews were terrible too. It took a while before I gave Second Impact a chance. But when I finally did I stopped playing MvC2 for the most part because 2I was a better game.
I was surprised to hear Max mention that people didn't know Ryu and Ken weren't in the initial tests. That they were calling him a liar or whatever just blew my mind. It was publicly available info even back then that it happened.
@@penismightier9278 False memories are weird. It's funny that my mind *really* wants me to think i'm *certain* it had to be a Hype article for New Gen when it was probably an article announcing the joyous return of our Shotos. It's that level of certainty though that gave it away as a false memory. i'm never actually that certain or absolute about anything. :3
@@mikejonesnoreally Where I'm at is that I don't remember if it was before SF3 came out or after. Maybe even when 2I came out? But I know the information came out during that time span.
Been watching your videos for a while, I’m really glad you made this, I can definitely appreciate all of the SF3 iterations a whole lot more.
As someone that played New Gen in the arcade in ‘97 and actually didn’t hate it…but I couldn’t figure out why I kept getting pulled to other fighters at the time (Even KOF 97 was more enjoyable to me at the time) over New Gen. This video makes sense and really helps fill in a lot of context. Also I don’t know why people were saying you were lying, lots of these kinds of interviews in Japan weren’t archived thoroughly so there’s lots of discussions by developers and directors that were published in various magazines and mooks that are buried. The absence of Ryu and Ken wasn’t considered a far fetched rumor either. Even when NG was the only SF3, it felt like they were afterthoughts.
It's only a matter of time for Ryu to finally defeat Akuma in a straight up and intense brawl.
That kinda happened in Ryu final.
unless they ruin his character and have Ryu get beat by Luke...which would make me so damn mad, lore wise Ryu is pretty op now.
I bet in street fighter vi ryu was supposed to be a grandmaster and just holding back like oro.
And it's only a matter of time for Ryu to marry Chun-Li and have kids with her.
Ryu has never beaten Akuma canonically in a Street Fighter game Akuma always reigns supreme over him in all their fights.
This is why I love you max, for videos like this
I've always loved the art of Street Fighter 3. Never knew how to play it, but they brought that Darkstalkers style to this version. It still looks better than 95% of game visuals.
This game took awhile to sink in for me but I love it now.
The journey from New Gen to 3rd Strike is a powerful reminder that sometimes, cutting your losses isn't the way to go. Sometimes, you should clean up your mess, no matter how hard it is. Street Fighter might not have come back at all, if Capcom had walked away from III after New Gen failed.
Why does he have a Brazillian shirt bro thats so based
Wait, why is one of the guys in that video wearing a brazilian soccer team shirt? XD
BRASIL NÚMERO UM DO MUNDO
BRASIL NUMERO UM DO MUNDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Soccer is very popular worldwide. Brazil is dope.
Same reason we wear different team jerseys. He likes them..lol
Cause Zico a brazillian football player taught the japanese guys to play football.
"Jico Jico.. " they used to scream
Thanks Max! It was very cool to find this! For myself, i bought New Gen but man i think the first Marvel vs. Capcom is to blame for some of the lack of attention. That and we all fought Gill a few times and were like: "Welp. Back to Web-Head!" The next releases to compete with it were Mahvel 2 and of course our *first* chance to play online in: CvsSNK2EO. We ain't made o' steel Max.....
I saw something that said Ken was supposed to have a whole new moveset, save for his dp which was the only non-negotiable move for him. But they kept him how he is because the new kit + dp was op………WHAT WERE THOSE MOVES!?
I knew New Gen to Third Strike was a climb, but holy shit I didn't realize it was THAT much of a climb. Also quite a nugget that one of the leads basically spent his whole time trying to nail down the Parry System.
New Generation has better drawn background stages. SFIII went from the pinnacle of hand drawn pixel artwork to crappy cgi renders. So for that reason alone, New Generation and 2nd Impact have a place to me.
Almost as good as your arcade stories
.. Which we miss a lot. Give us more please
Dreamcast version of 3rd Strike was actually my first experience with SF3. I hope you do a deep dive into it someday.
Interesting interview.
A 4th SF3 was in development at one point. Shame that was canceled. Same with CvS3.
Yo Max I like your commentary and you this interview, these are things I felt for years but didn't really know how to word it with the SF franchised. Also Street fighter EX is one my favorites SF games and the community hates it but everybody I know likes it
Great story, Would love to see more story's 🔥
THE BRAZILIAN SHIRT LMAO
Most people in these comments werent born when SF3 came out.
Guys like Max and us are ancient af its making me sentimental
However, one thing that is better with the parry system in second impact vs third strike is the fact that you had TWO ways to parry while in the air. The forward Parry, that would kind of stop your momentum and make you fall, and the down parry that would carry your momentum and continue to traverse the air. That was brilliant and sorely missed in third strike.
This will be interesting 👀
Love to hear about street fighter 3
Yes I think I was the only minority who actually played and enjoyed vanilla SF3 back in the arcade.
This was when SFEX came out also and just like you said, this was when 3D revolution was happening and everyone was playing SFEX instead of SF3.
There should have been a fourth version with five SSFII characters - Guile, Vega, Sagat, Bison and Cammy. Just to bring back more SFII fans.
I was one of the few who actually played NG at arcades lol I fell in love with Dudley
I played sfIII new gen all tha time in tha local store
I wonder if we'll ever get a totally new IP as far as a fighting game goes. Unless there's a recent one that I'm missing. Fighting games are almost 100% legacy titles that have been around for decades. If there's a developer that can create every character from scratch and it be a big hit I'd be surprised
Skullgirls is the closest thing to what you're saying. I think most new fighting games we'll get in the future will be established IP's from outside the fighting game space, being converted into fighting games, like Dragonball FighterZ, or the upcoming Project L.
Probably just continuing to get new indie stuff, and a lot of popular animes/cartoons will be turned into arena fighters instead, by companies. The fighting game pie is way too small, for way too small of return, to invest in an entire new traditional fighter for these companies. I'd love to see it though.
Blazblue did it. At the *height* of "All Hail SFIV the returning hero!" at that. o.o Other than that, yeah you've really got a point! :D
You would have to look to indie games as of right now.lots of creatives stuff coming from that area
mmmmmmmmm
I also remember that in consoles it was a dissapointment that no capcom fighters came put during the N64 era, so all nintendo fans where cutout...
I live in Asia and have always heard since the beginning that Ryu and Chun were only added in the game after fan outcry or something. Can't remember where I heard it from but it was probably just the word on the street.
SFIII New Generation is still my favorite Street Fighter of all time .. ☝🏻🙌🏻❤
It's funny you actually mentioned how NG was ghosted, cause it happened with the same arcade where I frequented too when it first came out. As soon as it came out, it was spotted in the main attraction spot where the New Games Usually get placed in.. but after a week. It was relegated to The Back of The Arcade where no-one goes too. 😅
But of all the annoying/weird flaws/things about NG.. it had The Best Post-Win Screen in The Entire Franchise. To THIS DAY!
NG has my favorite character select with the music and the announcer saying the characters name etc
@@BurgurBun another thing, since you bought up the announcer; is something they took out of 3S till every game after.. the KO announcement.
I've noticed, since I started playing GA again.. when you knockout an opponent with a Regular Move. It/He says, 'KO!' .. but when you do it with SA, He says, "KNOCK OUT!" which I really rather prefer. 😁
I remember it was either EGM or Gamepro who mentioned the fact that ryu and ken were not going to be added to SF3. Not sure why anyone said it wasn't true when it was.
I heard about this and this confirms it
The jersey!
THIS IS BRAZIL!!!
I played a lot of the first SFIII version and I loved the game on its release but I've playing almost nothing of 3rd impact, the reason is because I played a lot of KI2, MvC, Real Bout and Tekken 3
So would you say there's parallels between the starts and finishes of SFIII and SFV? How bad the launch SFV was to how long it took to get to where it ended...
This was up in the air? I remember when the game first came out and they were doing all the behind the scenes that they didn't have Ryu and Ken. Alex was supposed to be the main character. Then they put Ryu in and then Ken.
