Decency doesn't support genocide
The ruling elite, and their defenders, hide behind words they have polluted with their despicable actions. They say "journalism is not a crime" while Julian Assange is still detained for exposing US war crimes. They say 'decency' but they are agents to genocide. They say democracy but we live in a capitalist run world where the rich buy elections and mega corporations to control just about everything.
We are in a MAD HOUSE. We need to take it down and in its place build a new foundation that is viable, socially, economically and ecologically just, sustainable and healthy.
We can, but we have to be in solidarity and know the paths that are available to us. Take the "Beyond Growth" panel from Kate Raworth to Jason Hickel, they all have data and proposals. Take Michael Tellinger with Ubuntu Contributionism: A Blueprint for Human Prosperity or Peter Joseph with The New Human Rights Movement and Zeitgeist: Requiem coming out soon.
We don't hear about the real change makers from mainstream corporate news, no surprise, but they are out there. Be aware!
NONE OF THEM SUPPORT GENOCIDE! GTF OUTA HERE WITH THAT BULLSH^T! The middle east is a f*cking nightmare. Not Biden's fault at all. He's still decent.
What the fuck you think Biden can do champ? Does he lead Israel or the IDF? Does he lead Hamas? If the answer to both is no, then he can't fucking do anything.
Anyone who drones on about how much freedom there is in the US, has never lived anywhere other than the US.
All the more reason to fight for it... and not support the permeating double standard as being fair or normal. One set of laws for both the rich and poor, no matter their skin colour or gender. And no special treatment for corporate crime.
Not even that, its more like "Anyone who drones on about how much freedom there is in the US, has never lived anywhere in the US where that freedom is challenged because they're insulated by wealth."
the freedom to lick the boots of your leaders, it looks more like a dictatorship than a democracy
I was cringing so hard when they were going off about journalists and the dangers they face. Not one peep for the 140 journalists Israel slaughtered and on purpose.
And all of them walked past protestors telling them exactly that fact.
if you relisten to that segment, but with the context that it was a threat....
Proof needed.
Well, there was one peep... just not from the comedian. A prominent journalists at least mentioned the dead journalists in Gaza, though didn't specify HOW they died. And yet... vote blue.
That was ENOUGH SAID, what they said. No need to get into "cringe" details at the WHCD. Keep it funny and keep it moving.
Dude is super milquetoast it's no wonder they chose him.
They chose someone they knew would bend over and take it
I still remember Obama’s total 🔥to trump. The whole crowd was laughing at trump….in his face! trump’s hatred for Obama has festered ever since. He NEVER got over it.
I'm pretty sure that's the only reason Trump ran for president, to undo everything Obama did out of spite because his feelings got hurt. Thanks Obama.
@@weedidi7144I can't say you're wrong when you're right.
To be fair, Seth Meyers helped.
Loved watching dump cringe, but unfortunately it drove him to run for president.
@@northerngirl1637 Him running for President because his feelings were hurt says so much about him. Sadly, America voting him in as President says so much about us.
Totally agree, a total sham. This proves that comedic bone without a back bone is meaningless.
That was such a tongue bath that I'd consider it cheating on Scarlett Johannson.
Isn’t she a Zionist?
Where is Michelle Wolf when you need her? Colin Jost was such a disappointment.
Major difference between working for Saturday Neoliberalism Live and The Daily Show. Jost doesn't have political beliefs (which is why the Biden administration invited him)
To not even address the genocide -or call out the journalists & president who are actively using their power & platforms to further the killing- is a massive moral & ethical fail for journalists & even for a comedian like Jost
Get over yourself.
@@rixsugarman4857 😂 that's funny! I did! It's why I actually care about others & what's happening in the world instead of focusing only on myself. Try it! You might feel better about yourself 😁
Jost's spineless deference to power should secure him as the top pick to replace Jimmy Fallon, should Fallon ever do the right thing and retire.
Respectfully, David and followers, the U.S. (my country) has sold weapons to the Saudi’s for decades. Saudi Arabia has committed atrocities/genocide in Yemen for years. We also have a history of selling arms to countries in S. America, as those governments committed atrocities against their people.
Of course youre not wrong, but what is the point youre trying to make? That bc the U.S. has backed other human rights violating nations, that we shouldn't speak about Israel? The current recipient of by far the most weapons & "aide" committing a genocide that they could NOT do without our enabling.
Micheal Moore was onenof the 1st progressive Dems I saw call out the disgusting relationship between the U.S., yet he is going all out trying to get thru to Biden how much he is risking by alienating so many potential voters, warning him Not to make tge aame mistake as Hillary.
That’s true.
Yea but Jews
Yea the US isn't a good nation. Hell we sold weapons to the Taliban who then turned around and used them against our troops. That all being said - Joe Biden isn't the leader of Israel or Hamas. The left blaming him for what is happening in Gaza is just their typical blind directionless outrage.
It is true and it's horrible. People are baffled when I say it's hard to be proud to be an American, when I know my country's leaders have caused so much harm and death in the world throughout the time of our country's existence.
Truth be told, he’s NEVER been a Comedian. He’s just someone who was a segment prop in a comedy show. AND Lucky him, he got to MARRY a rich Barbie. Hurray!!!
Colbert went on stage with a flame thrower. Jost wore knee pads.
😂
It’s a Democrat being roasted by a Democrat. What would you expect. Only republicans are allowed to get roasted at these. When Dems in office it’s an opportunity to make them look better.
I really wish Michael Che had written Colin's jokes for him, it would have been exactly what we needed
Che has the only legitimacy now
I lost all respect for Colin after this
I still think even che wouldn't go as hard as people want right now
Colin Jost isn't a comedian. His role at SNL is to deliver snappy one liners writtten by one of SNL's long list of contracted writers.
This just isn't true
@@martinseal1987 He was the head writer for a time.
He was president of the Harvard Lampoon in college. He was showcased as a "new face" at the Toronto Comedy Festival in 2009.
I'm not saying anything about how good he is at it, but he's a comedian.
This proves that Colin is nothing without Che
Colin and Che were never that good doing their news bits on SNL to begin with, i almost always skip that part when watching SNL
SNL has been garbage for DECADES, even in the 90s it was very hit or miss, but there was some edge to it. Some very talented personalities.
The refuse that NBC has tried to pass off as entertainment over the last 20 yrs is as cringe as cringe gets
@@glowbrightReally? It used to be the only reason I watched. Nowadays I just don't watch period cause at some point it just became not worth it. I've decided to let weekend update rest in my memories for what it was.

Roy Wood Jr’s was hilarious
Yes he was my favorite to host this
He called them all out, brought up issues that regular people need. And was funny the whole time. Wish he woulda done CP time half way through.
“We can all see Clarence Thomas, but he belongs to Harlan Crow… that is what an NFT is.” 😂
This dinner was entirely cringe worthy.
Aren't his funniest joke written by Michael Che anyway?
One of the things I hate the most about Trump is that because him being so awful, it makes it almost impossible for mainstream media (not counting fox obviously) to criticize Biden.
Which plays perfectly into the hands of trump

If Cringe AF was a moment. 🤮
When Bibi worries, Biden strokes his hair and whispers sweet nothings in his ear.
It's more like a weird reverse dom/sub thing where Bibi acts out and wants rough treatment and Biden is disappointing everyone involved
Not every comedian is Stephen Colbert, Hasan Minhaj, or Michelle Wolfe (haha; she broke the dinner, and Trump probably went home crying in his tie). They have no f's to give, and they let loose like crazy. Most comedians push some jokes, then smooth edges with the press and POTUS present. Che would likely push a LOT harder; Jost is the straight man on SNL, and he's known as someone who builds bridges. He definitely wanted to encourage people to vote for Biden. It's not for everyone, just as the edgier comics aren't for everyone. The comics aren't journalists; those sitting at the tables are, though. Is it THEY who should be pushing the issues hard.
Yup glad someone else remembers Wolfe! She rocked.
I watched the dinner and thought Colin did a creditable enough job to rile 45. I found him entertaining
@@sharonmontag2389 he was - actually, better than I suspected he would be.
Exactly, nothing about Colin would suggest he push those issues. He is a people pleasing comic. But with Biden poll numbers, I bet it was a requirement for the dinner was to not bring up Gaza.
Of course they picked a nobody who was obviously willing to be paid off to not draw attention towards the most effed up thing I've seen in my life time.
Colin Jost is not a nobody.
@@rb239rtryou’re right, he’s just somebody married to Scarlett Johansson. 🫤
It's not just empty words - it destroys the very concept of decency when people masquerade as decent.
The DC correspondents are a branch of the oligarchy.
The definition of cringe-worthy.
They should've invited Che instead.
😬 no, this was painful enough.
@@terrancekayton007 At least Che has a pair.
Scarlett's husband does what he's told.
Is that really her husband?
Assange would like a word
Everyone in that building at that moment was/is an embarrassment
it's an incestuous propaganda mill, what else to expect... all nations have insider clique's and this is ours showing their ass.
this was a particularly terrible one. hard to laugh while your president is standing with zionist war criminals at the same moment.
Does anyone really think, no matter what comedian took this job, was ever gonna be allowed to say anything about Gaza? If that's what people were looking for, then people are dumb.
Decency versus obscenity
It really was the worst comedic performance. I was so bored and embarrassed for Colin.
He's a dirtbag scab who crossed a picket line, I don't feel sorry for my oppressors, why do you?
I rolled my eyes so hard when he mentioned Russia thinking how about Assange!
So hypocritical!
you forgot Seth meyers
Trevor Noah did a good job too
US foreign policy must enact an existential revision.
100% agree. So much time spent making faces, so little time on the real issues. I was embarrassed and disturbed.
Yeah, I thought not only was it unfunny, but so tone deaf ESPECIALLY with what’s going on with Biden’s support for “Jenna-side”
Thank you for the 30 rock reference.
It was very funny. You re just a Debby Downer. You just expected more from Colin.
Decent man 🙄🙄.... "oh brother this guy stink!"
there was a gigantic pause after he said that, he could have added please clap
he did not 'stink' for speaking that truth. He stank because he made no refernce to the Biden administration's enabling of Bibi/Israel
"Bring home all the journalists..." Right. Like -- Julian Assange maybe???
I watched part of it online and man, dude seemed so uncomfortable to be there. Like I think he was super scared of even remotely roasting Biden because honestly any roast of him would have probably just been valid criticism. I appreciate some of Biden's work on workers rights (Though I suspect that's him just letting Bernie tell someone what to do) but other than that he's been largely impotent as a president. Trump managed to wield the power of the office far more effectively. He did a terrible job at everything he did and I basically don't agree with any of his policies, but at least he showed up to work.
Trump spent more time in Marlago than the White House tho during his Presidency so even showing up to work wasn't his strong suit either lol
What were the awards even for?👀 Ethics in journalism?😵
Out of sight, out of mind (as long as they get paid) is the American way in 2024.
he says freedom as congress just voted to break the first amendment.
Thank you David. Having watched some clips of this on RUclips, the underlying deceptive rhetoric went completely over my head I'm ashamed to say. Thank you for highlighting this (from the UK).
I feel like we should go ahead and start calling the IDF what they are . . . Storm Troopers.
That rookie comic that does all the impressions probably would've got more laughs
Seth Meyers this was not.
Jost is married to Johansson, apartheid South Africa. She supports Israel so yeah, he won’t say much. He’s got to go home sooner or later.
100%. As a nine year old in 1994, she led mass demonstrations against Nelson Mandela.
That assumes he *wants* to speak out against Israel.
Wow the bar for being President of the USA has fallen to mere DECENCY??? how about intelligence, creativeness, kindness, and being able to relate to people and their problems and having the conviction to actually do something about it?
Oh yeah, freedom, like college students' freedom to speak up.
It's pretty unethical for Journalists to go to a dinner like this. How can they be impartial about politicians.
Here we have alternate reality TV!
One skill that comedians have, that is not as important to someone alone in a room with a microphone, is the ability to read the room. Sometimes a person has to do the job they were hired to do, which Jost appears to have done. He was not there to make people uncomfortable; the protesters outside were there for that purpose. David should deliver this stern and self-righteous monologue while in line at a Wendy's to understand the limits of expressing one's perceived moral clarity regardless of the social situation.
The WHCD has always been a milquetoast, cringy event. It’s about soft jokes that might get a giggle, but don’t offend the status quo. The fact that we’ve had a few comedians who broke those barriers is really more of an outlier. I get the frustration, but honestly what did people expect?
Don't expect anything from SNL's already low-brow humor, beyond just 2016 Trump Orange-Man impressions and Ditsy Republican women spoofs.
Thanks!
Way too many "serious issues". They could use a light hearted night out...give 'em a break.
I largely take this stance as well. He's made dozens of great videos on the ongoing genocide and will no doubt make dozens more but but this one felt unnecessary.
We could. The people in power though have to be bullied into being slightly less horrendous at all times.
Yep. This dinner has brilliantly shown the difference between resistance liberal types like MeidasTouch, Luke Beasley, Pakman, etc... and leftist channels like this one, Humanist Report, Secular Talk, etc. Really interesting.
@@rogerbabin8175 ... I've always said this channel is the left version of Tim Pool. I'm Canadian, and am rather embarrassed by David for the most part.
Colin Jost, the David Pakman of comedy
What's that mean?
Speak truth to power, you coward comedians.
Michael Che should've done this instead of Jost
You can really hear the snipers pointed at him
Nah, he's not Palestinian.
I see your point but at the end of the day I don't think the point of those dinners is to be doom and gloom the whole time that's unrealistic.
These are people privileged to not to have to care about starvation here.
Larry Wilmore talked shit about Obama. Roy Wood Jr got heavy with joking about kids being shot in schools.
Is it just me, or did Jost look like a marionette? Like full-on Howdy Doody.
I notice on SNL they did a special open on the Russian invasion but not a peep about the slaughter in Palestine. I wonder why?
Omfg... if "Cringe AF" was a moment... Ew.
Julian Asange is still in jail.
Well... at least their caviar and champaign were chilled.
I do not know who this young person speaking at the dinner is.I am in my late 60s either this young man is uninformed or misinformed. It may have not been so bad to say that a year ago or so but now. There is no excuse for what he said !
I saw this and I was like WTF?? I was waiting for him to say something. Total garbage speech Jost.
I don't understand why everyone was so upset. Colin Jost doesn't speak for America. He went there to do a job, which was apparently to not really ruffle any feathers, get his check and go home to his wife and kid. He obviously didn't want people coming for him and played it safe as he could.
Of course he didn't address Gaza or Biden's failure to do anything about it. That's probably a large part of why they chose him to do it.
Also, NO MENTION OF JULIAN ASSANGE.
Joe Biden must have wrote that sleepy script
Picking an SNL comedian was the safest option 😂😂
When he says decency, he means 'more hypocritical'.
I don't understand why we bend over backwards for Israel. There's something shady going on.
Jost is a rich kid and a conservative, not sure what everyone was expecting from him. Seems like his worldview is that everything is just dandy. I haven't seen him do any stand up before so as far as I can tell, he reads what SNL writers have given him and looks cute while doing it.
His one funny joke was written by Michael che. So point already proven.
Biden crying about the poor injustly prosecuted journalists while prosecuting Assange is RICH!
Not surprised you left out Trevor Noah
the new gilded age of america
This is such a complicated and interwoven issue which makes it difficult to have a clear viewpoint and any one particular point.
I would not be that critical of Colin Jost's remarks as you were in this video.
He is pointing out that Biden is in line with much of democratic due process as opposed to Trump who by comparison is not. He is not speaking to the Gaza issue, which admittedly is a black mark on Biden's record, but in my view a separate issue from what was being talked about. Trump would be even more pro-Israel and less sympathetic toward the Palestinian fate, although possible with the same outcome.
I think that the very delicate and tricky job of public commentators and activists now is to leverage common points amongst dissident groups to achieve desired outcomes.
It seems that almost no one is in favor of Palestinians being decimated, and it seems that no one, or very few are anti-semetic, yet no one agrees on anything and everyone is putting a lot of energy into defaming the others.
Ok call for a boycott. Don’t vote for Biden. What’s the worst that could happen? 💁♀️ What happened last time democrats decided not to vote in protest? Oh!!!! Trump won the vote! He overturned Roe vs Wade. I’m sure if we don’t vote in this election nothing like that will happen again… Who’s on the ballet this year???
I'm voting for Biden, but I'm not gonna pretend as if he's a savior. He's a genocide enabling right winger. Liberals can't admit that because they're too far gone.
What are you going on about. The election's over, Trump has won, the Washington Generals threw the election like they always do. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. Why are you pretending there's going to be a fight?
Why would the people who didn't protect Roe v Wade, suddenly start protecting Roe v Wade? They gave away two supreme court seats. Ginsburg was 80 years old and riddled with tumors and as her last gift gave Trump another justice.
And what are the democrats currently doing? Increasing the powers of the office of the president, for Donald Trump when he gets into office. They're just as responsible for the forthcoming nuking of Palestine/war with Iran as the republicans are.
Yeah, it was very uncomfortable in many ways.
First time I ever heard of Colin Jost . Have no clue who he is .
I didn’t know this was even going on
It sounds as though the White House literally wrote his speech.
Probably did. Can't have biddy looking like the baby bomber that he is.
I agree. I think it was funny kind of… Mostly awkward I thought.
Democrats: "We must vote for Joe because democracy is at stake and Trump would be no better."
People: "Can Joe stop the genocide for the sake of our democracy?"
Democrats: "No"!
What does what is happening in Gaza affect our democracy?
@@RastaPr81Joe Biden is losing voters for his support of genocide. As a result Trump is more likely to be elected, which will negatively affect democracy in the US.
@@RastaPr81 people don't want to give support to someone directly supporting a genocide. It's a big part of why Biden is likely to lose what should have been one of the easiest electoral Ws in history.

@@RastaPr81 Perhaps the influence AIPAC has on our Govt. has something to do with it.
Stephen Colbert, Michelle Wolf, and Larry Wilmore were fantastic. Conan O’Brien was funny but not controversial. Everyone else has been a letdown.
I saw this live. And, honestly, he looked like someone wrote this for him. Someone told him he needed to support Biden. It wasn't funny, and it didn't roast anyone. Which is the frickN point.
He's only funny when Michael Che writes for him
I’m still voting for Biden
The one thing I wish more Americans understood (and the citizens of all colonial powers) is that our governments know exactly what's going on, have known for a very long time, and support it, fund it, and participate in it. We will not shame them, but we can expose them. Relentlessly.
Re Jost, his wife was a spokesperson for both Oxfam and Sodastream, and when Oxfam pointed out that her work with Sodastream was a problem because of the exploitative practices on the West Bank, she dropped Oxfam. These "celebrities" are not worth our time or energy, most certainly they are not worth looking up to. They are just paid shills for empire. (Yes, I'm aware there are exceptions who do good things, but they are still paid shills. Never forget.)
And, what about Assange?
I agree with your assessment of the night
Jan O Side isn't something I would call decent!
I thought Colin was hilarious and well balanced even though he roasted Biden most of the time but Biden took it in stride and then roasted himself.
I expected Jost not to be super edgy, and he wasn't. it isn't his way - unless he's reading the jokes Che wrote for him at the end of the seasons (Jost is getting better at this ;) ). Ultimately, it's not the comedian's job to skewer the government, it's the journalists,
