I’ve eaten at many steakhouses all over the country and Murray’s is still by far the best steak I’ve ever had. I grew up in Minnesota and spent the first 40 years of my life there, so I ate there many times. I moved to Naples, FL 2 years ago and by coincidence we have Capital Grille and Flemings here. Neither compare to Murray’s in my opinion, but they are both good.

I was there one night when cars were triple parked outside. A fire inspector came by and told them he would shut them down because of the cars outside and the amount of people in the restaurant and bar. The maitre d' had two large "gentlemen" on either side of him and told the fire inspector that he would have his legs broken if he tried to enforce the fire code. He left and did not come back. That same night, a mafia guy was having a birthday party for his girlfriend and she wanted some of our carrot cake. We gladly offered it up and he bought us another dessert. There were four big guys who stood facing out from his table the entire time. What a great place. Somebody at our table asked about a salad and the water said, "We don't serve any sissy food here."

All their steaks are cut to order in-house by a butcher. They have been serving their 40 oz. Porterhouse Steak, named the "Logger" since 1941... it's named after the loggers who would come down and order the biggest cuts of steaks. The absolute best without a doubt in SoCal and the wild and scenic Kern River isn't all that bad either and hard to ignore while you're sitting outside on their covered wooden deck overlooking the river and bridge... I won't because I know how to cook, also I went to The Culinary Institute of America upstate New York state 1984.Some other residents can be extremely expensive and I avoid them to. The Gibson narration that the cattle are “corn fed for 120 days”. They must be butchering them at a very light weight. My dad feed cattle all his adult life and you normally figured a year to get from a 500 lbs “feeder” to a 1100 - 1400 lbs “finished” weight. I’ve got a feeling the narrator has never seen a live bovine in his life. Also, there is no such breed as “Black” Angus. Angus is an all black breed. There is a Red Angus sub-breed which is genetically the same as Angus. If you put Angus meat next to Red Angus meat you will be unable to tell the difference.

Couldn’t disagree more. Been going to PL for 50 years now. Tried every steakhouse in NY, steak-to-steak, none compare. Now if you want to quibble about potatoes, shrimp, salad and fish, well, you have a valid argument. I’ve taken dozens of people over the years and they always talk about it as the best steak experience they ever had. Only Wolfgangs comes close, but he was a PL maître d’ for 40 years, so he learned something.

    • @No85Limits

As a New Yorker, I agree that it has fell off.a bit in the last 20 years or so, def not the best in nyc, let alone the world. It's just an old "big name". If you've only had chain steakhouses like texas roadhouse or outback or whatever - then yea you'll of course love peter lugers but if you're a big time steak eater... it's good, but it's not the best I ever had.
      My fav 3 in nyc:
      Gallagher's
      Del Frisco's Double Eagle
Keen's (gotta try the famous mutton chop at least once)
      Honorable Mention:
Old Homestead - really good place too, but takes a back seat to the others for me)
I also used to love Spark's but like Luger's it fell off a little bit. It's inconsistent these days. Sometimes I would go and it was amazing. Other times I'd go and the tenderness was off or flavor was slightly off. It just got annoying after a while.

The livestock industry produces more greenhouse gas emissions than the transportation industry. Cattle are also one of the main contributors to agricultural land degradation and water pollution, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reports. If converted to CO2, the livestock industry produces more greenhouse gases than all cars combined," the FAO report states.
In terms of CO2, the amount of greenhouse gas emitted by livestock worldwide accounts for 18% of total emissions.
Increasing demand for milk and meat is the main factor leading to this situation. In 2001, humans consumed 229 million tons of meat. But by 2050, according to FAO projections, this number will double, reaching 465 million tons. Milk consumption will also increase from 580 million tons to 1,043 million tons during the same period.
"If you include emissions from land use, the planet's livestock are responsible for 9% of global CO2 emissions, but the share of other emissions they produce is much larger." , FAO confirmed.
Specifically, cattle produce 65% of nitrogen oxides (N2O). This is a gas that is 296 times more capable of absorbing solar energy than CO2 and is largely generated from animal manure.
Livestock also emit about 37% of methane (CH4) - which is 23 times more heat-trapping CO2 - and 64% of ammonia (NH3), the main culprit of acid rain.
Not only that, the demand for food of livestock is also a factor leading to an imbalance in the ecosystem, degrading the quality of agricultural land and polluting water sources.
