The Lakota has many deep truths to teach us . Even as far away as Australia I learn of earth and sky and water and the Spirit world from the Lakota . I am eternally grateful

I can't believe that no one has made any comments in two years. Thank you so much for sharing this story so beautifully, and by showing how deeply rooted in the land the Lakota creation story is. I am looking forward to visiting Wind Cave when quarantine is finally over. It is good to see that the oral traditions have not been lost.

That was a great story of good and evil. And of staying to the Creator and his words.

There is no good/evil. Is the ocean evil? The moon evil? An earthquake good? A lion good? A tiger evil? There is no Creator and it’s not a male. And if there was, it would most certainly be a female. Hating women is ugly. Do better.
But it’s a nice little primitive story. Reminds me of what a 4-year old would make up.

So I guess you don’t like the story? Or just my thoughts?

I’m curious about the crosshairs of historical documentation and spiritual stories. I love this story and others like it with the American southwest. I also know it’s told as fact that the Lakota only came to the black hills area in the 1700s after being pushed out of Minnesota and Wisconsin by US expansion and conflict with anishinabe peoples. So I guess it would be interesting to know if the story is meant to be wind cave or if it’s just about a time when we lived underground and wind cave is there NOW for Lakota people OR if there is a longer mysterious past about Lakota peoples in the area of the black hills that some of us don’t know about, like, much of the extremely fascinating unknown history of the americas. Or even a tale told TO the Lakota by inhabitants of the area prior to their arrival in the black hills that they met upon moving into the area. Anyway I ramble, but fascinating stuff to put one’s mind to either way. Thanks for sharing :)

So the Lakota value cavemen? How do they reconcile spiders, worms, and bats living in a cave?

I don't get it. Our own Winter Count shows us arriving at He Sapa in 1776 and we were east of the Missouri before that. How the hell did we come from a cave that was a thousand miles from our real homeland?
