    One thing I noticed Christina doing is lifting her back wheel before it got to the end of the lip. This is why she isn't going nearly as high as Eric. You need to have your legs fully extended at the point where your back tire comes off the end of the lip to get the maximum height off the jump, essentially doing as big of a bunny hop as you can at the precise time. This takes a lot of practice and commitment, but it will be significantly easier to clear jumps, it can save you if you don't have enough speed for the jump, and it will help you carry more speed for the next one. I very rarely see jumping tutorial videos point this out.

      She compresses way to much into the take off as well which is why she was casing a bunch of the jumps. Needs to let the bike flow

      It's refreshing to see someone who can improve, and is a lot more relatable to those of us who aren't great at jumps

      I was looking for this, I knew she was slightly off. It looked to me that she want used to how steep those lips were. I know I do the exact same thing when I first get to the jumps, takes a while to get that movement down when you are used to trail jumps. I would have loved to see a clinical side on view of him jumping as a comparison.

    This is unbelievably eerie, I wasn’t riding my Dirtjump bike in the last 5 years, but I took it out this weekend!
    The first day I was just cruising around town, trying some manuals, „jumping“ down the sidewalk, riding down a few staircases and working on baby Bunnyhops.
    The next day I went out to the little forest of my town where there are 3 laughably small jumps in a bad shape but I dare to hit them!
    These are small tables and it took me a few try’s, but in the afternoon I could make it all the way into the landing and I even felt comfortable doing baby whips on the last jumps.
    Man it felt like being 16 again!
    The fun I had was unbelievable!
    Fast forward to today and Pinkbike brings out this Video... GET OUT OF MY MIND!

    • @rolux4853
      @rolux4853 3 года назад +1

      If anyone is wondering about my Dirtjump bike, it’s a yellow Singlespeed Bergamont Kiez from 2012 with a Rock Shox Argyle RCT!
      Really a nice and fun bike, even if it felt super awkward riding a bike with Dirtjump geometry after all these years, haha.
      On the first jumps it felt so unbelievably unstable in the air, compared to my Nukeproof Mega 290.
      While it might seem obvious to everyone who ever spent some time on a mountainbike, that a big enduro rig with 29ers and a hell lot of travel is way more stable than a small 26“ hardtail, it nevertheless caught me totally of guard how different that little Dirtjump bike felt.
      Call me a weird dumbass as much as you want, but to me it’s as different feeling to my Enduro as a Roadbike.
      The low standover height, combined with the very low front end, short handlebars and super short wheelbase definitely is something I need to get used to again.

    Going to the dirt park or pump track is like hitting balls at the golf range. You can make it as difficult or as fun as you’d like it to be. One things for sure though you need to get into some sort of headspace to progress - why I use the golf analogy - if you think you can just Willy nilly into a jump no focus and all gusto then you’ll eat dirt quicker than you’ll finish this sentence. So bring composure to the park try and stay focused at times because you don’t want to get hurt or bail because you’re only focusing on everything going on rather than your own line or moment. Why you see pros usually do a sort of ritual before they drop in - it’s a mental check before the gusto

    Thanks for the great tips! My biggest issue is that I've never done any dirt jumping and I never know what to do about speed (too much/too little). My best guess is to land flat/short for a bit to get used to it and then speed up? Any advice on that would be appreciated because that's one of my bigger worries holding me back. Thanks!

    • @pinkbike
      @pinkbike  3 года назад +5

      Yep for sure! With tables you can roll the entire jump first to get used to the take-offs then start popping a little at a time. Once you clear the first jump with no pedalling it's usually a good time to add in jump 2. Try not to go full laps until you've cleared the previous jumps and controlled speed -Christina

      Start small and accept that all jumps are different. Especially dirt jumps in my opinion. The lips can feel very different from one to the other so start with jump 1 and when you've fully cleared it and have the speed for jump 2 then step it up. Stay respectful and treat each one as its' own unique jump -Christina
