CHEAPEST Volume/Expression Pedal on Amazon - Sonicake Vexpress Demo/Review

  • In this video we are checking out the cheapest and smallest volume/expression pedal I could find on Amazon. This is the VExpress by Sonicake. This thing works really well, especially for the price, and it's very small so it won't take up much room on your board. It also is completely passive and doesn't need any batteries or power to work (although there is an active version as well)

    Old vid I know but thanks for posting this. Shows that the thing works as a wah control with a modeler just fine (and gave me hope to keep fiddling with my modeler until I got it to work as it should). Many people diss this thing but they apparently don’t know how to calibrate it/set it up in the software.

    Here I am watching the video to double check if I hooked it up right to use it as a 2nd expression pedal to control a volume Block in Helix, but then you reminded me it can function as a standalone volume pedal. Thanks again!

  • @GuitarFood67
    @GuitarFood67 Месяц назад +1

    To clarify something: On Helix Floor unit, you can use either a TS or TRS cable, but you will need to open the Exp Pedal up, and lift the 'Ring' portion of the output jack. This will eliminate the silly 0-100-0 sweep thing it will do otherwise. This would be true with most all Exp pedals I believe.

    I have one question however: the M-audio ex-p pedal sort of works with the Line 6 M5 - it limits the range of wahs and volume only going up to say 90% of maximum, i just wanted to check that the Sonicake worked using the whole range 0-100% with your Helix?

    Hi, did you use a TRS cable with the HX Stomp? Thanks.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Год назад

      You can use a TRS cable or a TS cable. It’s been a while since I did this video so I cannot remember which one. But I believe you just need TS to assign it to exp 1 or exp 2, so you can get a splitter and go TRS to 2 TS and use it with another expression as well

    • @felipeignacio3017
      @felipeignacio3017 Год назад +2

      In my experience buying one, connecting the pedal with a TS cable does work but troughout the range it registers 0%on the heel position to 100% at the middle, and back to 0% in the toe position. With a TRS cable it works like you would expect (how it did on the vid)

    Hello Sir ! Mine is having little bit trouble or maybe do you have some advice for me to do..i run into HXFX..i used it for wah..when i push the expression all the way up which is under 6% showing on the paratameter the block will be off,and on again in above of 6%..need controled it softly and carefully to make it the block always on..

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  6 месяцев назад

      I’m not quite sure I understand, but to turn on and off the block, you’ll need to do that with something else, not the expression pedal. The expression pedal is to control the level of the fx (wah in this case).

    • @dimplamen
      @dimplamen 8 месяцев назад +4

      I was having the same issue with these pedals - the solution is a simple and reversible modification. You have to open the pedals and lift the middle ("Ring") connector at the output port so it doesn't make contact with the jack.
      The problem is the Vexpress pedals are designed to work with a stereo / TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) cables and have 3 connectors for the output jack. However, in order ot connect two pedals to the HX Stomp you need to use a "Y" cable that has TRS at the HX Stomp end, and mono / TS (Tip, Sleeve) at each pedal. So you end up with two of the connectors (Tip and Ring) touching the same piece of metal causing the range weirdness.

    Cool find. I notice from the Amazon listing it has a 10K pot, which is perfect for many expression pedal situations (like the Stomp). Not sure how that compares to what most volume pedals use. Were you using a TS or TRS cable for expression mode?
    BTW, for a straight, full sized expression pedal that is even a little bit cheaper, and also works well, there is the m-audio EX-P (also sold as the On Stage KEP-100), which sells for about $30.
