My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. I’m an American who just spent a month traveling all over Spain. What a beautiful country and culture, the people there are very kind and accommodating. I watched a video about the best way to ACQUIRE a language rather than learn it. They said you should be listening and speaking as much as you can rather than writing. So I stopped practicing my writing and put the time into listening and speaking. I practice listing by watching one episode of Destinos every day but there wasn't much to practice my pronunciation in that. I was also doing the stories in Duolingo and I would read every line of text out loud after I heard it then write it down. I have since stopped writing and use that time to listen/speak more stories. And THIS video here is a great way to practice pronunciation because they say it at regular speed and then slow! I've only watched 15 minutes of this video but it is very helpful!

That was great, thank you. The only thing was I would have liked to see more literal translations considering we’re learning vocabulary. This was often more like giving the gist of things, or equivalent to, in English instead of the literal word meanings which would help.
I have been very pleased with the progress I’ve made using this 4BestSpanishCourse.blogspot.com Spanish learning course. We are English ex-pats who moved to Spain, and have been trying to learn the language, seriously, for 4 years. However, in our 60’s learning a new language has been daunting. But we are making real progress now, thanks to your course.
Because of this type of pronunciations and conversations and this video I signed up for their course. I was on Babbel and Rosetta Stone and didn’t seem to enjoyable and they never intrigued me. I signed up for their lifetime courses and I’m Happy. I just come on RUclips and out their videos to listen in the car to get my brain use to the language. Ouino app is excellent better than all the big boys like Rosetta and Babbel.

NEVER say "Soy Americana" or "soy Americana" in South America! ALWAYS say, "Soy de los Estados Unidos" or "Soy Estadounidense" if you're from the USA. (In Spain people may not understand you. But in South AMERICA it's considered very insulting to act like people from the USA are the only Americans.)
Las dos frases significan 2 cosas differentes. Uno explica tu nacionalidad y el otro significa donde tu estabas nacido. Por ejemplo, puedo ser de los estados unidos pero no significa que soy americano. Hay muchas personas que viven en los estados unidos pero ellos vienen de un otro país.

Thank you very much. Your idea to repeat each sentence slowly after pronouncing it with normal speed is so wise. I learn Spanish language through English to improve the last one :-). My native tongue is the Russian language.

I’m an American who just spent a month traveling all over Spain. What a beautiful country and culture, the people there are very kind and accommodating. I watched a video about the best way to ACQUIRE a language rather than learn it. They said you should be listening and speaking as much as you can rather than writing. So I stopped practicing my writing and put the time into listening and speaking. I practice listing by watching one episode of Destinos every day but there wasn't much to practice my pronunciation in that. I was also doing the stories in Duolingo and I would read every line of text out loud after I heard it then write it down. I have since stopped writing and use that time to listen/speak more stories. And THIS video here is a great way to practice pronunciation because they say it at regular speed and then slow! I've only watched 15 minutes of this video but it is very helpful!
I like the Destinos series, but find that getting materials for it is difficult. Who uses cassettes anymore, right?

That was great, thank you. The only thing was I would have liked to see more literal translations considering we’re learning vocabulary. This was often more like giving the gist of things, or equivalent to, in English instead of the literal word meanings which would help.

NEVER say "Soy Americana" or "soy Americana" in South America! ALWAYS say, "Soy de los Estados Unidos" or "Soy Estadounidense" if you're from the USA. (In Spain people may not understand you. But in South AMERICA it's considered very insulting to act like people from the USA are the only Americans.)

Las dos frases significan 2 cosas differentes. Uno explica tu nacionalidad y el otro significa donde tu estabas nacido. Por ejemplo, puedo ser de los estados unidos pero no significa que soy americano. Hay muchas personas que viven en los estados unidos pero ellos vienen de un otro país.
