- Botswana, land of the Kalahari desert and the elephant highway. After receiving a new rim in Zambia I crossed the Zambezi river into Botswana. Within a few kilometers I had already seen dozens of elephants. Carefully and respectfully, I cycled amongst them until I reached the Makgadikgadi salt pans. A surreal, otherwordly place to be cycling and camping on. I don't think I ever felt so remote as there.
On Ngami lake I experienced the life of fishermen, who make a living between the hippos. Then I was ready to cycle into Namibia, at least that is what I thought...

How in god's name can you even get sleep while hearing lions roar in the background
One of the best bikepacking channels out there, similar to the legendary Iohan Gueorguiev. Amazing drone shots and focus on nature with really well fitting music. It’s so easy to get immersed in this kind of video and you finish the video feeling so relaxed. Really great stuff, keep it up.

These videos are so damn good! Im a big fan of bikepacking and DIY adventure documentaries and these are some of my favorites. I would say they're up near the top w/ the See the World series Iohan did. I notice some of the same aesthetics, spirit and even some of the same songs. These videos should have far more views and followers
The drone compositions are great. (I hope dji are giving you some sponsorship). You have a good eye for it - and a good ear for the music. The landscapes, the people, cultures, wildlife, sunsets and sunrises and camping sites are so nicely captured and narrated. Really immersive videos, but in this one, the contrasts between the white sands and the vegetation looked particularly incredible. I just wish you wouldn’t ride one handed downhill while filming!

The starkness of Botswana has its own beauty. Watching I alternated between wanting to experience it and doubts that I would have been able to accomplish what you did. The big upside is, no hills.

Fantastic drone footage of the elephants 🐘 a great film to watch 👍 the plastic bag the army gave you from the Rat Pack lol its used by putting cool drink power in filling with water tie a knot at top shake it up put a small hole in the bottom drink the drink at least thats what we did with them 35 yrs ago before mobile phones existed 😁

Nog steeds een super mooi avontuur! Ik geniet van je beelden. Was wel een beetje bezorgd, omdat er best een lange periode tussen de vorige video en deze zat! Het editten zal wel lastig zijn. Waar ben je op dit moment, want je was in oktober afgelopen jaar in Botswana? Ik kijk alweer uit naar de volgende, hartelijke groeten! Niels, Was wondering where you had got to as hadn't seen one of your videos for quite some time. Can't understand why I missed this recent video when you posted it over a week ago. Glad yourare still with us. You are either very brave or completely mad. Respect to you. You are living life to full. Thanks for showing such beautiful places and scenery that I shall in all likelihood never visit. I don't think I could wild camp like you in the bush with all that big game roaming around.
Why did your bike require a new rim? I thought it had disc brakes?

My rim had a very big crack, which was going to break if I continued cycling with it. Nothing to do with the brakes. And yeah, I guess I'm a bit of both, brave and mad

just curious, how much have you had to spend on bike maintanence? Like chains, cassettes etc. How many miles are you getting out of your drivetrain?
I would guess a few hundred euros for maintenance (tires, brakes, cassettes, chains, etc) I guess I did about 5000km with a chain

if this is mid 2022 and you are heading to South Africa this is not a place to camp in the bush under a tree or even cycle on the roads RSA is extremely dangerous and the simplest things are unsafe you are very likley to be attacked in your tent
