The bit about Pyramid head fighting the other monsters to stop them from keeping James from the truth makes a lot of sense. SH is inspired by Jacob’s Ladder. One of the big plot twists in Jacob’s Ladder is that the demons that Jacob sees end up being angels pulling away his memories so he can move on. Until Jacob accepts the truth about what happened to him they appear to be demons eating away at his life. Jacob’s chiropractor fights against those ‘demons’ during Jacob’s hallucination and eventually helps him accept his death. Pyramid head was mostly inspired by this character.
The audio of James killing his wife makes his actions seem more selfish. Hearing his wife struggle as he muffles her screams until she doesn’t respond makes me not respect him. The ending with him drowning himself is more fitting.

Holy SHIT dude. I’ve been playing this game and talking about it to people for 16 years now and every single time I look at a new video about it I discover new nuances to the game. For example I never realized the second pyramid head is manifested because James killed Eddie. It’s right there in your face simple but it’s so subtle that it flies over your head
I'm not convinced the second pyramid head represents Eddie. James killed Eddie in self-defense. Although he laments that he 'killed a human being', I think this scene functions mostly as foreshadowing (and a glimpse of the guilt / cognitive dissonance he feels about the murder he actually did commit). Symbolic symmetry seems to suggest to me that there's a pyramid head for both Mary and her alter ego manifestation, Maria. Finally, until the end we only see one pyramid head at a time, but there's no clear evidence that two pyramid heads acting independently were (or weren't) extant before Eddie's death. After all, they seem to be virtually identical, which also implies they have a common psychic wellspring: Mary /Maria. But who can say for sure? It's all very interesting and deliciously ambiguous to speculate.

The thing is, James didn't come to Silent Hill, but was already drowning in a car with Mary's dead body in it, and there are a lot of moments kinda proving that. For example, Pyramidhead leaving under the water when we fight him for the first time, also the fact that we have to jump somewhere deep down in prison location, where we can also hear water drops all the time. Also hotel location is flooded. And in hospital the water level rise as we progress throughout the story: at the very end water reaches around waist level. All these things may be stages of James drowning in reality that he sees in hallucinations. And its so fascinating that this theory fits into the story perfectly. But it may be just a symbol of James' mental state, as fire for Angela.

The prison represents where James thinks he belongs to be (and it also has a connected metaphorical layer of imprisonment by his own guilt as well). And there's certainly hints, which you mentioned, that strongly support the death by drowning. It also makes the most logical sense and is thematically the most satisfying ending. But I do think "prove" is just a bit too strong a word. Water can represent a lot of unpleasant things besides drowning (the flooded hotel may be intermingling a bit with Angela's nightmare world and James' own: he can see the fire, finally, that she sees everywhere, a fire that was presumably put out with water. It could certainly also symbolize his drowning, or both of these; it doesn't seem clear cut. Can Angela also experience bits of James' nightmare? We can't know, but it is interesting to wonder.) It is also around this time that he encounters a teleporting door, which seems to me to suggest his tether with life and consciousness is rapidly reaching its end (perhaps this is why parts of Angela's hell are increasingly perceivable to him - they are both nearing physical death in some other externality around the same time and both their purgatories are drawing to some kind of nexus?). It is this complex ambivalence that makes the game such an evocative and haunting classic.

Honestly. Find it sorta relatable in a dark way. Yea he goes there to kill himself after what he did. But the way the mind and psychology is so complicated he blocked everything out along the way so he just finds himself outside the town clueless, and mentally he finds himself making it up and heading to the town almost as if he’s just looking for a reason. And it becomes a journey for himself. Idk hard to explain lol.
The thing about Valtiel and Pyramid head is a little more complicated I think. I don't think it's saying that Valtiel literally is Pyramid Head. Notice it says that he ECHOES Valtiel. The executioners in the town wore red garbs in honor of valtiel. You can see a picture of them in the prison where they are wearing red hoods that resemble pyramid head's helmet. The executioners garbs would inspire the painting Misty Day, which would in turn inspire James to conjure up the image of Pyramid head. But it's just a thought. They made Valtiel AFTER Pyramid Head, so if they wanted there to be a connection it would have to be fit in retroactively the way Walter Sulivan was.

Pyramid Head has nothing to do with Cheryl and yet the Devs who made Dead by Daylight add them together in the Silent Hill DLC, when it should had been James instead, which was the original plan all along base on a concept art I found. It was only when they made a blighted skin for Pyramid Head that James got added.
Valtiel and pyramid head also share the exact same body model and textures just slightly edited. In the files for SH3, you can find an earlier model for valtiel where his textures are almost identical to pyramid head

Each character represents one of the outcomes James can get during this limbo. Save himself (Laura), die (Eddie), stay in limbo and torment (Angela).
Guy Cihi, James original voice actor, said that in an interview the In Water ending is his own personal canon. So to hear it from James himself just legitimizes it.
The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️🤷🏻♂️✌️

Silent Hill 2 didnt have to cult following that it has today, so likely theyve made the rounds ending up in OP shops which is where I found one around 2004 and thought nothing about it at the time. Ive made a short on my channel, but its due its own proper video, maybe when I have the skill in the near future.
I just beat the game for the first time about a week ago and thought I’d give this a watch. Great video! Also I do believe the labyrinth being fake has some weight to it since before that James drops down multiple pits that look pretty deep plus the well from before. It just seems weird that after descending as much as he did he’s on the lakes level afterwards. My theory is that all those pits are his imagination symbolizing his final descent before finally reaching Mary. I do think the labyrinth itself is real to an extent since like you said Eddie and Angela are there but not all of it is what it seems. Realistically he might’ve only dropped down 1 hole rather than the 3 or 4. Also I might be mistaken but I think there was also a really long elevator ride that lasted like a solid minute which is further evidence he should be a lot deeper than he really is. Just a little theory I could be missing a lot idk but like I said amazing video!

in the short series point pleasant there is this couple that reminded me a lot to James and Mary, he also killed his wife and he actually managed to bring her back but they are cursed, he strangled her to death and she dies everyday for some invisible hands strangling her again, just the way he killed her, I should rewatch the series.

How each one crossover? Eddie is likely to have been shot by the police. Following the shooting of the dog, Eddie became frightened and subsequently entered a state of panic. He was found by the police, and he made the mistake to point them with the gun. Angela probably at the hotel, she was looking for her mother that work there, but when she rejected Angela, she got angry, so she went to the boiler room, and set on fire the hotel, in that way both will be together. This explained the picture destroyed in half, at one side his father and brother, both abused of her, and both met her knife, the other side her and her mother, but together forever by the power of fire. In the case of James maybe he is the guy in front the TV, he ended his life in that way, don't forget his father is Frank Sunderland, who was at the army, or has gun at his house, because he was the manager of the apartments on Ashfield. The other option is the ending in Water, or the ending Rebirth, since Mary returned to life like a monster of the town. The trio has the same fate of Lisa, because she ended with her own life, Lisa got an overdose of white Claudia. Lisa also can't leave the town, like Angela and Eddie already proof. The monsters seems interesting, because PH could be a menifestation of a doctor, the useless doctors that can't help Mary, and James saw them just like butchers, but also people that can' understand his feelings, that explained the helmet. Also the PH are the ones that hurt Maria over and over. But the truth is, these doctors didn't end her. The nurses are clear too, James can't have physical contact with his wife, so he created a vice, he started to drink, go to night clubs, and this behaviour created pleasure of him, but also guilt. He started to fall in this vice, and saw women with lust and desire, especially the nurses when he visited Mary. Seems to me that James started to have fear to the hospitals as well, but also the personal, and other patients, all this was a feast for Silent Hill, in the manifestation of doctors, nurses, patients in cages. The town also exposed his dark side, nightclubs, drinking problem, and BDSM tendencies. The mannequin is Mary, probably she was a tailor, that explained her phrases about "moths eat clothes". A tailor or a fashion designer has a lot of mannequins. James remember when Mary did those dresses, and she used a mannequin to measures. The PH abused mannequins, that's a manifestation of how he felt that doctors were abused his wife with the pointless treatments.

Pyramid Head has nothing to do with Cheryl and yet the Devs who made Dead by Daylight add them together in the Silent Hill DLC, when it should had been James instead, which was the original plan all along base on a concept art I found. It was only when they made a blighted skin for Pyramid Head that James got added.
Valtiel and pyramid head also share the exact same body model and textures just slightly edited. In the files for SH3, you can find an earlier model for valtiel where his textures are almost identical to pyramid head

The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️🤷🏻♂️✌️

I actually managed to pick up James' Jacket a few years back. Just by unbelievable luck.
Ive seen and heard about the jackets about 20-ish years ago. Silent Hill 2 didnt have to cult following that it has today, so likely theyve made the rounds ending up in OP shops which is where I found one around 2004 and thought nothing about it at the time.
Ive made a short on my channel, but its due its own proper video, maybe when I have the skill in the near future.
I just beat the game for the first time about a week ago and thought I’d give this a watch. Great video! Also I do believe the labyrinth being fake has some weight to it since before that James drops down multiple pits that look pretty deep plus the well from before. It just seems weird that after descending as much as he did he’s on the lakes level afterwards. My theory is that all those pits are his imagination symbolizing his final descent before finally reaching Mary. I do think the labyrinth itself is real to an extent since like you said Eddie and Angela are there but not all of it is what it seems. Realistically he might’ve only dropped down 1 hole rather than the 3 or 4. Also I might be mistaken but I think there was also a really long elevator ride that lasted like a solid minute which is further evidence he should be a lot deeper than he really is. Just a little theory I could be missing a lot idk but like I said amazing video!

I have yet to document this anywhere else, but I timed how long it took to go down the stairs of the labyrinth, the average slope of stairs, and the average walking speed of a person. The math works out to a 666 foot distance down, purely on the stairs.
in the short series point pleasant there is this couple that reminded me a lot to James and Mary, he also killed his wife and he actually managed to bring her back but they are cursed, he strangled her to death and she dies everyday for some invisible hands strangling her again, just the way he killed her, I should rewatch the series.

A game of Eros and Hades, this game has topics like: marriage, child abuse, abortion, physical dysmorphia, bulimia, adoption, euthanasia, affair, drinking problems, BDSM, repression, self-destruction, obsessions, temporal amnesia, psycho behavior, doppelganger concept, purgatory journey, but the main plot is The Others.
That's the truth of these characters, similar to what happen to Lisa on SH1, like Lisa they didn't know this reality at the beginning, but seems like Angela and Eddie understand that before James.
How each one crossover?
Eddie is likely to have been shot by the police. Following the shooting of the dog, Eddie became frightened and subsequently entered a state of panic. He was found by the police, and he made the mistake to point them with the gun.
Angela probably at the hotel, she was looking for her mother that work there, but when she rejected Angela, she got angry, so she went to the boiler room, and set on fire the hotel, in that way both will be together. This explained the picture destroyed in half, at one side his father and brother, both abused of her, and both met her knife, the other side her and her mother, but together forever by the power of fire.
In the case of James maybe he is the guy in front the TV, he ended his life in that way, don't forget his father is Frank Sunderland, who was at the army, or has gun at his house, because he was the manager of the apartments on Ashfield.
The other option is the ending in Water, or the ending Rebirth, since Mary returned to life like a monster of the town.
The trio has the same fate of Lisa, because she ended with her own life, Lisa got an overdose of white Claudia. Lisa also can't leave the town, like Angela and Eddie already proof.
The monsters seems interesting, because PH could be a menifestation of a doctor, the useless doctors that can't help Mary, and James saw them just like butchers, but also people that can' understand his feelings, that explained the helmet. Also the PH are the ones that hurt Maria over and over. But the truth is, these doctors didn't end her.
The nurses are clear too, James can't have physical contact with his wife, so he created a vice, he started to drink, go to night clubs, and this behaviour created pleasure of him, but also guilt. He started to fall in this vice, and saw women with lust and desire, especially the nurses when he visited Mary.
Seems to me that James started to have fear to the hospitals as well, but also the personal, and other patients, all this was a feast for Silent Hill, in the manifestation of doctors, nurses, patients in cages. The town also exposed his dark side, nightclubs, drinking problem, and BDSM tendencies.
The mannequin is Mary, probably she was a tailor, that explained her phrases about "moths eat clothes". A tailor or a fashion designer has a lot of mannequins. James remember when Mary did those dresses, and she used a mannequin to measures.
The PH abused mannequins, that's a manifestation of how he felt that doctors were abused his wife with the pointless treatments.
I remember on my first playthrough of Silent hill 2, on the scene where Pyramid head looks like he’s uh…. You know, I remember my dad entering the room right as the cutscene started and me having to immediately skip the cutscene. I didn’t know what true fear was until that very moment 🤣
