    I'm from Santiago de Cuba, and I appreciated it was a great video. However I expected to see other parts of the Santiago like La Adameda, Fereiro, El Cobre etc. I think that at this point you must have needed a guider to help you more finding other amazing places in the city and suburbs. Anyway, good job! I liked it.

      Thanks for your comments - I loved Santiago de Cuba and as I said in one of my
      vlogs - I wish I would have spent more time in Santiago de Cuba and I was especially disappointed that I missed El Cobre. Yes a guide would have been amazing but difficult to find in a short time.

      Hi John
      As you know I have been viewing your videos with great interest and I come to one conclusion. You and Pete visit all the high powered destinations that are full of excitement, glamour and appeal. I cite Hong Kong, Las Vegas, New York., Paris. Cuba is not in this category. I am afraid you guys would be - dare I say it - bored. I liked Cuba for its fascinating history, its social experiment that is still in progress, the Spanish language and its people. So I am not saying don't go but realize it is different kettle of fish than the destinations you are used to. But then on the other hand Pete's brother would have a few ideas as well on this.
      Congrats on your Q and A and the 88 days.

    Great Video! How cheap was the juice. Throughout your video's on Cuba there is always a surprise. I am of the opinion not much is for sale yet then you get a store that was selling foreign branded shoes. Im ignorant about the history lobo but you showed a map which showed guantanamo bay naval base. If the USA and Cuba still dont love each other how do they have a Naval base there. Anyway it was a great video I do get a bit confused with the dual currency though.Greg

      Greetings Greg - thanks for your questions - always glad to oblige as it brings out new information.
      Juice was 8 cents US or 11 cents Canadian or Australian per glass - I must have had four glasses - a sugar overdose but at the end of the day I needed it. Every time I walked by there I went back for more juice. These juices are available all over Cuba but not as cheap as here.
      Cuba has a divided economy based on its two currencies. Most of the Cuban population uses Cuban pesos. Some Cubans have access to the CUC - the convertible peso that is equivalent to the US dollar. one CUC = one US dollar. This system was introduced about 6 years ago. One CUC is worth 25 Cuban pesos.
      So basically Cubans get the CUC by working in the tourist industry since foreigners pay with CUCs. (tips, taxis, private restaurants etc.) or by remittances sent from family members mostly located in Miami.
      There is a lot more to it but I will have a vlog on this at some point.
      So the point is, these store with the "great" selection are for tourists or Cubans who have access to the CUC.
      Looming over all this is that the average monthly salary in Cuba may be 30 CUCs (of course paid in Cuban Pesos).
      Guantanamo Naval Base - good question - Cuba gained independence as a result of the Spanish- American War in 1898. Ok the US defeated the Spanish and Cuba got its indepencence but at a price - a US Naval Base at the eastern end of Cuba. Seemed like a small price to pay?
      Interesting video coming this Friday - ok I am biased.
      all the best
      lobo

    Do foreigners & locals use the same bus from havana to santiago

    • @TravelsWithLobo
      @TravelsWithLobo  7 лет назад +2

      Yes - foreigners can only use Viazul Bus Lines - but Cubans can travel Viazul as well. However they must be more expensive than Omnibus Nacionales the other major bus system used by Cubans and not foreigners. The quality of the busses seems to be about the same. So yes in Havana don't do as I did and go to the Omnibus Nacionales bus station. You have to go to the Viazul bus station in the suburbs. About a 10 CUC taxi ride or a 5o cents bus ride.

      It is 2 Pesos Nacional so it comes to about 8 cents US a cup. That is why I couldn't stop drinking it.

    You show Enramadas for one minute, then say it's so interesting, but never show ANYTHING to back up what you're saying other than show people walking up & down the street!

    • @TravelsWithLobo
      @TravelsWithLobo  4 года назад +1

      Thank you, your point is well taken. As a tourist/vlogger one arrives, presses the video button when something is of interest and then much later tries to make a RUclips video out of it. It has its limitations. So I did not arrive knowing that Enramadas is debatably the most interesting street in Cuba (either that or Calle Obispo). That leaves me making the case with the videos that I have. So there you have it, not great but that is how it is. Lobo
