Snufkin's Spring Song | A Moomin song by Tove Jansson | Translated and covered by Henry Kathman

- Snufkin's Spring Song (or Snusmumrikens vårvisa in the original Swedish) was a song written by Erna Tauro and Lyrics by Tove Jansson for the music book "Songs from Moominvalley". The song was one of many tunes composed made in this collaboration, and would later be rearranged in 2019 by Emma Klingenberg for the Moomin Park located in Hanno, Japan. Like many pieces of Moomin related media, there were never any English translations produced for these songs, so I took it upon myself to translate the lyrics myself and have reached out to the Wright Step to help make the instrumental and mixing of the song. Apologies in advance if my translation isn't perfect, but I hope you enjoy this slight change of pace as we move to the cold months of winter.

Aww thank you! I've never had my singing properly engineered so it was a bit of a shock hearing it turn out as well as it did.
I’m endlessly fascinated by the relationship between Snufkin and the Moomin Family. In many ways they’re similar, but they differ so heavily in one specific area. The idea of home. For the most part, Snufkin is a traveler. A wanderer who values nature, travel, new experiences and solitude. The Moomins meanwhile are the very definition of a cozy, tight knit family unit. They value Moomin Valley, the place they call home, and are known far and wide for their hospitality. They have stability, something Snufkin isn’t particularly concerned with for the most part. That’s why it’s so interesting to me that Snufkin and Moomin are so drawn to one another, and it’s nice to think that our favorite green hat wearing musician can always visit and be a part of that family whenever he returns each Spring. I... could be overthinking this though. Who knows.

Oh yeah, Swedish is a really different language, so it was a little bit of a challenge to properly translate. Perhaps I'll improve if I do more of these songs ;)

Lovely, just lovely. I stumbled upon the 90s series uploaded to RUclips and I fell in love with the world of Moominvalley. None of the cartoon reviewers I've watched have even ever mentioned this gem of a series, let alone the comics and books! Thank you for your singing, arrangement and translation, it's so wonderful.

Just make sure you switch out the word "insect" for "creature". That one got a little wonky in the translation. Also be sure to let me know when your medley comes out!
@@HenryKathman im not sure when the medley comes out I already got all lot of songs throughout the years, and I'm planning to make my own spring tune for crosskin at some part of the song. I don't know how to properly switch insect to creature since first I don't have the instrumental version, 2nd I might not use the entire song just the part the transition from the next song.

Excuse me. There's another song about Snufkin. It's titled "Snusmumrikens sång". Featured in the album "Min egen Mumin". You could cover it in English.
