  • Well, it wouldn’t be modern Hollywood without a movie marketing fiasco now would it? A24’s Civil War released to less than stellar and very mixed and varied reviews. Originally marketed as a straight up war movie, the reality was anything but. So I have to ask, did everyone understand the film and what it was going for? Join me dear viewer, as I dive into the world of A24’s Civil War.

    This is my first time seeing film at IMAX theater.
    I have watched war films like "the killing field", "Apocalypse", "Saving Private Ryan"
    Compared to above movies, Civil War troops engage scenes was the most shocking, I have ever seen in my live. The shooting, gun fire and helicopters sound just like you are at the scene of the battle field.
    The film's back ground and events description are vague, which let audience have deep thinking after watching the movie (I like this kind of arrangement).

    I really enjoyed this movie! I’d give it an 8/10. I would honestly say this is a horror movie. With the way it’s cut, the tension throughout the film and even some jump scares, this is definitely a horror film to me. I love that it doesn’t romanticize the violence.

    The Texas and California rural communities have a lot in common. And you’re correct, it’s not just about politics as geography, trade, and natural resources.

  • @robertpinto4671
    @robertpinto4671 Месяц назад +2

    How do you drive to DC from NY without going through (or extremely close too...) Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley? People in the UK are taught next to nothing about American History or our current political landscape. Let's be honest, there are VERY FEW political situations where California and Texas would have common political potions, but that's OK. Garland doesn't really care about building an accurate "what if" world, he just needs the chaos and madness for the characters to travel through.

    Intresting take on the film. My honest takeaway from the movie is that journalism is a heartless industry this is due to the multiple scenes where main characters are taking photos of horrible acts being preformed without a single thought of helping there fellow human being. Just getting the story then moving in to the next. I don’t know the directors background but as a marine that message hits hard because rarely do people give a f*ck about the dudes actually fighting wars.

    Well, your review clears up a lot of confusion on the Balkanization aspect of States alignment. However, I disagree with the politics side of it. I remember The Sentinel Movie was made in Fantasy of killing George W Bush. I got the same thing here. Production probably began Pre-Covid anticipating Trump in 2nd Term. Forego all the left wing screenwriting in movie. Listen to way Plemons’ character says China. Also, Sam Antifa statement was implying Trump had police and military slaughter Antifa in the streets. Then, in the end dreaming of pulling Trump from behind desk & shooting him.

    I think you missed a few things…
    first example: the circuitous route that they took was because the safest way south was to detour around Pittsburgh because southern Pennsylvania is compromised from the East Coast almost to the western state border.
    They’re absolutely was world building… But the people who say there wasn’t probably expected it in a crawl at the top of the film.
    They arrive too late for a sitdown interview, but the lead journalist does get to interview the president before justice is dispensed…
    So Kirsten Dunst’s character would’ve kicked redfash assholes like Matt Taibbi and Glenn Greenwald down several flights of stairs…
    Also this IS a war movie…it’s just not a _soldier story_ . What you mean is that people were expecting more of an *action* movie. Still a war movie though.
    And finally- context clues tell us that Antifa were the _victims_ of the massacre.

    • @OffTheCover
      @OffTheCover  Месяц назад +3

      The film doesn't say either way what the Antifa massacre was... you're injecting liberal bias into your interpretation.
      Matt Taibbi and Glen Greenwald are NOT "redfash" as you call them. Perhaps if you read "Hate Inc." and "No Place To Hide" then you would know that. Again, injecting the mainstream media's liberal bias into your argument... Do some reading bud.

      They're radically different movies. One is hard sci-fi, the other is a political drama. Comparing apples to oranges bud.

    • @ThePowerOfTheD
      @ThePowerOfTheD Месяц назад

      The difference is, Dune has depth whereas this one is just character building unnecessarily seemingly to create a second story without setting up for the second story.
      They marketed the movie as a specific type of movie to get people in the seats just to find out it's a drama guising it's self as suspenseful action.
      There's no explanation... Just follow these characters and see what happens.
      Im not saying don't see the movie, but the director is as you said European, no matter his education on American politics it doesn't explain why the certain states have aligned with the other. You're left guessing why everything is, but at least you know real journalism is meh! Lol
      It lacks in story in a movie that requires some depth and extrapolation.
      With that I'd watch it again overall entertaining.

    This was a fantastic movie. Like it said in the video, if you go in expecting a blood and guts war movie pitting Red vs Blue, you'll hate it. But what it delivers is a movie that is beautifully shot and makes you the viewer apply your own politics to the situation. The biggest complaint I've seen about the movie is "California and Texas would never team up" which I understand. But there's a reason that's done, watch this short video of director Alex Garland explaining this. ruclips.net/video/iFB2pxEUrk8/видео.html
