Interesting take on Apetbei. I, however, don’t possess that understanding. For me, there isn’t much of a distinction between being an Apetebi and a devotee of Ifa who simply is a female, regardless of the title(s) one holds. Of a truth, the Babalawo does all the duties that an apetebi does so let’s not put the divisive feminine twist on this- it has no place with Ifa. Perhaps the community definition of geared more for the un-initiated that finds herself married to a Babalawo- to understand the role she would take if she marries a Babalawo. Iwa-Pele is the foundation of Ifa devotee’s that love and worship in truth- to say that one can’t be an Apetebi because you possess an “attitude” feels problematic- I’m sure you didn’t mean to give that impression, but it can easily be misinterpreted that way. One can’t say they possess an attitude and can’t follow another, yet call oneself an Iyanifa. We all can do better with our choice of words. An Apetebi can divine in the absence of the Babalawo- sometimes with even greater clarity. Let’s be sure that we don’t allow the western societal customs to have us hating what we, admittedly, state that we lack clear knowledge of. Let’s not spit in our own face. Your presentations are thorough. please do a video explaining that the cultural context of IFA is based in community life as is most African culture. Many Nigerian scammers attempt to present an individual worship package dependant on one person...the scammer. if a reading yeilds the hand of Orula and a woman is single, widowed, divorced, etc. what purpose foes it serve. what is apetebi in that framework? there are millions of single african american women. thanx
