I was in a similar spot as a teenager, loving music, loving guitar but, not having anyone around that could really teach me in any way. I took a couple lessons with different teachers but somehow they didn't speak to me. I loved music so much though, and electric guitars that I ended up being the drummer in my first band ever because I had an afterschool job and I just needed to be close to that beautiful instrument. 3 years later, endless hours of lessons later, and I went to University for music, focusing on drums. After 4 years of university I got a job professionally and got to travel the world for the last 4 years playing on cruise ships and just loving my life in music. I've never stopped playing guitar occasionally but you've been a wonderful resource recently, helping me learn to play the funky 16th note stuff I've fallen in love with from the disco era-now. I got my first guitar at 14 years old and it was a cheap one with a built in amp. Everyone laughed at me and wouldn't teach me. They were just too cool. I've learned more from your channel over the last couple of months then in my whole life. I was a metal head and had electric guitars but now I'm just happy strumming chords on an acoustic. I got a light switch moment. So just learn the notes of the E string to navigate up and down the fingerboard. Works playing open cords with a capo and playing lead lines. Big help. Why guitar teachers don't show this? I think they want to stretch out the lessons for more money.

Great segment Eric, at 13 l was too shy to talk to girls so l new playing guitar would talk for me. It saved me. I learned stuff like "wipe out" and house of the rising sun, midnight hour. I played what l called organized noise and do to this day. Even real guitarists like yourself l can fool into believing l know what lm doing but l don't. Not even close. Since following your lessons lm finally getting some structure and purpose to my playing. Just finished "good bye pork pie hat" by Jeff Beck. Thanks for all your inspiration.

I was in the same situation. So I purchased a little booklet of Italian composers' sheet and got the library to request a record of one of their works from the resource library. I worked it out from there. I could play Turkish March before in time before I learned about chords as such.

Damn, as long as I've started learning guitar on my own i've been thinking quite a lot that solos require some sofisticated music theory. I don't know almost anything after 2 years of playing except chords and pentatonic scale. You've showed us how to manage using basic theory combined with a little bit of imagination and some manual skills. Thank you for your lessons !

I'm a really senior beginner and watching you video was very informative. My question is how do you know where to move on the fretboard for the power cord that corresponds to the major or minor chord being played. For example how do you figure out that an A major power chord would start on the 10th fret of the low E string and which other fingers belong where on what fret. Same here Eric. When I started there was no RUclips, no internet, no nothing. You got the album and you were on your own. I used to by two of the same albums for the songs we were doing. One to listen to and one to pick up the songs from because when you got done moving the needle back and forth countless number of times the albums were shot, And don't forget putting the turntable on 16 to slow the fast leads down. lol Miss those days though.

Eric, if you would tab out your example solos, like at the 5:56 point, even for 30 seconds or so, I'd be willing to pay for the pdf. I'm sure others would, too. Love the lesson. Some guitar teachers on youtube are great guitarists but can't teach. Some guitar teachers are great teachers but don't play so well. Eric is a great player and a great teacher.
Hi Retro! When I play the solos in my demonstrations, I make them up as I go, so in order to tab them out, I would have to memorize them, then tab them out, which consumes a lot of time, which is just not available. I have had a lot of RUclipsrs offer me money for projects, but I have to turn them all down, because I would take me away from my already crowded job schedule. Sorry about that.
Eric, thanks for the reply. Yep, I fully understand. I'm tabbing it out myself, very slowly, at .25 and .5 speed. Those same fret string jumps are very cool and really give the solo some feeling. Good stuff!

I was in a similar spot as a teenager, loving music, loving guitar but, not having anyone around that could really teach me in any way. I took a couple lessons with different teachers but somehow they didn't speak to me. I loved music so much though, and electric guitars that I ended up being the drummer in my first band ever because I had an afterschool job and I just needed to be close to that beautiful instrument. 3 years later, endless hours of lessons later, and I went to University for music, focusing on drums. After 4 years of university I got a job professionally and got to travel the world for the last 4 years playing on cruise ships and just loving my life in music. I've never stopped playing guitar occasionally but you've been a wonderful resource recently, helping me learn to play the funky 16th note stuff I've fallen in love with from the disco era-now. I got my first guitar at 14 years old and it was a cheap one with a built in amp. Everyone laughed at me and wouldn't teach me. They were just too cool. I got a light switch moment. So just learn the notes of the E string to navigate up and down the fingerboard. Works playing open cords with a capo and playing lead lines. Big help. Why guitar teachers don't show this? I think they want to stretch out the lessons for more money.

Great segment Eric, at 13 l was too shy to talk to girls so l new playing guitar would talk for me. It saved me. I learned stuff like "wipe out" and house of the rising sun, midnight hour. I played what l called organized noise and do to this day. Even real guitarists like yourself l can fool into believing l know what lm doing but l don't. Not even close. Since following your lessons lm finally getting some structure and purpose to my playing. Just finished "good bye pork pie hat" by Jeff Beck. Thanks for all your inspiration.

I was in the same situation. So I purchased a little booklet of Italian composers' sheet and got the library to request a record of one of their works from the resource library.
I worked it out from there.
I could play Turkish March before in time before I learned about chords as such.

I don't know almost anything after 2 years of playing except chords and pentatonic scale. I'm a really senior beginner and watching you video was very informative. My question is how do you know where to move on the fretboard for the power cord that corresponds to the major or minor chord being played. For example how do you figure out that an A major power chord would start on the 10th fret of the low E string and which other fingers belong where on what fret. How do I figure that kind of things out? Thanks for your help

Same here Eric. When I started there was no RUclips, no internet, no nothing. You got the album and you were on your own. I used to by two of the same albums for the songs we were doing. One to listen to and one to pick up the songs from because when you got done moving the needle back and forth countless number of times the albums were shot, And don't forget putting the turntable on 16 to slow the fast leads down. lol Miss those days though.

Eric, if you would tab out your example solos, like at the 5:56 point, even for 30 seconds or so, I'd be willing to pay for the pdf. I'm sure others would, too. Love the lesson. Some guitar teachers on youtube are great guitarists but can't teach. Some guitar teachers are great teachers but don't play so well. Eric is a great player and a great teacher.
Hi Retro! When I play the solos in my demonstrations, I make them up as I go, so in order to tab them out, I would have to memorize them, then tab them out, which consumes a lot of time, which is just not available. I have had a lot of RUclipsrs offer me money for projects, but I have to turn them all down, because I would take me away from my already crowded job schedule. Sorry about that.
Eric, thanks for the reply. Yep, I fully understand. I'm tabbing it out myself, very slowly, at .25 and .5 speed. Those same fret string jumps are very cool and really give the solo some feeling. Good stuff!
