The defeat of 300 Spartans in Thermopylae battle, was a perfect morale shift among the Greeks. One year later the Greeks won the battle of Salamis against Persian army. The Greeks were united at this battle. The Battle of Salamis (/ˈsæləmɪs/ SAL-ə-miss) was a naval battle fought between an alliance of Greek city-states under Themistocles and the Persian Empire under King Xerxes in 480 BC. It resulted in a decisive victory for the outnumbered Greeks. The battle was fought in the straits between the mainland and Salamis, an island in the Saronic Gulf near Athens, and marked the high point of the second Persian invasion of Greece.
"Μολὼν λαβέ" or "come and get them" was historical quote of Leonidas.
    Greetings from Sparta 🤝🇬🇷

This movie, 300, tells the story of King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans who defended their homes against the Persian army during the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. Gerard Butler is superb as King Leonidas, he's a great Scottish actor, I just love the way he shouts 'THIS IS SPARTA!' Love his Scottish accent in this, seems to suit it somehow, I read that he actually toned his accent done a bit for it! He's actually from the town of Paisley, which borders Glasgow. 300 is superbly filmed, the cinematography, so atmospheric, the Spartans were a tough lot weren't they (a bit of an understatement!) and this film portrays that brilliantly. Other great historical films are Troy (2004) with Brad Pitt, Gladiator (2000) with Russell Crowe and not forgetting the wonderful Braveheart (1995) with Mel Gibson. Thanks so much for reacting to this amazing film, George, you always do such fantastic reactions and I love listening to you! All the best, take care and keep safe.😊👍

There is a reason why you see this movie in a dark/yellowish screen format. Also why you will see large, strange animals, people, and a huge Persian King. It's BC the narrator is telling the story to the Spartan army and they see it in their imaginations as such. A few points of facts, King Leonidas had actually sent two messengers back. These messengers were accused of cowardness. So one committed suicide while the other proved himself in battle. It took the Creeks over a year to push out the Persians. Lastly, the Immortals always maintain a force of 10k soldiers, so if one was killed others would be recruited to replace them so as to maintain the allusion of the force never being dwindled.

Well, yes and no. The movie is based on the comic-book of the same name with VERY similar artistry. The comic-book of course is based of the original battle.

I realize it's a graphic novel but even so I always wondered why embellish an already amazing story. I really like your explanation of the messenger telling the tale to his BCE audience and this is where their imaginations go. Thanks for the new perspective

11 months later to be exact. (The Battle of Plataea 479BC) Revenge was sweet and only a few thousand Persians managed to escape Greece. Herodotus writes that were upto 500,000 Persians. However some stories told of upto a million, historians seem to lean on the 500k mark. Leonidas and his men lasted a few days before Ephialtes sold himself to the Persians for the secret path behind Thermopylae and Leonidas. Today , in Greek , Ephialtes means - Nightmare. There is a statue & memorial plaque where Leonidas had his last battle. Emotional stuff.

If you don't like "negativity" laud a good film not a bad one.
You claimed Snyder was a visionary. so go ahead & justify that claim that he is on the level of Kubrick & other true visionaries...like Scorsese, Hitchcock, Leone & Coppola or modern visionaries like Spielberg or 90s to present visionaries like Fincher, Nolan, Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Del Toro, Aronofsky
Go ahead put 300 & Justice League against all their greatest films & let's compare.
Snyder is not a visionary, he is a less successful michael bay.

You've mentioned a lot of fantastic films there, classics! For instance, Zulu from 1964 featuring a very young Michael Caine in one of his first major roles. It's a brilliant film and so well done, the battle/fight scenes are incredible, the cinematography is wonderful and of course it's based on a true event. The Omen trilogy is amazing and other classics are of course Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and Bridge over the River Kwai (1957) and so many more you've mentioned. May I just say that George has already reacted to The Thing (1982) and also Predator II (1990) great films and great reactions! I have to say the car chase sequence in Bullitt (1968) with Steve McQueen is superb! Cheers! 😊😊

Hey man, this was a real event, and you should see the sequel for the 2nd half of the story (300: Rise of an Empire). It's just as epic as this one. BTW, I also thought that the child survivor was a boy, but "it" seemed a little effeminate, so I finally looked it up and lo and behold, it was a girl, which makes a lot more sense (the Persians were more likely to spare a young girl, who was not old enough to rape). Anyway, her name is Alexandra Beaton and this was her 1st professional acting gig. She was born in 1994-1995 (unsure) and is absolutely BEAUTIFUL now.
