I believe The Batman will spark a very important discussion regarding film criticism.
I read a review on Rotten Tomatoes by a professional critic that calls this movie 'humorless'. My question is, so? How is that a criticism and not a choice of the film's tone?
Also, we cannot criticize a movie as 'too fast' or 'too slow' without any context. I have seen people have a single line critique, like, 'Blade Runner 2049 is too slow', again, how is that a critique?
I feel Martin Scorsese was right when he called MCU movies as Amusement Park movies and not cinema. I saw people complain about The Batman not having full blown action of sorts, and instead being a 3 hour detective movie.
We've become addicts to these superhero tropes of the third act of films being blind fighting and skybeams and just metal clanking 20 times per second, that we have forgotten movies altogether.

Majority of critics are used to the same boring ass Marvel formula of mindless action and childish quips every 5 mins. There are always biased against DC movies and any form of artistic interpretation dosen't sit well with their minds. These people ultimately assume that all comic book movies need to be light hearted and 'fun' to be enjoyable, they don't give a damn about the plot at all.

I think for hardcore Batman fans like us, there couldn’t have been a better Batman movie. The characterisation of the year 2 Batman and Bruce Wayne is perfect. I loved all of it. The pacing was a minor issue for me but I can easily ignore it because it justifies its runtime. I believe the length can be the only turn off for mainstream audiences but I’m really happy that Matt Reeves didn’t compromise on his vision to cater to Non-Batman fans. Robert Pattinson is hands down the best Batman but the best Bruce Wayne is still Christian Bale for me.

After years and years of some awesome Batman films, it feel like we finally got the definitive version of the character that's totally inherent of the psychological aspects of it. The best thing was how it represented Gotham, like some kind of diseased substance slowly poisoning the very integrity of the law and order of the place and how it takes a toll on its inhabitants.
Couldn't have asked for a more apt Batman movie. Reeves just nailed it with the character arc.

The best thing about this movie is that it stays true to what it intended to be. It wasn't going to be a fun action flick featuring a superhero like what MCU brings nor it was a movie which had many angles to explore with a two hour of run time like most of the DCEU movies.
It was like watching a mystery/thriller movie with a twist that we had a Super Hero doing the investigations then a cop.

This movie definitely had such moments aplenty, but we NEED to stop chasing quick highs and cheap thrills and just let the movie draw us in.
ALSO, please let's talk about the AMAZING sound design of this movie!! "Something in the Way" just gave me goosebumps!! Music is just sooo important to draw the audience into any movie.

I get it, it's his own words coming back to accuse him in a way but so what? The context / foundation for those words were completely different for batman. Not sure why people think this is masterful by any stretch. Yes, most of the audience understand that batman receives a revelation that he needs to be more. Some of us aren't impressed.
Before anyone says "You don't get it", I understand that the message of the film is essentially about finding redemption through failure. Once again, and this is brilliant because...?

Yes he did understand that he still needs to grow but not in the way you think. You see batman never really fit into the trope of typical goody two shoes SUPERHERO and he himself never considered himself as one, he thinks of himself as an entity that instills FEAR into those who do wrong, a necessary evil who needs to exist to create a future where someone like the BATMAN is no longer needed and the reason why the scene is impactful and brilliant because the time movie is set in, he still hasn't fully comprehended his role as BATMAN and that scene made him realize he just can't continue to beat up bad guys, he needs to instill FEAR into them, if he really wants them to stop. The monologue during the rescue scene by Bruce made whatever i just said pretty clear so did you really watch the movie. @@hasansyed8945 That's my point actually. For someone who, according to popular thought identifies himself as vengeance and has been doing so for 2 years, it doesn't strike you as odd that the halloweeners didn't know who he was? I also find it a stretch to believe that in these first 2 years of being batman, beating crims to a pulp, that at the same time he's developed a relationship with Jim Gordon, a cop.. Sorry, but I'm not close to being convinced that everyone knew him as vengeance, especially with the kind of antisocial low lifers who were following the riddler on the dark web.
This is actually a minor point though. Accept the fact that other people, who do understand that this is batman year 2, aren't as impressed at the redemptive theme of the film.
Relax, not everyone loves this film. Visually stunning, however the characters lacked depth. Yes, I do understand the character and the réalisation for the need to be more. Gordon who actively sought out Batman as he realised that Gotham and it's justice system is pretty rotten and Batman was someone he viewed had the ability to change that.
Coming to the first fight scene my previous comment makes it pretty clear that while Batman has been recognised by the people of Gotham including the criminals they don't really fear him. And do you really think a gang leader who likes beating up people for fun and uploads it to social media would outrightly recognise Batman knowing fully well that it might discredit him as a leader shows you don't understand the actions of even a minor character.
And the antisocial low life you refer to, even if they were "anti-social" would never really watch any news or anything related to Batman huh?, someone who beats up criminals, shows your point really lacks logic. And who gave you the idea that this movie follows a redemptive storyline for Batman. The comics and every batman movie ever made has established the fact pretty well that Batman is a character who doesn't need redemption of any kind🤦. The only reason we are biased toward him is because the trilogy is the epitome of superhero movies, and he is carried by Nolan's plot and Heath Ledger's acting. He is good, but pales in comparison to this performance of Pattinson. As for the warehouse scene, that's true. Batfleck was the best iteration of a physical batman, but Battinson is the overall package. I love that he keeps getting hit in fights which shows that he is still a beginner in the field and lacks experience, which adds a lot more weight to each fight scene. TDKR's right scenes were a joke at times, one such case was when Bale just punched the guy in the helmet at the end of bike chase and he just gets knocked out unconscious. In the warehouse scene, the goons attacked simultaneously and Batfleck needed to takedown the same guys, especially that Asian dude, a lot of times. I don't see why he would take time out of his personal duty as Batman to go play Huge Hefner at a fancy cocktail party full of elites. I came to see the Batman not the "pretty boy" Bruce Wayne and i got exactly what I wanted. Love the details of the scars on him when he changes and the constant black eye make up. The atmosphere, mood and the tone of the movie was really excellent. Some of the action scenes were also fantastic. But, I did find some issues with consistency and plausibility of the plot. Wasn’t it too easy for Batman to track down Seline Kyle (who is supposed to be really smart and covert in her operations) not just once but twice or thrice. Riddler, is outed by an anonymous caller tip! Really? Is this how a mastermind killer gets caught? Hanging out at a coffeeshop. Lazy writing. Also, how convenient to make the new mayor survive the dozens of sniper assailants? And what actually did the assailants really do? Too easy for the writers to make them incompetent. I find many more issues with the plot. Unfortunately, the final third of the movie was pretty weak. But, overall a decent watch. P.S. The background score was excellent.
Edit: Also, Riddler who had been so thorough with his plans in killings chooses to send a physical mail to kill Bruce Wayne? Seriously? And, even when the bomb did go off it couldn’t even dispatch the person who literally had the bomb in his hand? Wtf!?

The problem is that the audience has just grown too accustomed to the tone of the MCU movies. They want some cheesy one-liners every 5 minutes, and expect the hero saves the day by the end. DC movies like Man of steel took a more grounded approach and were panned at the time of release. The day DC starts to replicate what Marvel is doing will be the day I'd stop watching comicbook movies altogether. They are kind of keeping the whole genre less repetitive.

As an ardent Batman fan I felt Batman 2022 is a very good movie, but not a masterpiece like some say. Matt Reeves got many things right according to comics, the Atmosphere, the feel of Gotham City, Batman's investigation, Selena Kyle, Penguin, Corruption, Poetic screen play, in short it was a different experience. Which felt good. However I felt story line neither that gripping not the Riddler that much terrifying. Bruce Wayne's charecterization was an under developed one. More than anything the action seens were pretty average to me except Batmobile chasing scenes. For me warehouse fight scene of Afflick in Batman vs Superman felt very superior. Though Pattinson delivered great performance he didn't look as formidable as Afflick in Batman's suit
