Just wanna clear for everyone $650 was the maximum for 2023 and for those are applying in 2024 is going to be $668. $650 or $668 is the maximum you can get if you work specific hours and income in previous 52 weeks before applying. For year of 2024 if you made $63,200 in last year then you can get $668 in this .Otherwise its 55% of your weekly gross. For example if you are making $1000 before taxes in week you could be eligible for $550 not the $650. They calculate your benefit rate based on your weekly earning in previous year. Thank you

You said maternity benefits can only be applied within 4 weeks of leaving the job and they can't be applied afterwards. Some women leave job many months before due date due to complications but have worked for 600+ hours. So they can't get maternity benefits? if last day of job was in July and application is in October?
They can only be applied for within 12 weeks prior to the due date. It means the job must be continued into those 12 weeks or up to 4 weeks prior to those 12 weeks?
It seems contrary to 52 weeks rule!

And i am planning my family this year. Probably December would be the delivery date.
So can i apply for maternity leave and parental leave benefits if i go on temporary lay-off for Jan to April ?
Because i read that one must not be on EI in past 52 weeks, from the datewe apply mat and parental leave.
Looking forward for a reply asap.

The question is I'm I eligible for parental leave if she does not work? Can I take standard parental leave? Also, What if my kid born in India. I'm I eligible to apply for parental leave and benefits if we plan to deliver my baby in India? or the Parental leave works only if kid born in Canada? do you know what documents should I get prepared for this scenario ? Also, I have my own incorporation but no income into it last year because Im working as permanent employee so should I mention self-employed information if no income in my incorporation ?

Suppose your last day of work is January 1st. You have 4 weeks after Jan 1st to apply for your leave, if you don’t apply within 4 weeks then you may loose the benefits.
But if you are talking about “waiting period”- Suppose January 1st is your last day of work. It takes Upto 28 business day to approve the benefits. January 1- January 7 considered as waiting period and you wont get paid for that one week. But after January 7 your benefits will start. I hope it makes sense.

Hey, Your husband will have to apply separately, separate application. They ask this info during your application is because to cross verify if the information is correct or not when you apply for your husband’s leave. That’s what my understanding is.
