Suvannakhet across from Mukdahan province of Thailand Tourists mostly visit northern laos Pate(France)=Khao Jee(look like grilled sticky rice of Laos and Isan) in Vietnam call bánh mì and in Cambodia call pangpate(French colonization)
It's a beautiful city to visit. Thank you for sharing. if you like peaceful and quiet place Laos is the best choice. Many people they are prefer Thailand over Laos. They not wrong about that Laos just opened up to the world not long ago so give Laos a chance. Laos is try to improve right now. Thank you for visiting my country. Hope you guys enjoy and have fun. Love the video. The city is used to be french colonial that is why you see a lot colonial style building.
Hey Scot we love your country 🇱🇦 the people here are so kind and yeah it is peaceful like the old days! We hope more people come to laos! Have an amazing day
Thank you for the amazing video. This is my dad’s hometown. I love my people I have been in the USA since I was 6 years old and hoping one day to go back and visit 👍❤️💯
My parents were raised in Savannakhet before finding refuge in Europe during the Vietnam war. Parents have yet to go back since and now have a trip planned for my 40th bday with them to do so. Thank you for sharing your experience and bringing attention to the country/region! Safe travels
I’ve been to Savannakhet twice a couple of months ago to renew my Thai visa and it’s definitely something different. I’m guessing the only tourists they get are people like myself who has to do border crossing from Thailand to Laos. I definitely think there’s a lot to explore in Savannakhet but with little time I had and having agencies touring me & a few others I was with to do our visas we were limited to go to certain places but as I said it’s definitely an interesting country & I’ve noticed that many locals accept Thai baht money so that was useful
It's a really nice quiet place, nice people, countryside surrounding the city is incredible, lots of really good food and the prices are super affordable. Yeah being able to use Thai Baht makes things very easy! Next time you go stay for a week and take it easy haha Have a nice day!
@@EllisWR Yes, I was there at the end of March into April. I did a motorcycle trip from Cambodia to Pakse, Savannakhet to Thakhek on the Laos side of the border this trip, and did the Thailand side earlier in the year. I did trips to the Vietnam border and back while visiting the cities on the Laos side. I loved it.
Pad-Keemao mean drunkard stir-fried, the rumor has it that some drunkard throw whatever is left in their fridge in the wok and stir-fry the heck out of it. Never knew it existed in Laos too, but I'm not that surprised. And seeing chicken in so many vids, hmmm, I don't know if you believe in the organic free-range food trend but at least in Thai, free-range chicken does actually taste different.
Key word in your title is "Tourists". It looks like you two are "travellers" and not "tourists". I believe that tourists go to the flavor of the month hot trendy spots. BTW, my mom was born in Eastern part of Thailand and they speak a dialect of Loatian, what they speak in Laos. Most Thais born in Eastern part or Issan region speak Loatian dialect. The high Thai dialect, normal Thai you hear is learned and taught in schools, as the official language. Most Thais living outside Bangkok also speak the dialect of their region, which is mostly Loas.
At 15:30 the lady says Lucy bites duk dik so Duk dik is scared of Lucy. She also says there's a Japanese person that buys meat for the dogs everyday but today they didn't come today
Have lived there for very short period of times before for work. I stayed in a small hotel. The appartment for foreigners was almost not existing. I saw some tourists coming and going after 1 or 2 nights in the hotel. Apparently, I was the only long term resident. Peaceful and nice city. Struggled a bit as I spoke no Lao, except a couple of phrases.
That's my hometown Savannakhet. I was born there but left when i was young like 2. I don't remember much. What were you guys doing in this town, passing by?
Im doing my visa run to this place wish I hadnt missed this vlog as already booked my place to stay, its good to know I can get my hair cut. I will ask for a Ellis special pmsl
My friend, Savannakhet city Driving the economy with casinos, covid-19 is the main reason for foreign tourists to travel less. especially Chinese people. Let have fun there.
if you go to vientianne, should go eat at Todd's lao restaurant,,,, his youtube is Lao Now.... he donates some of his time and money to helping the locals in poor villages.
wow, right? 18cents per ice cream cone, lol meanwhile it's $6bucks for a pack of 4 ice cream cones here....... i don't even bother asking the price in laos, it's so cheap, even if some of them give you a separate foreigner price, it's still cheap... i just wouldn't care......... reason is, vast majority of laos businesses are family owned, not corporations.... so your cash really goes into their pockets and helps the family out.
@@EllisWR 😁Thought so, PR67 myself. Enjoy your travels, good innit! I had my fun many full moons ago on many different shores. Will be keeping an eye on ya from now on. Lucky so and so’s . Very jel !
@@EllisWR Enjoy your travels and get back home , that’s the main thing. Those scooters can be deadly (as you’ve recently discovered) and it doesn’t need to be your fault. After a couple of luckily survivable accidents myself I decided to stick to public transport or hire a cheap banged up car( this is the way to go!). Two younger friends of mine just went through Laos a couple of months ago and one of them caught a foot peg on the curb in Luang Prabang and had a spill. Fortunately he got away with superficial injuries but I could write a book about others who didn’t. I believe you also had to pay damages to the guilty rider. If you hadn’t the police would have got involved and then things would have got far worse with demands of bribes or threats of jail. Stay safe you two, love the foodie aspect of your travel vlog!

Thanks so much Carol I'm really glad you like them! 🙏
What I love about Laos, its people included, is the way residents are not allowed to build houses or whatever beside the rivers.
I think it's great hope they keep it that way!

Shame some of those buildings with the balconies have been neglected as they look superb when well kept. I like the coffee pot 👍🏻

The majority of Lao people are friendly. However, you should be cautious of government officials.
