  • I recently released a video about easily adding a computer-generated voice to iClone characters by using the Replica Studios plugin. But what if you have a real voice already recorded and just want to add it to your character with some lip-syncing? Luckily, that is just as simple and does not require any plugins. Here's how to do it.

Well done. I am having trouble with longer wav files. The system truncates it. So of a 30 second video, it stops after 15 seconds for example and doesn't play beyond that.

I haven't had time to try to recreate this, but off the top of my head, I would check your timeline length in the project settings and make sure it is long enough.

I wish Daz made lip syncing that easy. Sadly you can only use the lip sync option in the 32 bit version and I think they are removing it all together with the new Daz 5 that's coming out.

That is a shame. There is plugin for that somewhere, I would imagine.

@@0calvin There's two plugins, mimic and another I can't remember and a whole bunch of facial animations. I have some of those animations

Dude I love your video tutorials. I only just found your channel but as a fellow budding animator I have to confess that I think IClone lips sync is the worsted example of lip sync I have ever encountered. If you are shy and never look at peoples mouths as they talks you will miss out all the small and large expressions that we make with our mouths and faces. Take a look at some of the old animated cartoons with talking characters and you will see what I mean. The Iclone talking engine is a very cheap generic engine that makes the mouth open and close with next to no existing facial expressions. To get the most realistic lip sync you should have the ability to tweak the mouth and face morphs but Iclone gives very limited choice on doing this.
The only good examples I have seen on Iclone facial and mouth talking animations has been with the use of Apple iPhone addon. I personally think spending over $1000.00 for an iPhone is a waste of money unless you have plans to go into full production of movies.

Thanks - I'm glad you like the channel. As for the lipsyncing- it's a matter of how much time you want/need to put into it. You can change what phonemes are used in the timeline, and if you have 3DXchange you can modify the phonemes to suit the character. Also, with CC4 / iClone8 that is now out, they have expanded the expression set by quite lot and modification of expressions and phonemes can be done right in the software. So, certainly my quick, crappy automated example is... quick and crappy, but the software can do more if you put in the time. Cheers!
