He basically knows whats gonna happen, all of this was him being sent into the past, the end twist is that he knew the protagonist, and was sent from the future by the protagonist to do all this
When Neil said "See you at the beginning" he might have meant it for the movie too. After all the movie loops to Neil going back in time to the opera to save the protagonist.
He's come a long way from being Edward. He has become something more, something far better. Never would have thought he'd join the list of becoming one of the best Batman!

In my ideology this movie deserves Oscar beacuse the inversion and time manipulation makes this movie outstanding and the hard work and high thinking level of Christopher Nolan in this script so
He should have been the lead. Other than Nolan finally wanting to cast a non-white lead and that guy being Denzel's nepo baby I can't see a single reason for this casting decision. Pattinson, Debicki and Caine blew him (the protagonist) out of the water in every scene...
