Modern obsidian isn’t the same company that made New Vegas, Kotor 2, Alpha Protocol, etc. Still would be interesting to see a different studio than Bethesda make a new fallout game.
Hire them back...
Maybe, they are still light years ahead in writing quality than most studios including Bethesda
Irrelevant
@youtuvi7452 Unfortunately, this is not the case with the outer worlds. That "game" was quite jarring with how bad it was
honestly give the title to Machine Games, they nailed alternate universes and nuked cities
Josh sawyer is still at the studio he just worked on pentiment, he was the director of FONV.
Not to mention that dude sounded dumb. Pillars 2 was great, outer worlds was fun, pentiment was great like that dude obviously just wanted to hate on obsidian.
And Josh Sawyer constantly notes that a few individuals do not make a game great. Just because Avellone and Gonzalez left does not mean it's over. They still made great games like Pentiment and PoE
@@Tampafan33out worlds wasn't that great
Gimme an 8/10 New Vegas 2 any day of the week before a Fallout 5 in 10 years we're I'll be looking for my daughter surrounded by more Brotherhood of Steel and Super Mutants
Wow, if an "abysmal" track record is getting around an 8/10 on every game release over the last decade... What the hell would we call the track record of basically every other dev studio out there? Obsidian seems to be one of the only studios that can consistantly provide a well received game, ESPECIALLY across multiple genres from survival, to RPG, to a visual novel adventure games.
Yeah I definitely don't agree that it is abysmal, at WORST it is ok/decent. Outer Worlds was the weakest for me personally but even then it was still ok, but I loved Grounded and would put it on par with Valheim in terms of survival games for me. There definitely still is talent there even with a majority of the original NV team having left. At the very least a current Obsidian Fallout would be better than the past 2 that BGS has produced.
Critic reviews are pretty much useless and don't reflect the quality of the game at all. Outer worlds realistically is a 4/10 game and most of their games since new vegas are around that score too.
@@zVampiirePlatypus u trippin
Grounded is 90% positive on Steam, Outer Worlds is 84% positive, Pillars of Eternity is 87% positive... I'm pretty sure they have done very, very well.
@@pvpelillo2054 nah people rate games too highly most of the time.
Play it out logically. Is Bethesda any better? Are you willing to write off a potential Obsidian Fallout in favour of another Bethesda one over a decade later? I see the anti obsidian sentiment and roll my eyes. Bring me NV2
This is the same company working on Avowed. It’s the people at the studio that make the studio what it is. Without the old team, it won’t be anywhere close to what it was. I get that Josh Sawyer is still there but he wasn’t the only one doing all the work.
@@naterod It’s a dice roll whether a prior feature in Bethesda games persists into the next game. Spellmaking. Duties and advancement in guilds. Attributes. Skills. Starsigns. All features Bethesda saw fit to abandon despite praise. The staff of Obsidian may be different but the faults at Bethesda never change.
Bethesda devs are incompetent af and this pathetic emil guy. I have no hopes for any of their incoming games.
Even with their older games - I don't like them Morrowind was kinda good, oblivion and skyrim both overrated af. Fallout 3 was an average exception.
Fallout 4 was a bad looter shooter thing.

Obsidian' is not perfect but their writing team is just significantly more competent than Bethesda and Emil.
It's worth giving them (Obsidian) another shot at the franchise for that reason alone
"Better than Bethesda and Emil" is basically high school drama club level of writing, a bar set extremely low.
After "The Outer Worlds"? Nah.

Modern gaming is so depressing. We used to get great games so often
AAA great games are more rare these days, gotta look more to AA and below. AAA are just obsessed with microtransactions live service trends but don't realize the game has to be good also and not just be some popular franchise name thinking people will stick with it and give them money for a shallow unfun game.
Maybe stop obsessing over bad games? This year has been great for games so far.

@@airyshark324 There's not enough space here to even begin to cover it. The short answer is New Vegas is much more like the original games Fallout and Fallout 2, in terms of tone, setting, and world-building. I'd recommend you play those first two games if you want to understand the gist of Fallout.
Bethesda's games are more like a series spin-off.
A updated New Vegas with the DLC and all the stuff that they had to cut to make the deadline helmed, by Obsidian would quite frankly be the bee's knees.

Id kill to see Larian tackle the franchise, but i respect and understand they want to do their own IP.
can you imagine a 3rd person isometric turn based Fallout game made by Larian. Possibly party oriented....wow.
Fallout Tactics 2
100% though I think it's less of them wanting their own IP and more of them wanting to feel like they have a high degree of creative control. I think they'd be hesitant to work with Microsoft as a publisher unless Microsoft was willing to let go of the reigns a bit more than usual. Which I think Larian has definitely earned but there is no guarantee that Microsoft executives would agree with that assessment. After all Larian doesn't own any part of the IP for Balder's Gate 3.
You can have sex with a deathclaw in Larian Fallout
I don't care who does it. Someone just needs to. Microsoft should have gotten a Fallout remake or un-numbered sequel off the ground at one of their studios the day they got the rights to the IP. They're complete idiots for even waiting this long.
I'm sure Obsidian would love the chance to remake New Vegas. They had big plans for that game, but weren't able to do what they wanted to do because of time frames, hardware, and software restrictions. All barriers they wouldn't have now.... well other than software restrictions if they have to use Creation Engine. Let them remake New Vegas into the game they originally wanted it to be.
Not sure I would say they’re idiots. Keep in mind that despite its launch and how some still view it Fallout 76 has been a thing and been getting new expansive content for years. Releasing a new game(remake or not) that potentially cuts in to 76 revenue stream is a bit silly givin 76 gives new content and is a service based game.
Now if 76 weren’t there I would agree. But no point in rushing a out a remake or new game when a already developed game that gets more and more content is there.
Microsoft and Bethesda are so incompetent. It's really quite impressive.
Yeah, I don’t get how they’re so stupid. For instance, at the very least, they should’ve had a double port of new Vegas in fallout three ready to go on the switch sort of like maybe a light remaster of the game maybe adding some costumes from the TV show or something.
They could’ve done that within a few days of work extremely fast and it would’ve been extremely profitable.
I am 28 years old now, and there’s a whole generation of teenagers who did not grow up with the fallout series.
I’m legitimately, shocked that they didn’t have some sort of port for modern consuls ready to go especially because the PlayStation five is also not backwards compatible
Lmaooooooo a port to switch “in a few days”…. Complete idiots
Bethesda is the incompetent for Microsoft it literally doesn’t matter
@@Faceplay2yup so stupid to realize they don't have to do a damn thing and people will still flock to their 20 yr old games and buy them like hot cakes. 🙄
Bethesda gets away with it because their fans love the pain but Microsoft on the other hand has gone from going toe to toe with Sony 10 years ago to being in dead last place despite buying 80% of the video game dev teams in the world. Microsoft being a trillion dollar company is the only reason Xbox is still around.
Not sure what that commenter was smoking, but Obsidian has also made good games. Feargus Urquhart, Chris Parker, and Josh Sawyer, OG veterans of Black Isle and the Fallout series, are still there. Additionally, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, the creator of Fallout, who made Outer Worlds are also somewhat still affiliated with Obsidian. With the success of BG3, it's time for a modern remake of Fallout 1 and 2, retaining the isometric view but incorporating more modern game features like those added in BG3, and balancing them out.
Based on Obsidian's gameplay trailer for Avowed, I don't care if they do or don't. Unless they reassembled the teams of dudes that made New Vegas, it's whatever
Here's my million dollar question. If an Xbox studio gets a Fallout spinoff, will they be forced to used creation engine?
hopefully not
Bethesda will never give obsidian or any other company a chance to upstage them again. Keep up the good work Luke
But Microsoft might 😊
As much I want that idea to give me hope I remember playing The Outer Worlds and how the only word I could think of to describe it was Soulless. Right after finishing it I booted up NV again to get the type of experience I actually wanted.
i couldnt make it through more than a few hours of combat in OW. thought it was very poor
Tim Cain Josh Sawyer and Chris Avelone = the perfect fallout game
I bought a PS5 after watching The Last of Us on HBO. Before that I wasn't into video games but I thought the story was so intriguing that it convinced me to try them out. Since then I've platinumed 6 games, found your channel, and discovered a new source of joy. The Fallout show is great. Microsoft would be stupid not to try to get my money.
I always would recommend New Vegas, even with the bugs (on PC there's not many, and i played above 500hrs). It has the best RPG that you can find in any Fallout game (apart from 1 and 2).
NV is old but gold.
No. They would do a good job. Better than Bethesda. Todd cant have that now can he.
What's even worse is that Fallout 76 is getting allot of attention...because the show...
@@TheInfamousWolfI wouldn’t say it’s worse ,76 is pretty good nowadays especially with the new map expansion a lot of good past updates
@@laytonvinglas552nah fam, the life line of that game is Gamepass, that shit is still terrible and most of the horribly put together content of the release is still there

Obsidian isn't the same Obsidian.
Not that excited about a BGS Fallout anymore. They don't really seem to have the talent, passion, engine, investment to pull it off anymore. I'd love to see Obsidian give it a shot. It's really, really surprising someone higher up didn't time the show release with a Fallout release too. It would have sold gangbusters.
Yeah, that was the whole reason behind the TLOU remake.
I mean I agree but why?? They didn't have to do shit and their 20 yr old games are selling gangbusters. Why remake and lose money when people will just buy the old games. They are a buisness and will always think like a buisness. As much as I wish they had given us a remake or even a new entry.
@@IamKiener I'm surprised because the next gen update is free, as I understand it, almost all people who ever would have played Fallout already have the games, show notwithstanding, and those few who don't and buy it new can get it at a really, really low price. This compared with having timed things to coincide with a new Fallout game, and everyone under the Sun buying it. Just seems a little off to me, planning-wise. Who am I to judge though. I definitely do not think BGS is a top tier developer anymore though. They need to wholesale change engines, relationships with the community and modders that support their games, work a bit better towards what would serve the gameplay. My opinion though. I'd be more excited about someone else doing a new Fallout game honestly, after what I have seen from them for years now.
I honestly don’t care at all who makes the next fallout game. I just hope it’s a great RPG and comes out before I’m dead.
Obsidian can definitely do it, idk why people think they can't, Obsidian has the heart and soul to make a great Fallout game and they have talented people there
Because it's not the same company from before.
@@marcuscain1377Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer still work for Obsidian
Josh sawyer, Tim Cain, Leonard boyarski. That would be such a good fallout game
Since Josh is still with Obsidian and Tim is with Obsidian as a consultant, you already have 2 out of three with Obsidian.
Game making tools have advanced like crazy yet video games take longer to make. I feel like there's some management issues in this industry.
I can only assume that there was something in the acquisition contract between Microsoft and Bethesda that gave Bethesda complete control of its IP's in perpetuity.
Because as you said, it doesn't even make sense that things seem to be going.
Obsidian's record has been way better than bethesda in terms of scores. Working on a game for 10 years to only get 83 is ridiculous, they have more budget and time than obsidian.
Good way to play FO3 nowadays is using Tales of Two Wastelands which is awesome since you can also play New Vegas in the same playthrough!
Microsoft should force the issue and have BGS take a back seat. Even from a financial perspective it makes sense to get a project moving.
The head of Obsidian has stated that even if they were given the go ahead to make a Fallout game, with their current line-up of projects, it would be about a decade before they could even start.
Only if they rehire the older Obsidian employees. People need to realize that just because the company is the same...it's not the same people in the company anymore. That's why The Outer Worlds was not the same. Also it had a lower budget but hey you get the idea.
The director of FONV is still there, he just made pentiment and said he’d come back for fallout, probably didn’t wanna work on a clone of the franchise.
Tim Cain also worked on the outer worlds. He’s the father of Fallout. He’s consulting on OW2. It had heart like a lot of it. It was just such a mediocre experience.
Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer = NV2
@@naterod It was interesting for what it was, but it felt like walking into a fish bowl on every level. It was empty and void of life. The enemies were attached to these preordained spots that you could kite them from and they'd just return to them over and over.
@@oddersisadog I mean the budget was really small. Now they have no excuse for 2. They are owned by the richest company in the world.
I want the oblivion remake
I would be happy with a from the ground up remaster of new vegas but keeping all its options for dealing with quests, that allows us to explore more of the legions territory and learning more about how the legion lands operate. Having the DLC also remastered with the endings of each dlc affecting the ending of new vegas in someway, for example salvaging the auto docs and vending machine's from the sierra madre and giving the to the followers.
Only BGS could be involved in making a Stellar tv series based on a franchise in which they have no recent media releases, and no plans to release within the next 5-10 years. Falls in line with all their terrible decision making over the past decade or more
I think I can speak for the majority of fallout and Bethesda fans when I say that if they were to remaster fallout 3 and new Vegas, and I’m not talking about some graphic updates, I’m talking about it being remade in the latest creation engine used for Starfield, for instance, we would pay $80 for those games to be refreshed entirely. Resident evil is a prime example of this. it’s honestly a no-brainer to keep the fallout games fresh. They could sell it for full price and they would sell as many if not more copies than they did before with Half the effort into the game because the story and side quests will already be there.
The foundation is already there. The old games just feel very old now and tough to go back to with missing mechanics and such that we expect now such. Look at the graphical, and mechanical differences between fallout new Vegas and Skyrim.. they were released a year apart but feel like they were launched in a different era.
Also off-topic, I have 600 hours of fallout for on steam. That doesn’t count for the heavily modded versions I have that aren’t recorded hours, I’m probably around 1200 hours in the game. For the first time ever saw a character I’ve never seen before that is a random encounter. It’s the raiders chef. I’ve never seen him before and he fucked me up in the middle of nowhere on survival mode lol. Those kind of things keep me going back to the fallout games.
Yes, and Microsoft needs to establish a couple studios that only make Fallout games.
No. Let’s not try and do an EA and mass pump out games that are complete shit.
Just remake New Vegas in the 64bit engine like Skyrim Special Edition
Might be a hot take but I would honestly love nothing more than for Obsidian to just have control over the Fallout IP in its entirety going foreword. I think it would be amazing to have a passionate studio solely dedicated to fallout. BGS is so all over the place and I would argue their last 3 games have more than proven they aren't what they used to be. It would be so poetic if the original creators of fallout reobtained the IP and brought it back to life. Obsidian may not have the same track record they had back in the day but you can truly see a real spark of passion in that studio even to this day, which is something BGS sadly lacks it seems.
You my remember a guy called Tim Cain, still consults for obsidian. Would hope they would try and bring him in if they got the green like on a other fallout.
The smart move would have been: new vegas and fo3 switch ports during the week of release when the show came out
I mean why not, it’s better than waiting for however many decades for another installment. Doesn’t have to be New Vegas 2 but anything new in the franchise would be nice. Obsidian isn’t a horrible studio they’ve shown to have a decent track record at least recently.
Safest option is remaking New Vegas, a new game would need Todd’s approval, and the process would take too much time to create something new out of nowhere just for money. A Remake would be the faster, so you can capitalize of the show’s sucess, maybe announce it along with season 2, wich will already have New Vegas in it, you can get more people into the New Vegas storyline, wich would be better than just making a sequel so every type of fan can enjoy it.
If anything inXile could also be an option for a AA Fallout game, whether it’s a remake or a new game
I think we might see a remake of 3 released and new content for 76 be developed over the years until Fallout 5 comes out. If Xbox and Bethesda are smart they can advertise and draw people to 76 for the new content while the show is going and not need a brand new game like 5 until its ready. And lets be real its not like hype for the games will just die off if a game doesn’t come out during the shows run. Its a massive series and the show has helped solidify new fans.
Let InXile remake fallout 1/2 for the modern gamers like wasteland 3. Or a spin off fallout series from them.
They should do another Alpha Protocol. I want them to remake it or make a better one.
@11:58 I can't complain about Fallout 3 with patch 1.7.4 on Steam. Even the controller support is good. Runs great with Proton GSE-9.4.
My child will have nearly graduated college by the time a new fallout comes out..... HELL NAH. That's crazy
I’d prefer inexile, over obsidian personally.
The gap between Fallout 4 and Fallout 5 might actually be the same amount of time as Morrowind and Starfield. That's WILD.
Remind me was it the name obsidian that made fallout Vegas or was it the people that no longer work there that made it?
Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer still work for Obsidian. Those 2 are the ones that matter for a NV2
That man is crazy if you go back and play the Outer world right now with all the DLC and really play it. It’s so good.
They would hit it out of the parks because all the OG black isles devices are now obsidian and they understand the IP and the world better then bethesda
I think at this point Microsoft would have to be insane to not start shopping around the IP to other developers. Obsidian is the obvious choice because they have history and Microsoft owns them too. Though if I am being honest I think another great option which is obviously less likely would be Larian Studios. I could very easily see Larian making an AMAZING Fallout CRPG that Harkens back to the original Fallout 1 & 2. Another that I think could do that CRPG style Fallout justice that might be more likely to want to work with Microsoft would be Owlcat who are the guys that just put out the Rogue Trader game that is pretty good.
Just hire back the old Obsidian crew, offer them a truckload of money, and give them however much time they need to make it and make it well
Right? Not like microsoft doesn't have enough money to create a new studio from scratch. Will they?? Track record says no... but one can dream.
@@IamKienerMicrosoft doesn’t have that kind of creative energy. They don’t create, they buy. Same as all the others. Creativity comes from independent me given a chance by big publishers.
Obsidian still cares about their games, play grounded and you’ll know that. Easily the best and most unique survival game out there
BGS needs to get on a dev cycle. They should be releasing a game every like 5-8 years. I find it crazy a company can get away with releasing janky products every 10+ years.
I think inXile would be a good dev to make a Fallout spin off or remake the original Fallout.
I mean Tim Cain the Fallout OG is still involved with Obsidian on a contractor level.
Crazy how they'll still be on the creation engine lol
If they got all the licensing, and funding to do a remake, why not just do a sequel instead? It'd be more new vegas, modern, but fresh
Obsidian has both Avowed and Outer Worlds 2. I dont think they have the bandwidth to add a major Fallout project. Give it to InXile
Surely Microsoft will intervene in one form or another, whether it be more resources or taking delegation out of BGS and zenimaxes control
funny that none of the aspects you mentioned are about critics liking gameplay and that basically sums up gaming critics
People are weird man. They get obsessed with playable movies. Personally, I thought Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us were boring as shit to play. If I wanted a movie, I’d go watch a movie. Gameplay is the most important thing. Maybe it’s just me.
Obsidian hasn’t made a true open world game since NV. Everything is in zones and the zones are pretty small and uninteresting. Idk that I’d want them to make another fallout. I don’t think they’re the same ambitious team.
If I were to take a chance on a studio for a fallout game. I would say machine games. The gunplay would be good, hopefully they could nail an open world.
I would perfect the wasteland team making one or the old obsidian team makes one
The only reason fallout nv was the way it is is because they didn’t have to make the game. It was essentially just a mod of 3 and as such a lot of development time was spent less on actually coding and building their own thing and more on using fo3’s engine to create a bunch of little stories with branching paths. Same applies to fallout 2.
If obsidian were to actually make a fallout game for the base up it would certainly not be as good as people expect, especially with their more recent games being kinda mid.
NV was good because some dev who worked at nv were also worked for original two fallout games. Im not sure are they still working for obsidian
I wonder if they aren't out of ideas now that they have their Fallout-like franchise they use them on, and they made New Vegas.
Yes. In fact I’d prefer them to just own fallout moving forward and build the games on unreal.
With how long games take now we won't see a fresh new Fallout game before 2030, how long after 2030 is whats up for debate
Thanks
I don't care if modern Obsidian isn't on the same level as they used to be. I would rather take the risk, of getting another mediocre fallout game, than not getting one for another 10 to 15 years. Honestly I would be fine with giving Arkane the chance to make a Fallout game, and I've never liked any of their games.
Isn’t Tim Cain still a part time employee with obsidian
I'm more interested in seeing what Avowed will be like.
Yes please now
Fallout 3 and NV don’t work on AMD GPU’s since new drivers nearly 2 months ago. It’s tragic
Given the writing of The Outer Worlds, I wouldn’t hope they would make anything as good as New Vegas anymore.
NV runs fine
No it is not the obsidian of old so id be afraid of them messing it up 😮
There's no way that TroubleShot is talking about Obsidian's track record without even peering over the aisle to see the dumpster fire that has been Bethesda's last two games.
I don't think Fallout 4 was all that either, but it was better than what we got with 76 and Starfield.
NO
After playing The Outer Worlds, I can say for a fact that Obsidian is not the same developer we know and love from Fallout NV.
microsoft is about to fast track a fallout game asap lets all chill guys
Outer worlds felt more like a fallout 4 to me than fallout 4 did, it got the atmosphere, characters, loot systems, story, etc that fallout 4 just didn’t put as much energy into. I don’t understand why people say the outer worlds isn’t good, it’s a great game that clearly had an insane amount of effort go into it and even if the next fallout game is more of that then new Vegas I’d be 100% satisfied
I’ve been playing outer worlds and man is it leagues over starfield in the ways that matter.
If Obsidian makes another fallout then they should make a soft reboot where in Fallout should take place in an alternate timeline before Bethesda's Fallout 3 of after New Vegas
I havent been supremely evil in a video game for a long time, only obsidian can make a game that can handle the level of evil that i would like to be able to attain.
They would never allow it. The fact they.along with Amazon killed off NCR, Shady Sands and New Vegas in the show was a deliberate middle finger to what Fallout used to be.
Todd can't really do rpgs these days. He just wants Borderlands in a Vaukt Boy skin suit.
A remaster is probably out of the question as well. Word is they hate how 4 a76 keep getting compared to NV.
Yep
So long as they get Bethesda out of the writing business I'll be happy. Todd should just get his engine working before he decides to do anything else.
Some of us are waiting on the next iteration of outerworlds let alone another fallout.
YES.
yes they should, there saved 13 min of your time :)
you forget this is the same studio who had no problem releasing Skyrim 4+ times so why would they let Obsidian do something great
I would like to play a Fallout in 2024. Which one do you recommend?
It depends on what you personally enjoy and are looking for in games. If you want a more difficult, tactical and true to the words RPG then I would recommend the original Fallout 1 and 2. If you are more into 3d open world RPGs/action shooters then the 3d Fallouts are your jam, and for me you can't go wrong with New Vegas as in my eyes it is the best of the 3d Fallouts. If you just want an easy to get into middle of the road but still enjoyable for what it is, then play Fallout 4
1,2, tactics and NV.
Remake or remaster of FNV is the least they can do if not making another full-fledged game
