Save your money and wait to buy a quality lift kit. It will save you in the long run and maintain your factory geometry. Also, running bigger wheels and tires puts more stress on the ifs. The necks of your front shocks are small and not as beefy as good coilover shocks which can handle the heavier wheel and tire setups. Save for BDS coilovers, ready lift bilsteins or icon coilovers or bulletproof suspension which uses icon coilovers.
As an owner of a small 4x4 shop I offer 3 options for a lift kit. Either spacer, spacer with preload, or coilover. I can install either one or two for the customer to test out for an extra fee. It's more often that a preload with spacer will be chosen to control the extra weight of the wheel and tire package if purchased at the same time. If only the lift will be purchased, it's just the spacer. Just a thought.

I've been super confused lately with in coil spacers vs top hat spacers recently and was curious if you know if they both extend your strut or is it just top hat spacers that extend's your struts down travel?
A top hat lengthens the overall length of the strut by adding inches to the top." It won't change the pre-load or ride quality. Coil spacers add preload to the spring as they're installed between the spring and top of the strut - forcing the truck up and creating a stiffer ride on the same spring. Coilovers replace the entire strut/spring combo with a longer strut/spring combo (think strut and tophat as one piece).

Thanks for the information Quick question I have 4inch lift Nissan Titan 06’ and want to go with coil overs but I’m being told I can’t because there isn’t any company that has a coil over for my specific truck specs. Any where you can help give me some suggestions or idea on what I can do to get a new suspension kit?
Do either of the methods affect your travel or ground clearance? I’ve heard that spacer kits don’t actually improve your off-road experience or give you more ground clearance and that they are an appearance vs greater off road capabilities like a complete coil over or strut replacement. Taking the obvious, stiffer ride for aggressive off-roading from a coil over, What else does it do that a spacer doesn’t?
Spacers give you more down travel and less up travel. A longer shock and spring setup will allow you to maintain up travel (that the vehicle was designed with) and give you more down travel, helping you in off road driving / over landing etc. You want slightly higher spring rates for offroading with more lift than stock, but it is really dependent on your GVM and GCM as to what those numbers should be. You don't really need longer shocks if you aren't lifting more than 2 inches (with a spacer kit). It can be prudent to install longer / taller bump stops with a spacer kit though, just to make sure the shocks don't get over compressed. Peace
I'm new to the truck scene, looking at a rough country 6" for my 08 Tundra, I'm just a broke college student so I'm debating whether I should spend the extra for those lifted N3 struts they offer, or stick with the spacer, what would you all suggest?? In the future though I'll definitely be looking at some nice coilovers, thanks for the info great vid! 👍🏼
Custom Offsets I should have included another question for you guys in my comment but it's not related to the struts or spacers haha, you guys are the best though so I figure you'd know, Ive seen a few things around suggesting that if you go over 3" of lift that it's a good idea to do a carrier bearing drop. I've also had people tell me it's a good idea to re-gear when bumping up to a 35" tire, I could deal with the power loss as long as i know it won't damage the vehicle, what would you all say about this? Thanks in advance 👌🏼👍🏼
I do have a question, I have a 2013 chevy silverado 1500 wt with over 186000 miles (am not the first owner (number 6)) and I am planning to eventually lift and level the truck to be about the same height as a 2013 2500hd silverado. would a apacer or coilover be able to handle the weight and abuse a snow plow on the front? It has the front struts and not the torsion bar that the 2500hds have.
My local offroad shop strongly advises me against using spacer struds, citing problems with stability and ball joints. How accurate is this? I see so many use it and have no problems - what are you guys take on this?
All depends, we've ran them on numerous vehicles for 5+ years with zero issues, any modifications like bigger wheels/tires/spacers etc will put added stress on ball joints/wheel bearings, to what degree depends on how you drive, what you're running for a setup etc!
Forgive my ignorance as im still trying to figure out whats best.. but with coilovers shouldn't you still do the diff drop, relocate the sway bar replace the knuckles etc? If so wouldn't you be better served, assuming you're 9n. A fixed budget atm, to get the spacer kit that comes w all that stuff and then Replace the spacer/stock shock combo w something better when you're able or they wear out?
jroll0410 definitely an option! A steel strut spacer will not “wear out” really, unless it gets so rusty that it’s looses its strength- but that would take ages.

Great explanation and recommendations. Thanks
I have a 6” lift on my 2022 Ram Rebel ecodiesel and it has the spacers. It has also upgraded 5100 bilstein shocks around. The ride is super rough! Why?
So spacers won’t cause any problems on the entire suspension anymore? Geometry save?
What about upgrading shocks on a truck that has a leveling kit
That's a good choice!
@@CustomOffsetsTV can you recommend a good set to use that won't break the bank but still do well
King or Fox!
Next video, block lift vs leaf springs??
I have that 6” spacer on my 2016 Silverado. I swappers out the OEM shocks to bilstien 5100. It rides ok on local streets. Seems good on highway but honestly just don’t like the look of the huge spacer. Imma drop another $1,000 and install the Vertex shocks in a few days.
So how the vertex compared to the 5100 with spacer? I have the 5100 with spacer and debating on switching to full coil over. Is it worth it?
2500 cheap coil over? Lol these for Bugatti truck?
Coils all they way !!!
Can you do a ball joint vs uniball uca pros and cons. In particular for midwest folks
We can take that into consideration 🤘🏼
Just bought the rc vortex so I’m hoping it’s worth it
Let us know how it was better or worse than the spacer 👍
Johnny G I’ve had mine for 6 months and they were 100% worth it ride difference was night and day adjust them to be soft and rode better than factory IMO thinking of doing a review actually since there isn’t much on RUclips about them
@@Gawjohnson / thank you Johnson for the reply... Definitely going to look forward to your review on The Vertex set up... Also, if you may add applications for 4wd & RWD if available, which I'm sure someone will ask later... Thanx' again 👍
George Johnson I would love to see a review on the RC Vertex coil kit, just saying lol. I’m torn between that kit and the BDS 6 for my 2018 Silverado. I do a little off roading and mainly on road. Sometimes pulling a trailer, so a honest review would be nice. Cheers 👍
I just want the height for the looks. Use 3" spacer (leveling kit) is ok? It is bad for my truck components? I have a 2022 silverado 1500 high country.
whats the difference between a $35 strut spacer and a $200 spacer???
It depends on what brand/etc. watch the video, it pretty informative! 🤘🏼
My question is can I add both? I have Ironman 4x4 lift kit and wondering if I can add the spacer lift kit to that.
Can you do a video on body spacers
How are the freedom offroad coilovers for a Tacoma?
I just want to add 3-4 inches on my 2003 Chevy s10 cause I am 6'1 and the gas pump is like to my lower thigh and I need to bend down to the side to pump gas. Also would it be better if I just get a 2 inch lift and then get my tires bigger.
Great video
Is one able to uses a spacer and add a air lift kit to it or is it one or the other ?
I've been super confused lately with in coil spacers vs top hat spacers recently and was curious if you know if they both extend your strut or is it just top hat spacers that extend's your struts down travel?
A top hat lengthens the overall length of the strut by adding inches to the top." It won't change the pre-load or ride quality. Coil spacers add preload to the spring as they're installed between the spring and top of the strut - forcing the truck up and creating a stiffer ride on the same spring. Coilovers replace the entire strut/spring combo with a longer strut/spring combo (think strut and tophat as one piece).
Can you use both?
Can, we don't recommend stacking kits though
@@CustomOffsetsTV I have the fox 2.0 and wanted to put a 3" leveling block above those with everything else stock. Is that something you wouldn't recommend?
I did the 3.5 leveling kit on my wife tahoe and the ride is horrible. Plus I have the stability track light on and abs light. I'm going to take off this coming weekend. GOD WILL
Most vehicles don’t recommend going over 2.5” level or else you’ll need to upgrade other components
It strains the suspension when over 2.5”
What’s good fuller
If we’re unsure on what would fit our truck from just looking at the website. Can we email you to get your input on if things we have in our cart would fit our truck?
Yes definitely! Our email is info@customoffsets.com 🤘🏼
Hi,Does a spacer kit mess with steering handling?
We definitely wouldn’t recommend trying to go off road or flying through corners, but usually if installed right it won’t mess with ride quality too much.
I bought a bilstine 6112 front coilovers strut and spring that can be ajusted to a 2 inch lift i was just wondering if i would get a better ride if i dont fully extende the strut leave it in the stock ride level and just use a 2inch lift strut block
Hey send us an email, our experts should be able to help you out in this situation. info@customoffsets.com 💪
So if I basically use my truck as a daily, very few times in off road, am i ok with a cheap lift kit?
Yes!
What is the purpose of a 1/2 inch pre loader on the bds level kit. Does it really help with geometry and ride quality when using bigger tires?
Depending on which level kit you are talking about, the description should say what the purpose is!
Custom Offsets yes it does. It says it helps with geometry and weight of bigger tires. But some say it’s all a marketing sales pitch. Just want to know if in your experience it works as intended.
I just went back to your video for the 2019 and up Dodge Ram 1500 3-1/2 leveling and lift kit with 2in lift in the rear a kid like that what would the price on that style of a kit for the Dodge Ram 1500 because when I get my truck really don't want to lift as much as I want to level the truck but I like that 2" left which well allow you to put a nicer Tire on your pickup truck
Email us at info@customoffsets.com so we can get you a quote man! 🤘🏼
@@CustomOffsetsTV I was just on your website it's the kit for $900 for the 2019 RAM and up it gives you three and a half inch in the front and 2 in in the rear and 2 metal brackets for your bump stops it was so easy to find it out now I just got to look through the rims and tires but the biggest thing is getting my truck I'm waiting for my friend the trade in his truck which is up you got to bring it in Christmas Eve for them to look it over and then we're going to purchase two vehicles at the same time for a better discount sorry thought if you were weeks before I go get my truck but you will be the first ones I call
Sounds good man!
Your opinion on the rough country coilover kit or is there a review video coming out soon ????
You can’t beat the quality for the price when it comes to rough country 🤘🏼
Can you order a strut replacement for a 6.5 zone lift kit? For a Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd.
Great video man!
Thanks for the video 🤙
I have a 2018 silverado with 15k. I want a 4 or 4.5 lift but with the same or better ride quality. What you think is better????
I have a 6.5 zone lift being installed and saw you in a video next to a truck with the same lift kit and curious how tall you are so I can try to picture myself next to it finished? Lol thanks!
Fuller is about 5 feet 5 inches
6.5 bds or zone 6.5 ??
Thanks for the information
Quick question I have 4inch lift Nissan Titan 06’ and want to go with coil overs but I’m being told I can’t because there isn’t any company that has a coil over for my specific truck specs.
If you’re on a budget the spacers aren’t a bad way to go. Both are good for the price man 🤘🏼
Custom Offsets That's probably what I'll stick with then, thanks! 🤙🏼
Wheel behind fuller right side?
I just wanna level up and still get a factory style ride
What did you decide to do?
Hey brother I am from India I need to lift my Hyundai i20 2014 version please suggest me a better option.
It has the front struts and not the torsion bar that the 2500hds have.
a coil over will always be a better option than a spacer.
Does the rough country coil overs have an adjustable ride height like some others do?
They do
Forgive my ignorance as im still trying to figure out whats best.. but with coilovers shouldn't you still do the diff drop, relocate the sway bar replace the knuckles etc? If so wouldn't you be better served, assuming you're 9n. A fixed budget atm, to get the spacer kit that comes w all that stuff and then Replace the spacer/stock shock combo w something better when you're able or they wear out?
jroll0410 definitely an option! A steel strut spacer will not “wear out” really, unless it gets so rusty that it’s looses its strength- but that would take ages.
Good day can I ask about shocks for pick what do you prefer for daily drive?
Fox or King!
Is my 2017 F-250 considered magneride ?
Hello, I have a '15 toyota tundra. It came with a pro comp 6in lift kit with spacers and stock suspension. I recently bought icon 2.5 coilovers and 2.5 piggy back rears. I really wanted to get rid of the front spacer and possibly rear block. With my new suspension it won't replace the spacer, ill have tonise it to keep the lift level. Is there any way I can get rid of the front spacer with my current purchase?
If I have a 6” RC lift and I wanna replace the coil overs what size / length do I need to look for?
Give us an email to info@customoffsets.com so our suspension experts can help you man!
Thanks for the video, super helpful.

What would you recommend for a daily driver on a newer Kia Sorento? Just want enough lift to pull up to a curb and not hit the bottom of front bumper.
That would depend how close it is now. You could do a rough measure of how much you need to raise it by parking next to a curb and comparing!
@@CustomOffsetsTV inch to 2 inches, I've noticed not all curbs are the same height.
Today's trucks discriminate against heavy set driver's is there a lift kit for the driver/owner, come on/customoff fit dis. With coil/springs, Install a spring/spacer/link/etc. on the steering wheel, help the rest of us really cause the manufacturers are really offsetting the drivers/consumers, I'm stupid for buying a f250.
