This really resignates!! Us biracial people have our own unique narrative- and an advantage- we can see both sides because we’ve lived through it. Thank you so much for sharing!

Although the racial and biracial identity discourse differs slightly where I live in Canada, this talk really resonated. Being biracial, my "colours" have some what cancelled themselves out, which created a more convenient, less conflicted worldview. Being "colour brave" means not making excuses for others, or myself.

It sucks being biracial. I'm half white and half Latino, and I've always felt that I'm not white enough for white people and I'm not Latino enough for the Latin people because I am not fluent in Spanish. It's not great being in the middle.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm half Puerto Rican and half Kittishian. I'm not fluent in Spanish, which brings hate. Those people who ask why cant we speak Spanish are probably in a different boat than us. Some advice: Try to embrace both sides, and love yourself. I personally think being mixed is an honor, so keep a positive mentality👍🏼

I have the same racial makeup as you, and I feel similar to you. I'm going to be honest. I've had great misgivings about the idea of having biracial children because of my experience, the experience of not fitting anywhere. But I think that could have been helped a lot if my parents had been up to the task of raising a biracial child. Having biracial children is not a bad idea, but parents need to rise to the challenge.

My father who I didn't know is Pakistani, my mother English where I was born n raised 70-80s. I got worse than no love from the Muslims (not Muslim enough) and a 'mixed' reception from the white English people(but definitely not white enough for some).
Teachers were w*nkers, projected their worst insecurities. I'm not complaining, I'm still lucky to be born in UK whatever shade.
F weakness and playing the victim. I took my chances as they came. And now live a very nice life in the sun.

@@j.s.7335 being/having biracial kids isnt hard, it's confusing but they get used to it. Everyone else needs too as well. Their grandma is light, and Grandpa is dark. Same on their dads side. For a while she thought the light grandparents were married and the darker skinned were married too. They understand now that theyre older. Under 6. And their own parents, are light skinned mixed(me) and darker native(their dad). They love their curly hair, and are grateful to just have a family. Regardless of their skins colors.

I don't think the speech was about being biracial. I heard a lot about trying to make self change. I have an ideal if your white and your wondering what can I do. For one you have to be brave and leave your white world. The fathers of our nation had to be brave and so must you. You know there's a lot of injustice in education. Start a intercity non profit to help kids after school. There are lots of neighborhood with nothing in place for kids. That's where you start.

It pains me to say this, however; mixed race people as a whole are so woefully inconsequential and irrelevant regarding the issue of race, this talk being no exception. It's just more banal and hackneyed talking points, we've all heard before.
You would think mixed raced people who rave about the supposed benefits of coming from two "cultures", would have substantive commentary on the subject. But with the exception of people like Jesse Williams it's almost never the case.

I guess America will become this big ole melting pot of people like Brazil-- the so called "place of paradise", whose race mixing has left the people of color on the bottom, with the white Brazilians at the very top, still in control of everything even so with all the mixing. There is nothing wrong with different humans marrying one another, because its been going on for thousands of years, though it will not solve the mental illness of "racism".

Girl, you need to get over yourself! You are not that unique or special. In 1492 Spanish conquistadores descended upon the New World, the Americas! They mixed with the natives and created a new race! The Spanish conquistadores were also mixed race, Celtic, Arab, Moor, etc. Furthermore, they brought along African slaves to the New World. Thus, Latinos are all mixed race. Latinos are fusion of all the different races. In 1925, Mexican philosopher, José Vasconcelos wrote an essay entitled, La Raza Cósmica. The actors George Lopez, Mario Lopez, Eva Longoria and Adrienne Bailon all publicly shared their DNA results. It's amazing to see historical facts PROVEN with SCIENTIFIC DATA!
