Thanks for your detailed review. I bought this machine and I'm very pleased with it after losing patience with my vintage Singer. The Alfa does seem to jam quite easily but only because of my mistakes in sewing with the foot raised after going over a lumpy seam.
Hi Hugh. Glad you like your Alfa. I don’t know a machine that won’t jam if you sew with the presser foot up. If you ever find one, please let me know. 😀
Thank you so very much for this wonderfully instructive video. I have been looking to upgrade my poor old machine, which cannot cope with the repairs to thick layers of my husbands work overalls that is regularly demanded of it. After seeing you easily sew through 12 layers of canvas without any difficulty, as well as the finer stuff like satin and jersey, I am convinced this is the machine for me! I have subscribed and I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks again and best regards
Hi Samantha. Thanks for your comment. Yes it's a great machine for a fairly low price. If you can push your budget a bit more then the Husqvarna Emerald 118 is even more robust with an electronic foot pedal for a smoother, more responsive experience. It also has an automatic needle up/down function for ease in pivoting and far more accessories as standard. I'm only mentioning it because the 118 and the whole Husqvarna range is on offer at the moment prior to a price rise in April so it's a good opportunity to get one for a bargain price. However, the Alfa is a versatile machine and a lot of fun to use. Thank you for subscribing.
Thanks for your comment. It’s a great wee machine for a fairly small budget. It has most of the main features. Hope you enjoy it. And yes I should get commission LOL. From Husqvarna too, following my reviews of the Emerald 118.
Thank you so much for the video!!! I was considering to buy the Alfa practik 9, but I also had in mind the Singer HD 4423. I know the Alfa is less expensive, but do you think it can pull it off with multiple layers of fabric like the Singer? Thank you very much in advance for your advice!!!
Glad you asked. My personal opinion of the Singer HD models isn’t favourable. I’ve seen quite a few in my studio brought to classes and they are extremely loud. They also vibrate a lot. The worse thing about them is that they aren’t ’heavy duty’ as claimed. Singer isn’t the same company now and the quality is not the same as the pre-1980’s machines. I was amazed how much fabric the Alfa could sew, as you can see from the video. but if you need an HD machine, consider the Husqvarna Onyx, a pre-loved Husqvarna Emerald 118 if you can find one or an original vintage Singer. The 201 model is a classic.
@@artisanstitch thank you so much for your response and your advice!!! This singer HD is then off the table. Since I'm looking for something reasonably priced, versatile and portable I think I'll go for the Alfa. The singer 201 is indeed robust and sturdy, but I think thanks to your video my choice is made :) thank you so much again, and congrats for your lovely channel!!!
