I have same exact forty eight same Metal Flake custom. Watching this hurts lol, yours was new like you said. Brings me back to how mine use to look lol.
Recommend to take the oil filter off while oil is draining from drain plug , then prime oil filter half way then put back on , then put drain plug back on after full draining, then add the 1 qt Then thats when you purge the air in the line. Taking oil filter off after can possibly cause air pockets. Also stand bike up straight when checking oil
Is recommend NOT pouring oil around the ring of filter. Just take your finger and dip it into oil and spread it around with your finger, DONT pour the oil onto your filter, pour it INTO the filter
When the engine is cold the dipstick should barely touch the oil. 3qt is too much. 2.7 is better. Chances are when you recheck the oil after running the engine for sometime dipstick will show too much oil.
The Harley EVO 883 and 1200 holds 3.6 quarts of oil with a filter change. This video really didn't show much of anything. If you are changing the oil in your Sportster for the first time, find a better video.
theres few things that where good that u pointed out. like drain plug thing with air in it. but when u check yr oil you didn't put the dip stick in fully.
karl bedford I agree. Just by pushing it down doesn’t mean you’re actually making the dipstick go lower in the tank where it’s supposed to sit normally. You have to screw it in all the way in order to correctly check oil level
Better late than never... That seat is a la Pera seat, it's a great stylish seat and looks the biz, but I can tell you as I have that very same seat on my 48 that it is not comfey and I would definitely not recommend it for long journeys. I put up with it on mine because of the looks and the fact I don't use my 48 for long journeys
2 quarts first, start it up briefly, let it circulate, wait 2 min, check stick, then re-fill to 2.7 to 3 quarts. Plus I attach a VERY Powerful Neodymium Magnet onto my my Oil Filter, to let any metal shaving stay within the filter instead of circulating through the engine. I'm in the works of getting a 2016 48, by the end of the Month.
This actually helped out a lot with my 2016 HD 48 oil change. Never changed the oil on a motorcycle so I had no clue what I was looking for.

You don’t want to put dipstick in fully, you turn it in but don’t push in then check.
Thanks for the tips, very helpful 👍🏻
I will have my 2016 48 in a few days.
Is that seat as comfy as it looks? If so which brand is it and where do i get one!? Thanks

Thanks for your video👍
oil level should be checked when the bike is straight!
Is that wright?
Harley Davidson manual states check oil when on kickstand. Ride safe.
And you should run the engine to normal operating temperature
Before checking it

Can I just put 3 qrts and call it a day ?
You should really put the spec amount is and it fluctuates so you never know that’s why it is good to check the levels frequently
