with all due respect masking and transferring is incorrect ...with this method u will hav too much of wastage in lasting area and your proportions might nt stay in place. but I m happy that you are sharing your skills!!!
This tutorial is totally not about this, but....! There is few methods and it is one of them and it's 100 % correct. I'm taking into account for lasting allowance the thickness of midsole and quality of leather and anyway you should make the final corrections after the first prototype.
You welcome to show me your way, I always love to learn new things.
The people you are trying to teach, like me, don't really care that much about lasting allowance. I have wasted a lot of leather on skimping on the LA, I now finish and attach my inner sole to the last before I tape and create the pattern. ( if the finished upper doesn't reach the stronghold...now that is wastage!)
+Jay Shriver The idea behind the whole pattern making is to create patterns with less wastage when it comes to leather as they are costly. When you are at a stage of professional pattern maker you will understand the importance of interlocking as this is an important aspect to saving leather from wastage. Anyway appreciate your ideas. Skimping is tough job and needs lot of pieces unless you master it. Keep trying new methods or create new ones.
***** At first sorry for my late reply..Agree with the method you are trying to explain but with taping tight on last and removing in a slow direction will make the pattern more fit on the last during lasting of upper. As the stretch is less on the tape and it doesn't expand. I would have shown you those skills but unfortunately I am very shy to do videos and stuff.on you tube. But would love to share my views just message me.
Thank you for replying Sveta. How many layers of tape do you recommend? Some say 3 layers. Being new to shoemaking I taped my last but when I added the insole I didn't have enough lasting allowance! - so I wasted a lot of good leather.
