Raylan Givens is my favorite fictional character ever. When Winona tries to be nice, but drops the fact that he's the most angry man she's ever met seals it for me every single time. I love this character
It says so much about him that he isn't even aware that he's perceived that way by the woman who he loves the most and knows him best. It's such a great ending to the pilot.
This show was so well done in every way. So many great moments in season 1, I knew right then I was in for the duration. Have to say the scene with Winona coming to Raylans hotel room has to be one of the most moving love scenes Ive ever seen. The silence of dialogue mixed with the beautiful guitar music and very well placed eye contact and looks between both characters always strikes me. U can see and feel the weight of the moment they shared.
I liked how Al Swearengin saw him for who he was almost right away. An extremely angry and borderline sociopathic guy who tried his best to hide it. A chip on his shoulder the size of yellowstone.
I'm so glad there's almost no Ava in this reel because she was the most irritating character in the series but especially her useless damsel in distress act in Season 1. I'm so glad that they decided to bring Raylan and Winona back together, both actors have wonderful chemistry and you really believe they are in love.

I hope this type of video encourages people to actually watch the show on Hulu. The clips don't reflect the amazing writing on this show and the depth of the characters who have very long story arcs in the series. One of the best shows ever made.
I loved how when Raylan broke Dewey's nose again, Raylan called Dewey "Chintown". Nobody else seems to have caught that clever nearly throw away line delivered with his brilliant under acting style. (Jack Nicholson/Faye Dunaway movie reference. See it if you haven't then that crack will make more sense. And be funnier. Mostly because Dewey doesn't pick up on it either.)
Didn't even know about this series until 22' when I saw a clip on RUclips, so I ordered it for only $47. I just checked & it's only $24 now... I've watched it 6 times so far, love it! Favorite series ever, though the short lived two season Carnivale (2003) is a close second.
Here's why Mr. Oliphant crushes this role, it's little but it's a defining characteristic of his performance - his face when he gets in 36:49 is f.ckin awesome
Anybody else ever wanted to see a Justified/Sons of Anarchy crossover? Can you imagine the dialogue between Raylan Givens and Jax Teller?! It’s messed up that Raylan shot Sheldon’s dad like that.
No because Justified has some of the richest dialogue on television and is filled to the brim with talented actors, first being Timothy Olyphant. Charlie Hunnam can barely handle an English accent let alone act and Sons of Anarchy has some of the cringiest writing ever.
Can we please get more Raylin? This guy helps me believe there are real.men who takes no sh(?. So tired of cotton candy balls of men. I'm 67 years old and most men 40 and over has softened incredibly. Raylin thank you for giving me courage without a gun!!!❤❤❤
19:25 I've re-watched this series a few times, and I always have to pause and wonder what the hell this dude was thinking he was going to do here. In what reality was it ever going to be a good idea to lay his gun down and try sneak into a small building that you know contains people who are trying to shoot you?
It was dumb for sure, but he sat it down to open the window and was undoubtedly going to pick it back up, but Raylan clipped him before he could even take his hands off the window.
@scottplunket1048 Paramount's announcement about Bazz Reeves was sort of a deja vu moment for me. A guy that I had been talking to on the internet who is a retired Sherriff's Deputy in New York state of all places mentioned him. And since I have a strong interest in the history of the Southwest, especially Texas, Oklahoma, the Indian tribes, cowboys, outlaws lawmen and Texas Rangers of the period, I had just begun researching Mr Reeves along with Tom Threepersons, and Bill Tilghman when Paramount made their announcement.

16:54 Makes no sense. You've got more guys, better weapons, and the tactical advantage of nobody knowing you're even there yet. Why give that up to take out the only unarmed man?
" supposin' you had a gun in your hand, finger on the trigger - and the inclination - as good as I am, be tough for me to clear my holster..." No, Raylan, it would be easy, since that single-action 1911 he's holding does not appear to be cocked...
But I get it they ain't going to find a main st or city with dirt roads and couple sheriffs here in KY lol. Simple google will show ya that. They had to go to Philadelphia an Washington for that myth
Kinda funny after i seen it once before i still dont know if this was being based on a big old western story in our times or what then either way good ones.
this show is crazy. raylan has grown up in one of the poorest parts of the country. he has seen for himself how forgotten and broken it is. how the coal companies do whatever.- and even after all that. he keeps talking to dewey and people like him. like there is someting fundamentally wrong with them from birth. like they are just forever scum.
If any real-life LEO even remotely had a body count like Raylan Givens, he'd be immediately suspended for reasons of being psychologically unfit for the job.

Timothy Olyphant was great in “Deadwood.”
Olyphant was born for cowboy lawman roles. Loved this show. City Primeval was unfortunate.
You are correct, who directed that train wreck? City primeval didn’t have a trace of Elmore Leonard. I watched a few episodes and gave up. Very sad.
