there's no way a standard computer screen, which emits THREE colors of light, could help you determine if you're a TETRAchromat... Tetrachromats by definition can see a fourth primary besides red, green and blue. Computer screens are only capable of producing red, green and blue lights. The fourth color that tetrachromats can see is not produced by standard computer monitors. Distinguishing between slightly different shades produced by the three trichromat primaries might be useful in determining the sensitivity of a normal trichromat eye's sensitivity, but it doesn't indicate anything with respect to tetrachromacy.
Non tetrachromas can see from 1 million to 7 million colours. This is more of a test if you can see 7 million with 3 chromas. Even prophoto rgb won't help tetrachromas lol. A tetrachroma would have to develop a colour space and monitor that uses 4 primaries over 3.

So actually tetrachromacy is only expressed in women. When men have the gene, it often makes them colorblind. Might wanna look into that if you’re a man.
Exactly. Not to mention if I look closely at my screen at any given time I can see the image of my keyboard and message window that has been burned into the screen, which made the stripes section much harder.

My Dad's color blind and my mom's from a line of Asians with messed up eyesight therefore I have both genes but I have 20/20 vision and I often argue with people about what color things are. How does that work?
It all depends on what genes you inherited, and also what your body decided to express. You may have also had some crossover, or a mutation, in the DNA when the gamete(s) that made you were produced, giving you enhanced color vision and just better overall eyesight than the rest of your family.
brightness isn't the only thing that matters, and yes, screens to matter in tests such as these. Saturation comes into play huge on these tests. Me and my friend have tested this video, on my phone a mac laptop and on our 4k tv screen. Each time different results. Don't believe me, pull out your laptop, it's not that difficult! :)
He is saying that after you watch the video once you know what is what. While you are saying you could clearly see the difference with different computers/screens. Either he is being thick headed or he thinks you were actually taking this like a test.

I'm doubtful of the validity of this because of the hardware and software limitations of the video formatting and my phone screen, but I am really good at determining colour differences in my everyday life and am usually the first to notice when something's colour doesn't "look right". So I might look into getting a proper test eventually.
It is literally impossible to prove tetrachromacy through an online test due to the limited color possibilities of computer screens (all other electronic screens too). Congrats, you didn't immediately assume you're part of the 2% of women who are tetrachromatic because buzzfeed told you so
Amazingsofiaisnotonfire ! Same. I doubt I'm one because I see solid colours and apparently you're not supposed to if ur what they say u r. Also, hello fellow phandom member
I haven't done the test, nor do I plan on finishing this BuzzFeed video, but I like to think that I may be rare just to feel good about myself. I may or may not be the only man that is tetrachromatic, if women are the only ones. But I do see the multiple colors within a color. (Looked at my white door and saw reds and pinks and yellows and browns.)

Screens don't have to have RGB, but because those are the only color's people see, all colored screens are RGB. Tetrachromats can't see ultraviolet unless they have there lens removed but anyone who gets there lens removed can see ultraviolet, also ultraviolet light over time would burn you're retners making you blind.

This is true. In fact, color tests using computers can't even show you colors that people with normal color vision can see. Even the best monitors are limited to about 77% of the Lab color space (what the average eye can see). Kodak once developed a specialized color space for photography that reaches 90% of Lab color space plus additional colors humans can't see, but no computer monitor exists that can display it.
This is cool and all, but you can’t test tetrachromacy on a computer. a screen doesn’t have a wide enough range of colors to display to actually tap into that. Look it up if you don’t believe me

100% correct - I was tested for Tetrachromacy in 1987 in Belgium during a mass test. I was the only one ( much to the surprise of the female technicians) to be able to see all of the blue patterns during a Ishihara test....
@@universenerdd A mutated male chromosome has been identified that causes male tetrachomacy. ( Part of the human genome research projects going on around the world) This is very new research. Needless to say, it’s extremely rare in males but it does exist. It mimics the female mutation on the chromosome required for tetrachromacy. Mutations are part of the natural process as evidenced by blue eyes - these originated in Scandinavia about 10,000 years ago and have now spread across the planet.
To be a tetrachromat you need to have two different copies of a gene that sits on the X chromosomes. It might be possible to have this gene translated to an Y chromosome, but it would be extremely rare and AFAIK that has never been documented.
Being an artist wouldn't make a difference in how many cones your eyes have. If an artist is colorblind, they're still going to be colorblind after training. If a person has three cones, they're still going to have three cones after becoming an artist.
It wasn’t a test for color blindness, it was a test to see if you are tetra chromatic, which means you have four retina cones. It probably just means you’re average.

i literally couldnt tell the difference in any of them lol Edit: i just turned it to full screen and i could see the differences in all of them. i guess smaller screens are not good for seeing colour lol
I dont have tetra(blahblah). Test 1: 2/5 Test2: 4.5/5 (i only saw two stripes on the last one instead of 3) Test3: 4/5 I dont know what this means but probably im just average or maybe see a little more than average and less than tetra people.

You do not have a functioning yellow cone in your eyes. Functioning tetrachromacy has only ever been documented in one woman, and all it does is allow her to more easily differentiate similar shades of yellow. Dormant tetrachromacy, on the other hand, occurs in 12% of women, and is the same gene responsible for male protanomaly (a type of red-green color blindness)
I am too. I have 5 cones. I tried to describe to my friend a colours that he cant see and told him “when you mix that two colours you will get blue” He was shocked because something like that even exist.
amblyopia here. I lost sterio vision when i was a year old. :) as a result I have never seen 3D. In order to nagivate the world around me, I developed the ability to see more colours than the average person. What you might perceive as a solid purple sweater, for example, I see as a sweater made up of about 10 different shades of purple, mauve, lavender, and even grey , blue or green! My world is a fantastic rainbow!
Thanks Jael. Being able to see the extra colours replaces the abilty most folks have to see depth or what is commonly called 3D vision. When i step off a sidewalk, i know intelectually that the sidewalk is higher than the street but for me it looks flush with the street. Because I see more colours, my eyes zero in on the subtle shading differences of the shadows and i am able to know that there is a step or a slope. It is hard to explain lol but the same holds true for everything around me. Walls, tables, chairs, you name it! Instead of seeing them in 3D i see the colours
Aaron Slaven Depends what you mean by "new". If what you mean by new is that the colour is unnamed, it's quite easy! I'll make on right now, Missagistic blue, a shade of blue between Ariel and Cyan blue! However, if you mean a colour group (blue, yellow, orange etc), it's not impossible, but rather extremely hard.
None of you do. I got the same, and tetrachromats are so rare, that I bet none are watching this video. It is a super low percentage of people that have it. Sorry, but this is BuzzFeed just trying to make everyone think they are superhuman. Also, this is inaccurate, as computer brightness can vary.
It's probably just cause of whatever screen you're using. I watched it on my computer and I got 5/5 on everything but then I showed it to my friend on my phone and my score was completely different
@common man There are different types of colorblindness. They could have different cones missing/nonfunctional. Colorblindness can make some variations of color easier to see than those who have "normal" vision.
The fourth cone that tetrachromats have is actually just yellow, tetrachromats don't see "10 times more colors" they can just distinguish the difference between a yellow that's a mix of green and red, and the actual yellow wavelength. They aren't magic, they just have a yellow cone.
You do not have a functioning yellow cone in your eyes. Functioning tetrachromacy has only ever been documented in one woman, and all it does is allow her to more easily differentiate similar shades of yellow. That others can’t see. Like how bees can see ultraviolet. There are more colors than what we see and tetrachromat just sees more then the average person.
Only one documented case exists and we can't prove or disprove her claims
Nicholas Bryant What do you mean? About 12% of women are tetrochromats
i didn't ask
Alpha_ZeroTM Well the world doesn’t revolve around your questions
100% correct - I was tested for Tetrachromacy in 1987 in Belgium during a mass test. I was the only one ( much to the surprise of the female technicians) to be able to see all of the blue patterns during a Ishihara test....
Do you see bright colours in dim light too?
So you don't have tetrachromacy... Got it
@@universenerdd A mutated male chromosome has been identified that causes male tetrachomacy.
This test must be highly inaccurate. I am colorblind but I was able to see every single one of them...
I couldn't make out any of them and my eyesight is fairly average
Nerv Rulz it's because it has nothing to do with the actual colour but more the shade so u had a better chance anyway
what does colorblindness have to do with this?
Just because your color blind doesn't mean you can't tell different shades of color apart, it just appears as a different color.
Nerv Rulz wut if ur suppa speciql
I got all of them right but I feel like anyone could tell the difference
So am I really that special
No
You're special to me❤
lenabobena well from pic, I think we'd all say ur basic as they come
I only got half right 😅
well there were three where i could not answer
lenabobena Dood I did horrible what's wrong with my eyes
Well I don't think I'm a tetrochromat
My computer is just super bright lol
Edit: for all ya people out there
I meant vivid
That doesn't mean anything
It's not about your screens brightness, it's about the amount of colors your screen can show
We can build it
5/5
But I'm an artist so I doubt it counts
WeebSlayer lol me too
Same bro
Being an artist wouldn't make a difference in how many cones your eyes have. If an artist is colorblind, they're still going to be colorblind after training. If a person has three cones, they're still going to have three cones after becoming an artist.
Same
SAME 😂😂
Test 1: 0/5
Test 2: 2/5
Test 3: 2/5
I have concluded i am color blind. :/
Jacob Gonzalez it was testing for super color vision.
It wasn’t a test for color blindness, it was a test to see if you are tetra chromatic, which means you have four retina cones. It probably just means you’re average.
If you look at some of the other comments, it have acutally more to do about your screen than if you can see them or not. I dont have any problems with cololrs irl, but i got around the same as you because of my computer screen xD
I actually am colour blind and I got;
Test 1: 2/5
Test 2: 5/5
Test 3: 5/5
Nick Perry different types of colorblindness
I did amazing! If i did bad then i would declare myself legally blind because i already can't see
I only missed 1
HI FELLOW ARMY XD
I got everything right, even though I'm a male (that biologically can just have 3 cones or less)
men can have four it's just less likely ur statement is false dude
@@aireyverse how do you test yourself irl
@@taelovebot9253 if everything you see looks saturated, usually when you look at a leaf you see multiple colors

Hound Life Vlogs yes I know
Hound Life Vlogs no, i read something about guys haven’t worst color vision than girls so maybe that’s it
I’m I cant
I genuinely could not on several of them and I am not colorblind and have 20/20 vision.
i literally couldnt tell the difference in any of them lol
Edit: i just turned it to full screen and i could see the differences in all of them. i guess smaller screens are not good for seeing colour lol
i had like 3 wrong, i guess im not that special
silvia I got that too but that's still really good
April_Eliza its average
same here
YOU ARE SPECIAL TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!
Me too
tetrachromacy can’t be measured on computers bc computers can’t display a wide enough range of colors
yes 10bit per channel screens can with RGB back lights
Me knowing im colourblind but i still take the test
at least I’m not the only colorblind person that tried this
Having the two different colours with the circles on top kinda ruins the legitimacy of the the test.

@@izzyoaksofficial it's not wrongly spelled, color is just the american spelling. Everyone else spells colour
Edit: nvm i missed the joke sry

I dont have tetra(blahblah).
Test 1: 2/5
Test2: 4.5/5 (i only saw two stripes on the last one instead of 3)
Test3: 4/5
I dont know what this means but probably im just average or maybe see a little more than average and less than tetra people.
FINALLY I HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT ME!
Olivia Park same
Olivia Park not that special... I’m pretty sure a lot of people got this right sry
Olivia Park me too
ChillGaming - Minecraft And More!
That's OK
I just like knowing that there is something that is unique to me. Because me and probably many others don't think that they are that special. Even of this is common, it still makes me feel better about myself
Olivia Park You arent special at all.
I am a tetrachromat BUT IDK if im sure since it would depend on how our device show colors.
You do not have a functioning yellow cone in your eyes. Functioning tetrachromacy has only ever been documented in one woman, and all it does is allow her to more easily differentiate similar shades of yellow. Dormant tetrachromacy, on the other hand, occurs in 12% of women, and is the same gene responsible for male protanomaly (a type of red-green color blindness)

amblyopia here.
Video starts at 0:00 thank me later EDIT: HOLY BAJEEZUS THANKYOU
Thank you very much! You helped me a lot, because I didn’t know when the video started.
RUclips Dude you’re the real mvp

Thank you so so so much! I really appreciate it!
I can see more green and blues
this just depends on what phone/monitor/brightness u have
its impossible to think of a new color...
Vantablack? Darker than a regular black
I did 2 test:
1) On LG 34UC79G-B (IPS ) = 100% correct.
2) On Moto Z Play (sAMOLED) = 45% correct
i can see the difference both on my phone and monitor and my monitor is tn panel mobile is samsungs7

Tetrachromacy is rare, it's unlikely that you do.

The fourth cone that tetrachromats have is actually just yellow, tetrachromats don't see "10 times more colors" they can just distinguish the difference between a yellow that's a mix of green and red, and the actual yellow wavelength. They aren't magic, they just have a yellow cone.
Okay but my question isn't answered. IS THE DRESS BLUE AND BLACK OR WHITE AND GOLD?!
