I love to see the beautifully diverse shades of biracial/multiracial people. Until recently I had always identified myself as a black woman and growing up in the 1980's it didn't matter that your skin tone/hair texture was different, you were BLACK. It seems that with the advent of social media giving people a voice mixed individuals are figuratively being jettisoned from the black community and now being told "You are mixed'.
+Nona Yabuisness I absolutely did adhere to it and roughly everyone outside of family reinforced it and it stuck! My mom is black...Caribbean/ American.
***** Telling mixed people that they are 'mixed' and not 'black' seems to be a relatively new thing. I'm 44 and while I was growing up if a mixed person even dared to call themselves anything other than 'black' they were quickly ridiculed and reminded that they were BLACK.
***** Of my 44 years on this earth, I can say that is my experience. Whether or not that is someone else's experience and reality is entirely their own.
***** As I read your comment again, I believe we may be misunderstanding each other. What I am gathering from your comment is: There has always been a time in history across the board when black people considered and called 'mixed race' individuals ' mixed race'. Are you saying that black people have never 'corrected' a 'mixed race' person if they were to identify as 'mixed race'? Am I correct in making the assumption that you may have never seen/heard of an instance where a biracial/mixed race person identified as bi/mixed race and was corrected with ' No,You're black!'
If anything, it's better to put other, as it undermines the nonsensical, 18th century construction that is racial classifications & encourages it's long-overdue obsolescence from modern society. Only racialist-cultists care about race at this point.
Thank god I live in Canada my children will not have to go through this. They will be biracial. I'm black and my bf ( soon to be husband) is White so our children will be the best of both black and white!
There Is No Such Thing as Race, Race Is A Social Construct, A Social Leash If You Will That We Agree To Wear! I Took Mine Off Some Years Ago! You Should Do The Same! "Over the past 500 years, we have been taught by an informal, mutually reinforcing consortium of intellectuals, politicians, statesmen, business and economic leaders and their books that human racial biology is real and that certain races are biologically better than others..." ROBERT WALD SUSSMAN His statement is SO True!!! I remember being asked all the time, Why was I so much darker than my sister, did we have the same daddy, why my sister had greenish, or sometimes bluish eyes (they'ed change colors some times)?! But both of my parents would be looked upon as black, it was my great grand parents and grand parents that would be "Multi-ethnical" (German, Euro-American, Native American, Black/Native American). My siblings and I were different shades and hear textures and would change some according to the season (amount of sun)! Alhamdulilaah, the Creator is Magnificent and does what HE Wills!!!
I grew up Asian and White around mostly Hispanic people so I was always incredibly confused and never fit in with anyone no matter what lol. Most of my friends are mixed Hispanic and something else and Black and something else.
I always new that I did not fit with any one group. Im ok with that. I never wanted to. When it takes a long story to explain what race you are, its just easier to tell em what they want to hear. I am the best me that I can be.
I am biracial and proud.
I like that they featured a white appearing person. I would like to here more about their experiences.

I'm a mixed person and don't care if I have to put other on a form.
