THANK YOU OH MY GOD THANK YOU This is easily the most cathartic video I’ve had in awhile, this is my soup Sinclair as most hated ego. I remember when it first came I was straight baffled over every single decision that was made with garden of thorns to the point that I believe whoever created it has zero fundamental understanding of the game. Even if we got a Gregor ID that somehow synchronized with it you’d still NEVER end up using it to its full potential. The fact that it’s gimmick was using every sin the fact that they didn’t make this a wildcard option for any kind of resonance was a disappointment. I feel like wildcard skills or egos would be very interesting especially with the way this game is played. Second, the fact that it’s lust…while the horrible passive is based around rupture and rupture teams are known for gluttony…what were they thinking? Three, you need Gregor to be at the start of the pack in order to take advantage of the buffs it gives, with the only one being zwei, which doesn’t have a good synergy with the ego at all. None of his identities do…nor will we ever get one. Finally this is a waw ego, meaning Gregor is not going to get one anytime soon, it just really is horribly conceived at every level. It’s impressive.
I feel like a cool buff to Garden of Thorns would be making the sin damage up buffs permanent for the rest of the fight. This solves the speed requirement and even if it's still bad, it wouldn't feel totally awful to use.

I mean, Comtempt still turned out mid as hell, so, not quite saved all of them. I think PM should give us more payoff from the sin resonance and maybe a new ability to Dante to be able to change the sins or something, that way the lust resonance will be real

If there's a way to rework this EGO, my suggestions is as such:- 1) Change Garden of Thorns to be a sin-neutral EGO (I know, pretty controversial, but hear me out.) 1) When using this EGO in a skill chain, it counts as the sin of the highest resonance (for example, if the highest sin resonance is Pride, then this EGO counts as a pride sin for the sake of resonance.) That way, it can work well with other sin-resonance teams like Blade Lineage or Pequod Crew. 2) The sin damage up should be permanent until the end of the fight (shocksword6847's suggestion), and the sin damage up changes if the EGO is used again but with a different sin resonance. 3) Taking a page out of the Ring Finger IDs, the EGO inflicts/apply a good amount status effect associated with the highest sin resoannce (Lust for bleed, Wrath for fire, Gluttony for Rupture, and so on). 4) The corrosion could be worked on; maybe when it is used it will force all skills to be only one sin affinity altogether, but at the cost of everyone gaining a good amount of Sin Fragility at the start of combat. That's what I manage to came up with, what do you guys think?
From storypoint, Gregor's been lagging behind, as well. Not just because of his Canto lacking resolution, but because the lack of resolution keeps stalking him. From blatant lack of ability to perform when in front of everyone, overly paranoid thoughts of being seen/called out by others on being a bug/a pest, likely coming from inseurity induced by the trauma. And said trauma being not the war itself, but his utter fear of people putting expctations on him, even backing out of participating in TKT ONLY because he felt Meursault's gaze on his back. If that is the reason why Gregor IDs are, plotwise, "people in high ranks that fail at living up to their potential" or, gameplay wise, "performing poorly on frontline, rather used as the followup to clashes or useful only for his bench passives", then i bow down to the ludonarrative. I still hope he gets to shine, rather than boost others/pick off their leftovers, but man.

I thank your video for existing to repay my disappointment in the EGO, only for a video as a reply to yours to come up and give me a team I can "optimize" his EGO for Which in turn unlocked KK Gregor/Rodya/Ryoshu in a combo with ring duo and Nfaust while letting me spam Garden of thorns' Uptie4 with the KK fusion gift to maximize his damage potential alongside Sanguie and contempt. Blessed be your days and popularity for connecting equally mentally ill fans spending hours to do research.
@@bullet3417 The EGO was lacking in so many areas and it took the release of the ring IDs which was more than a few months after the EGO itself alongside me not wanting to spend hours building a team that relies heavily on lust while also offering every sin? It was pretty much just Nfaust hard carrying and the rest of the support + 2 additional WAW egos coming way later. The full setup wasn't even complete when it came out and it wasn't something I could afford to heavily build around when it was barely worth the effort.
Thank you for calling out the unfair expectations of farmwatch, spicebush was our 'boss' ID for season 3 and I couldn't understand why people were so desperate for another.

Also the 'boss ID's' being a running trend hadn't been cemented by that point since there were none for Canto 1 and 2. and even if you wanna discount all of that and call it invalid, I would still think the way the community begged was excessive.

Man, you really made a "why gregor and his egos suck" then project moon proceded to give him on of the most broken and high damage ego in the game, up there with fucking Everlasting faust lmao.
I actually love this ego. I built whole team about it and contempt, Awe, focusing of lust resonance and it feels so unique to play with. I got 52 rr4 run with it, and this is the best place to achieve full power of this team. First i have team, with good lust skills and focused of gathering all sins affinities. Once we had enough recourses for Contempt, Awe on 1 section, around butlers, immediately use it to start generating more and more lacking resources. 2 section is where heat goes up - we just destroying ncorp, using Awe and GoT, maybe it would take some time to get Gregor faster than Ryoshu. Some resource farming on kurokumo and another strike on blade linage team. At 3 section just repeat Awe and GoT spamming proccess, on sheep we could get enough resources to continue nightmaring those guys on 4th section. This is where we oneshots everyone on first turn, because everyone of those is vulnerable to lust/slash. Team: Tingtang Honglu, ring Otis and Yi Sang, zwai Gregor, Ncorp Faust, Maido-Ryoshu. This team is best against multiply enemies and abnormalities with many parts, but using it versus solo target fight is boring, slow hell. This team just cant dealt too much damage to one enemy, even with best rotations, like double GoT with x6 resonance, it would be long fight
12:30 There's an extra catch to that. Contempt, Awe Ryoshu does not want to go on a turn where there's 6 lust resonance going on, because that will overflow her personal buff and turn it into a debuff next turn. Now, granted, it does make her tanky, but is it worth it when it means you won't get to use the lust powerup you worked so hard to get? I guess everybody else would get to. But I think most enemies would be dead by that point.
i have a soft spot for garden gregor because when i did my first ten pull ever he was right there xD i was taken by surprised as was my friend who got me into LC x'D i still like having it around sometimes
Say what you will, but I appreciate this E.G.O because it allowed me to put it on my profile card with the tagline "Let the Bug Guy bloom" which I am very satisfied with.
A VERY intersting buff or rework that could be done is this Absolute Resonance is applied to all skills used this turn, Resonance count granted to skills not already in a resonance is equal to number of unique sin affinites used this turn. This could make it so that we could have teams like BL+Ahab and Middle Envy teams be able to synergize and activate their resonances at the same time. While also being able to trigger resonance passives and such on teams with a variety of sin affinites.
never understood why people think garden of thorns looks like a bride outfit. it was always obvious that its supposed to be something similar to what jesus is depicted wearing
as someone who did initially think it was a bridal outfit - usually, most outfits that are fully in white, especially dresses, are usually associated with weddings. i wasn't exactly surprised when Everlasting Faust came out and was called Bridal Faust. - from afar, the fact that it is a robe isn't exactly clear. it's a bit dirty sure, but the silhouette just looks like a dress, especially because of the cinched waist. The undershirt(?) isn't easily seen on the art as well. It probably would have been less thought of as a dress if it wasn't cinched, so it could look more like a priest's robe. really the only way one could be absolutely sure its a robe is when Gregor uses the Awakening and raises the gauntlet to slam down. you can really see the undershirt of the robe. - the gauntlet that has the roses. While it's obviously a gauntlet, because of Gregor's hand position (gripping the gauntlet) it would initially look like that Gregor was holding a bouquet. - it doesn't exactly help that roses are flowers with romantic meaning, so combined altogether • he's wearing white • the robe looks more like a dress from an initial view. • he's holding roses with what seems to be both hands. yeah thats why i initially thought he was wearing a bridal outfit.
I really wish this EGO had the effect of being able to change its affinity to whatever the biggest resonance or a. resonance was, would have made it a lot more useable.

In the rare case someone sees this and cares, I have tried to hard to build a team that actually uses this egos strengths effectively. essentially the team comp is this, 7 ryoshu - zewi gregor? - cinq outis? - liu rodion - kromer faust - shi ish i guess atm in the game this team hardly exists. there just isn't really enough "support" for it. anyways the idea is this, slash lust towards sheer raw damage. 50% slash damage up - 7 ryo 20% lust + 40% general damage up - mfe outis corrosion 20% + some odd ends - got greg 20 defense level down - 9:2 faust and that's just general damage ups contempt gains 70% for itself on use and sanguine desire gains damage up for bleed and 9:2 spends burn for defense level down. shi ish has a 4 coin lust slash skill, there really isn't any better options for lust slash. (that being said wingbeat is on ish so you could just use this. actually that would probably just be more effective with the 50% damage up from ryo) anyways this team still has issues. speed is a main one. with this choice of id's is is mostly mitigated, but there's still a lot of rng here. not to mention 7 ryo needs to act a turn before to luck into a skill chain that might not even work (optimally that is) also half these ego need to be used in corrosion for optimal damage, so gl with coin rolls. not to mention the cost and that's not even including bleed and burn for sanguine and 9:2. also if you want max potential out of all this most of the ego need to be uptie 4 which is really expensive. a lot of this to say, it's not really worth it. got greg is one of the weakest buffs in this chain. i think it's funny though, and also kind of cool but ego just do less damage than sinners for a much higher cost. it's why more often than not support ego are just better. anyways, you want a niche of a niche i'd say this is about as close as you can get. idk how much damage it'd do but the enemies would be taking well over double damage (not even including sin weakness and slash weakness).

I have a personal relationship with GoT. It was the only non-zayin healing ego i owned for a very long time, and it showed its worth as little more than an overpriced heal button. It's way worse than fluid sac. But it's not useless. I truly wish it was better
Aww, I just got Garden of Thorns from Walpurgisnacht pulls, haven't even had a chance to use it yet. :< I once dated a guy who looked like a 20something-year-old Gregor, though, and I think that's been fking up Gregor's performance on any team I try to use him in.
My own take on reworking Garden: Make it cost 1 of each affinity but 4 lust and 3 wrath or the other way around. Make it so it doesnt have an affinity itself but instead becomes the affinity WITHOUT a resonance/the lowest resonance. Why? Give it 4 base attack weight BUT make it gain more attack weight with DIFFERENT RESONANCES so if you have 6 sinners and have 2 resonance of each sin (3 affinity res total) you get 7 attack weight AND give sin gain buffs to each ally (not Greg) and damage up equal to the number of different resonances. The passive now gives (number of resonances + 1) flower crown to allies and gregor. Flower crown: Combat start gain 2 sin affinity power up of a random affinity that the unit has, turn start or end gain (number of different affinities used *2) so now you got sp regeneration and affinity power up. I am not an expert at balancing but hey I tried
Nowadays with Chain Battles becoming more common it could be used as a mid-way swap-in utilizing accumulated resources from other IDs but the resonance capabilities of another setup
Also in context of Mirror Dungeons (which i think should be considered) it could be fueled by several common EGO gifts, allowing you to focus on reson and interacting well with completed randomized resource sourcing like Blue Zippo Lighter that lets you get maximum use out of the gift on average
I understand the logic that cost doesnt matter in a mirror dungeon but being able to MAXIMALLY spam an EGO in later floors with just blue zippo lighter output is a huge boon for worse MD teams, all packed into 1 single dispensable EGO
Usually just use it for healing on teams where i cant use faust/mersault/roldia (i dont like sinclair ego), just as blind obsesion to heal sp on ego spam battles along with heathcliff or faust , damage is like the last thing i use an ego for, like wow it did 30-100 damage wow *quick supresses for 500 damage*, clashing is like the main reason egos are for (except for multicoin egos that can actually do big damage).
I just need to say in favor of Contempt,Awe too,is the passive Holy freak that thing is a blessing for RR. It's a random sin,but you are getting two different sin resources from one skill use
Looking at a silver lining, i mostly feel it fits Gregor in the idea that he is a design mixed bag that was never meant to shine excellently in one role, but do a mid job in many all at once. Garden of Thorns sadly does not anything specially well, but does too many things at once and uses up leftover 'unwanted" affinities.
I think that it was designed under the assumption that you were running a lust team with the coffee and cranes ego gift which basically would give you half of its cost every single turn you use a lust skill. And under that context from experimenting with it in silly solo runs its honestly my most used gregor ego. There are still barely any 4+ attack weight slash ego (the only other that comes to mind is 4 match yi sang) and for the context of silly solos having a high sanity cost makes it easier to manually corrode. Its no sunshower yi sang but for my preferred way to play I am always glad I have it
I've been using him a ton and he works well if you get VERY lucky with resource generating E.G.O gifts in mirror dungeon, not much else. I think one thing you missed about this E.G.O however is that it being lust means that you have N-Faust support, meaning that the sanity cost can be easily mitigated. I used him in Refraction Railway and it was a pain, resorted to using 7-Outis just for gluttony and it was sad. All in all, I think the resources are much better used in spamming 9:2 Sinclair which is saying something.
At least we got That Which Binds right after, which is my personal favorite waw ego atm also garden of thorns is lust because he just hot like that welp time to roll for ding ding ding ding ding ding ego!
The one thing I like about this EGO is the sin power and damage boost. Combine with rusty coin and every single sinner after him in the chain with res gets like +4 power which is huge because it can save resources/SP on more difficult encounters where you otherwise would have spammed egos. Okay but why are all of Gregor's IDs mid??? They're so bad, I know that a bunch of sinners have anemic ID lineups but usually they have at least an exception or two like Kimsault

GoT's passive really should have been taken from Respite, not Crown of Roses. It is a Lust EGO, after all.
I mean that gift didn't exist until Season 4, so they might have designed the EGO before Respite was a thing.

I actually love this ego. I built whole team about it and contempt, Awe, focusing of lust resonance and it feels so unique to play with. I got 52 rr4 run with it, and this is the best place to achieve full power of this team. First i have team, with good lust skills and focused of gathering all sins affinities. Once we had enough recourses for Contempt, Awe on 1 section, around butlers, immediately use it to start generating more and more lacking resources. 2 section is where heat goes up - we just destroying ncorp, using Awe and GoT, maybe it would take some time to get Gregor faster than Ryoshu. Some resource farming on kurokumo and another strike on blade linage team. At 3 section just repeat Awe and GoT spamming proccess, on sheep we could get enough resources to continue nightmaring those guys on 4th section. This is where we oneshots everyone on first turn, because everyone of those is vulnerable to lust/slash.
Team: Tingtang Honglu, ring Otis and Yi Sang, zwai Gregor, Ncorp Faust, Maido-Ryoshu. This team is best against multiply enemies and abnormalities with many parts, but using it versus solo target fight is boring, slow hell. This team just cant dealt too much damage to one enemy, even with best rotations, like double GoT with x6 resonance, it would be long fight
I hope we get garden of thorns hong lu that does everything Esgoo wants this one to do

Contempt, Awe Ryoshu does not want to go on a turn where there's 6 lust resonance going on, because that will overflow her personal buff and turn it into a debuff next turn. Now, granted, it does make her tanky, but is it worth it when it means you won't get to use the lust powerup you worked so hard to get?
I guess everybody else would get to. But I think most enemies would be dead by that point.
I like Garden of Thorns - it's definitely an MD only Waw, but the double turn ultra Sin turns are very satisfying.
i have a soft spot for garden gregor because when i did my first ten pull ever he was right there xD i was taken by surprised as was my friend who got me into LC x'D i still like having it around sometimes

A VERY intersting buff or rework that could be done is this
Absolute Resonance is applied to all skills used this turn, Resonance count granted to skills not already in a resonance is equal to number of unique sin affinites used this turn.
This could make it so that we could have teams like BL+Ahab and Middle Envy teams be able to synergize and activate their resonances at the same time. While also being able to trigger resonance passives and such on teams with a variety of sin affinites.
I think its cool. If they made it change to the affinity of the highest resonsnce it would be peak honestly.

as someone who did initially think it was a bridal outfit
- usually, most outfits that are fully in white, especially dresses, are usually associated with weddings. i wasn't exactly surprised when Everlasting Faust came out and was called Bridal Faust.
- from afar, the fact that it is a robe isn't exactly clear. it's a bit dirty sure, but the silhouette just looks like a dress, especially because of the cinched waist. The undershirt(?) isn't easily seen on the art as well. It probably would have been less thought of as a dress if it wasn't cinched, so it could look more like a priest's robe. really the only way one could be absolutely sure its a robe is when Gregor uses the Awakening and raises the gauntlet to slam down. you can really see the undershirt of the robe.
- the gauntlet that has the roses. While it's obviously a gauntlet, because of Gregor's hand position (gripping the gauntlet) it would initially look like that Gregor was holding a bouquet.
- it doesn't exactly help that roses are flowers with romantic meaning, so combined altogether

• the robe looks more like a dress from an initial view.
• he's holding roses with what seems to be both hands.

I really wish this EGO had the effect of being able to change its affinity to whatever the biggest resonance or a. resonance was, would have made it a lot more useable.

In the rare case someone sees this and cares, I have tried to hard to build a team that actually uses this egos strengths effectively.
essentially the team comp is this,
7 ryoshu - zewi gregor? - cinq outis? - liu rodion - kromer faust - shi ish i guess
atm in the game this team hardly exists. there just isn't really enough "support" for it.
anyways the idea is this, slash lust towards sheer raw damage.
50% slash damage up - 7 ryo
20% lust + 40% general damage up - mfe outis corrosion
20% + some odd ends - got greg
20 defense level down - 9:2 faust
and that's just general damage ups
contempt gains 70% for itself on use and sanguine desire gains damage up for bleed and 9:2 spends burn for defense level down. shi ish has a 4 coin lust slash skill, there really isn't any better options for lust slash. (that being said wingbeat is on ish so you could just use this. actually that would probably just be more effective with the 50% damage up from ryo)
anyways this team still has issues. speed is a main one. with this choice of id's is is mostly mitigated, but there's still a lot of rng here. not to mention 7 ryo needs to act a turn before to luck into a skill chain that might not even work (optimally that is) also half these ego need to be used in corrosion for optimal damage, so gl with coin rolls. not to mention the cost and that's not even including bleed and burn for sanguine and 9:2. also if you want max potential out of all this most of the ego need to be uptie 4 which is really expensive.
a lot of this to say, it's not really worth it. got greg is one of the weakest buffs in this chain. i think it's funny though, and also kind of cool but ego just do less damage than sinners for a much higher cost. it's why more often than not support ego are just better.
anyways, you want a niche of a niche i'd say this is about as close as you can get. idk how much damage it'd do but the enemies would be taking well over double damage (not even including sin weakness and slash weakness).

I have a personal relationship with GoT. It was the only non-zayin healing ego i owned for a very long time, and it showed its worth as little more than an overpriced heal button.
It's way worse than fluid sac. But it's not useless. I truly wish it was better

I once dated a guy who looked like a 20something-year-old Gregor, though, and I think that's been fking up Gregor's performance on any team I try to use him in.
My own take on reworking Garden:
Make it cost 1 of each affinity but 4 lust and 3 wrath or the other way around. Make it so it doesnt have an affinity itself but instead becomes the affinity WITHOUT a resonance/the lowest resonance. Why? Give it 4 base attack weight BUT make it gain more attack weight with DIFFERENT RESONANCES so if you have 6 sinners and have 2 resonance of each sin (3 affinity res total) you get 7 attack weight AND give sin gain buffs to each ally (not Greg) and damage up equal to the number of different resonances. The passive now gives (number of resonances + 1) flower crown to allies and gregor. Flower crown: Combat start gain 2 sin affinity power up of a random affinity that the unit has, turn start or end gain (number of different affinities used *2) so now you got sp regeneration and affinity power up. I am not an expert at balancing but hey I tried
Nowadays with Chain Battles becoming more common it could be used as a mid-way swap-in utilizing accumulated resources from other IDs but the resonance capabilities of another setup
Also in context of Mirror Dungeons (which i think should be considered) it could be fueled by several common EGO gifts, allowing you to focus on reson and interacting well with completed randomized resource sourcing like Blue Zippo Lighter that lets you get maximum use out of the gift on average
I understand the logic that cost doesnt matter in a mirror dungeon but being able to MAXIMALLY spam an EGO in later floors with just blue zippo lighter output is a huge boon for worse MD teams, all packed into 1 single dispensable EGO
Usually just use it for healing on teams where i cant use faust/mersault/roldia (i dont like sinclair ego), just as blind obsesion to heal sp on ego spam battles along with heathcliff or faust , damage is like the last thing i use an ego for, like wow it did 30-100 damage wow *quick supresses for 500 damage*, clashing is like the main reason egos are for (except for multicoin egos that can actually do big damage).

Looking at a silver lining, i mostly feel it fits Gregor in the idea that he is a design mixed bag that was never meant to shine excellently in one role, but do a mid job in many all at once.
Garden of Thorns sadly does not anything specially well, but does too many things at once and uses up leftover 'unwanted" affinities.
I think that it was designed under the assumption that you were running a lust team with the coffee and cranes ego gift which basically would give you half of its cost every single turn you use a lust skill. And under that context from experimenting with it in silly solo runs its honestly my most used gregor ego. There are still barely any 4+ attack weight slash ego (the only other that comes to mind is 4 match yi sang) and for the context of silly solos having a high sanity cost makes it easier to manually corrode. Its no sunshower yi sang but for my preferred way to play I am always glad I have it

I've been using him a ton and he works well if you get VERY lucky with resource generating E.G.O gifts in mirror dungeon, not much else. I think one thing you missed about this E.G.O however is that it being lust means that you have N-Faust support, meaning that the sanity cost can be easily mitigated.
I used him in Refraction Railway and it was a pain, resorted to using 7-Outis just for gluttony and it was sad.
All in all, I think the resources are much better used in spamming 9:2 Sinclair which is saying something.
At least we got That Which Binds right after, which is my personal favorite waw ego atm

The one thing I like about this EGO is the sin power and damage boost. Combine with rusty coin and every single sinner after him in the chain with res gets like +4 power which is huge because it can save resources/SP on more difficult encounters where you otherwise would have spammed egos.
Okay but why are all of Gregor's IDs mid??? They're so bad, I know that a bunch of sinners have anemic ID lineups but usually they have at least an exception or two like Kimsault
