    • @DemonKnight85
      @DemonKnight85 Год назад +6

      Very Very premature statement to make. At the moment, Reeve's iteration of batman hasn't even grown that much to make a statement like that. Where Nolan excels with Batman is in showing the audience a full chain of events into the creation of this character, and how an early childhood trauma shaped him into who he is. Nolan does a great job displaying the heroic inner nature of this character, even though externally he looks the opposite. Nolan also did a flawless job showing the audience why he is called the Dark Knight. The sacrifices he has to make, even in the face of being victimized falsely. Yet Nolan's Batman unwaveringly does so without hesitation. He's unbreaking in his pursuit of justice and I dare say Nolan elevated the character past what comic books have offered. Due to the ongoing nature of comic books, Batman's journey can never really change, where as Nolan's story allowed the character's arc to close out on a happy note where he was able to overcome his trauma and finally obtain some measure of happiness in his life.
      I'd say Nolan understands the character very well.

    • @crisp3891
      @crisp3891 Год назад +30

      @@DemonKnight85 It's not a premature statement to make. Christopher Nolan is not some massive Batman fan. Which he even admits himself. And it shows in the depiction of the world, Bruce Wayne specifically, and especially Gotham. He certainly likes the idea of Batman, but never actually captured the world and essence of the character beyond a surface level. Outside of Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan's iteration of Batman is conservative, dull, and lacking in capturing the character from the comics. It's very, very mainstream in it's depiction and also as a film in general.
      You're overrating something to the point where it's kind of cringe (as do most folks). Christopher Nolan did nothing great with Batman. Despite being a good filmmaker. Those movies are elevated by good performances and Jonathan Nolan's solid writing.

      I completely agree - at least based on The Batman

    • @DemonKnight85
      @DemonKnight85 Год назад +1

      @@crisp3891 Although I think we would all prefer people who are extreme fans of something to pursue working on it, that doesn't mean in itself that someone doesn't have the ability to understanding something more or less than another person. I know Nolan wasn't as much a comic reader as his brother, but I'm sure he obviously had an interest in the character. I will agree with you that Reeves, and more so Tim Burton probably realized the city of Gotham more in line with the comics, but Nolan wasn't going for that anyways. So it was never on the table.
      I definitely don't agree with saying that he doesn't capture the character. If anything Nolan sprinkles a heavy dose of Dennis O' Neil and Neil Adams Batman version, with a hint of Frank Miller. Reeves seems to be going heavy Frank Miller. Both represent accurate depictions of Batman. But to say that "Nolan did nothing great with Batman" is just a silly comment to make. Borderline delusional really. And all because his movie was grounded in reality doesn't make it mainstream. Mainstream usually involves watering down material to appease the largest audience possible, and to be honest with you I don't think that idea ever went through Nolan's head once while making his movies. He just had a really good idea for adapting Batman and he executed it flawlessly.
      And don't write off Nolan's movies as just good acting performances and writing. Acting as if directing, cinematography, editing, and musical score weren't part of the success. Actually when you get down to it pound for pound. I'd say any of the three Nolan movies had a better screenplay, editing, music, and directing than Reeve's Batman. With two of the TDK movies also having better Cinematography, as done by the great Wally Pfister.
      Keep in mind, I don't want to give the impression I think the Batman is a terrible movie. It certainly had good elements. It excels in showing that dark and gritty, and oppressive atmosphere that does well in Batman's universe. But it has a long way to go to really flush out the character of Batman/Bruce Wayne. It's very singular in it's adaptation at the moment of the character. I think it's important to show glimpses of and remind the audience of the things Bruce Wayne endured and how he's haunted as a character. This new Batman movie didn't really do that. Just very monotone and the length of the film and writing of the character certainly didn't help with that. Bruce Wayne/Batman is a very three dimensional character in nature. This new version is anything but that so far.
