- The Redskins battled the elements - and a few demons from the ’86 season - in this late November classic from the 1987 Super Season. As the rain poured down, Joe Gibbs’ offense got stuck in the mud while the visiting Giants built a 16-0 halftime lead. Muddied but unbowed, the Skins sloshed their way back in the second half of this grudge match vs Big Blue.
Jay Schroeder was brilliant, throwing three touchdowns to spark the rally despite being forced into a pass-only scheme by the halftime deficit and a lifeless running game (in that pouring rain, no less). The hearty RFK Faithful, who stayed in their seats hunkered down under ponchos and umbrellas, saw their perseverance rewarded as the Redskins rallied for one of the most memorable and dramatic victories of the first Gibbs era. With all those Hogs slopping around in that rainy RFK mud, you know John Madden (with Pat Summerall) had to be there, too.
Captured from a newly acquired VHS master recording, this one's a crown jewel in the RetroSkins collection. Enjoy!

This game was played the Sunday after Thanksgiving 1987. I live on the West Coast and this game was not televised in my region. I was 15yo and remember listening to it on Westwood One radio and hanging on to every call. I truely believe had the Skins lost this game they would not have won the Super Bowl. This win really established the confidence and momentum they needed to make that big playoff push. All timer in Redskins lore.
Thank God for this old footage! 58 years old and miss my Team👍
Man Joe Morris used to give us fits

REDSKINS REDSKINS
Giants fan here playoffs included this was for me the most devastating on field loss i ever had as a Giants fan
I miss the good ol' days when they would throw the ball deep like they did in this game
Redskins 4 life 🏈👊🤜👊🤛👍🇺🇲👌
Ali Haji-SHANK!!!! Smh
~~ the '85 Bears arguably had the best defense ever - but it was only truly great for that one season - the NY Giants OTOH had the best defense in the league for the latter half of the 1980's - so it always took a great offensive effort from any team to beat them - esp. for Washington - as the G-men always brought their A-game for the Skins - these 2 teams just did not like each other ..
Hail To The Redskins!
I had forgotten how bad Shrader was and I'm glad.
Man, those Giants were TOUGH to beat!
The days when we always had the top announcers
Just go back & plsy st R.F.K 🏟 get out Fed ex field/ Redskins 👌🇺🇲👍🤛👊🤜🏈
I watched this game real time, a game to remember our old glory days. Hail to the Redskins!
Me to loved this team still do
The ONLY Redskins squad to win the Super Bowl AND sweep the Cowpies (and Giants for good measure) in the same season.
I remember this game. Our family had gone early that afternoon and adopted a Brittany Spaniel and we came home and watched the Redskins come back and win. I remember people calling this the scab game. We lived in Frederick County, MD and it was exciting to be a 9 year old then. HTTR!
The “scab” game vs the Giants was earlier in the season. This was the regular team post-strike.
I really thought Kelvin Bryant fumbled at the 7:06 mark. 😂😂😂😂
Jay Shreoder's guttiest game...
He was there FOREVER! but had some good games👍
The ONLY good season Jay Schroeder had was 1986. He was just average outside of that.
