This album had me on my toes the whole time. I didn’t know where it was gonna go in the next verse, let alone the next song. I loved it. Not my favorite. Yet. But it was definitely an experience for sure. Favorite line from the entire album has to be “Sorry I didn’t save the world, my friend; I was too busy building mine again.” Honestly, I thought Mirror was Kendrick saying goodbye, at least for now. That final track sounded like he’s telling us he and I can be and will eventually need to go on our own. “I chose me, I’m sorry.” Mirror has to be my favorite closing track from Kendrick. It reminded me of Cole’s Hunger on Hillside. Also, no Cole feature, but at least he gets a name drop lol

His children are Mr. Morale, and everything around him, everything he raps about, and everything he's protecting his children from, are the Big Steppers. It's not necessarily an album about his kids or being a father, but about the struggles in his life as both a celebrity and a normal person getting in the way of him doing productive things in his life, i.e. raising his children

This album was definitely an experience. The production on this album was very refreshing because honestly it’s felt like hip hop has been so saturated with a certain sound. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always dope to have songs to bump at a party or if you’re just wanting something that’s head banging. This album took us in a different direction in that I feel like it made us look inward. One comparison I can give to it so far is the Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. That album it’s pretty unconventional, but it felt like an experience listening through. I think Kendrick’s album may have to grow on some people, but for me it felt like a fresh of breath air because it’s so real. As an artist myself who uses music to express feelings to not only heal myself but hopefully others, I felt like I was able to relate to Kendrick so much on this album. I’ve gone through some other vids of reactions to the album and I realized that over the years, the way people consume music and deem what is amazing doesn’t have to apply to everyone. Social media has put a lot of “on the surface” songs on a pedestal (which not bad at all because good music is good music) but I think there were a lot of us craving something that felt extremely authentic and can have a lasting effect on us down the line as we go through the phases of our lives. Kendrick is human and I think it’s a blessing that we got to get a glimpse into his headspace at this point in his life. Art can allows us to understand more how a stranger may feel and I think Kendrick has done just that.

"A fresh of breath air" (; I agree. This album is definitely an album best listened the whole way through in one session. And it is a very vulnerable kendrick, but it just shows how many different feelings kendrick can invoke in a person. He has always been someone I prefer to re-listen as many times as I can until his vision connects to me, because his work is incredibly deep and heavy in substance. I learned from his wordplay in early EPs that Kendrick is a totally different beast when it comes to multiple meanings and a lot of the things he says are super thought-provoking. He is a masterful wordsmith. This time around though, he definitely gave us something to really think on, and ultimately I think that's his goal, because he is very introspective, the nature of his craft being so intertwined with self-reflection.

We cry together was a mind fuk for me. I went to bed after a big fight with my wife. I wake up early to the album and that song made me uncomfortable. I'm big into angel numbers and opened my phone to replay the song and it was 333 on the dot so I just felt overly connected to the music. The album made me reflect on my challenges as a man, my pain that I sweep under the rug, my alcoholic tendencies when sht gets overwhelming... It was a masterpiece, and for me I needed to hear this.
I can also see why people would hate on this, but people will appreciate it when they hear this when they need to. It really does take a few listens to realize how brilliant it is, but for me it was worth the wait.

Not saying toxicity is good for a relationship, but don't let yourself get too down thinking you or your girl are horrible people just bc yall argue. I think we can all relate in some aspect to the song, it's human behavior. It's not good, it's wrong, but we just humans and I think that's a lot of what this album is trying to push across. We seem to be able to hold onto that "normal relationship" for x amount of time and then sht goes sideways for us both. We have 4 year old twins so hearing the album really opened my eyes to the effect our actions have of the people around us.
I've loved K Dot since Overly Dedicated and for me this album is him at his best. It's not his most lyrical body of work but it's like he's bringing us in his house with the bars. He lets us into his actual life and his struggles, and for a ghost like Kendrick it's almost like making up for lost time. I love it.
Music can move you in many ways, and for me it started playing in the orchestra in elementary school. That ear for the craft came early, and it morphed into me being addicted to lyrics. It goes full circle for me because I appreciate the fundamentals. All of these songs are a continuation from start to finish. It feels like it's one long as song almost like The Dark Side Of The Moon. He's in a group of the greatest musical acts we've seen all time, it's bigger than hip-hop now. He's truly a genius.

On United grief (1st song) he started off the song by saying he has been going through something for 1855 days. That is how many days ago he dropped DAMN. At the beginning of the song Whitney (his fiancé) tells him to "Tell Them what's been going on". Them being the therapist and now us. You can clearly tell he is reluctant to open up and talk to the therapist. This is his first session. Then the whole album he continues to take us through his sessions and his growth. Growth is not always an upward projection. A lot of the time it's anger, denial, it's ranting. It is realizing things you have not realized before. And sometimes it's saying fuck what everyone else feels. And that is exactly what the first side of the album is. Then the second side of the album starts with" Session 10. We reached a breakthrough. And the second album is that breakthrough. It is him admitting his guilt, his anger, his hurt, his wrongs, his trauma, his family trauma and accepting it and healing from it. And loving himself. Again this is not an upward trajectory either. But the album ends with him choosing himself. This whole album takes us through his self-love journey through trauma and pain. And he shows this process is not easy, pretty, or conventional. It is personal and it is the hardest journey anyone would have to take in their life. But it is so rewarding.

Honestly this is probably the most I’ve enjoyed a Kendrick album on first listen, everyone might not love it at first but this is going down as a classic (the run from Rich Spirit to Mirror is perfect) 9/10
Edit: just want to add that the features on this album are so so good

Conceptually, it was good. From what he’s given us in the past, that was expected. Sonically? I was not the biggest fan. I don’t really find much replay value, but there were at least one or two songs I see myself revisiting.
I loved Father Time, and Silent Hill was also good. If I’m to be real honest with y’all, I think I liked The Heart Part 5 better than the actual album lol

Just finished my first listen to the album, and I come out of it with the fact that his human. He didn't reach the hype,he squashed it,and completely reintroduced himself outside of Hiphop competitiveness. Honesty is what led this album and the musical tone had to be what was addressed. Raw,sensitive, unpacking, pace changing but overall self reflective. But he is speaking about sh*t that's deeply personally and yet quite a unspoken well known issues that society has branded vulnerability with weakness and medicated it with hazey state. Pain is not beautiful because if it is it becomes addictive, therefore pain is a alarm to our conscious. We need to recognize that if we don't interpersonally communicate about life,we all become witnesses to each others demise. Spirituality therefore raises the importance of self and self within each other, therefore self is largely ourselves in God. Im glad he choose God and himself,he will heal.
But I'll still listen again, but no rush..

Love you guys - this feels like an event. I'm trying to filter out everyone's comments on this album and just trying to let this album speak to my soul. On first listen I didn't get it until the last three tracks of the album. Then the whole album clicked. Everything Kendrick speaks of, all his pain, all his flaunting, all his motivation to improve himself seems to stem from the topics that were the centre of the last three tracks, especially the second last. Holy shit. I know all of Kendrick's albums are cinematic - experiences you need to listen to from start to finish to truly appreciate. But I think THIS is really the album that can only be appreciated if you listen to every track. It reminds me of a stage play, with Kendrick's trauma driving the narrative. Each track is a scene in the play

GKMC is my favorite Kendrick album. I’ve listened to him since the release of that album. I was a junior in High School at the time and was blown away by how raw and authentic it was on the first listen. This gave me that same feeling unlike TPAB and Damn. This album to me is closure to that album in some weird way.

after hearing Ant’s interpretation of the album cover i have to agree. we placed this man on the pedestal (and rightly so) but his vulnerability and pressure he has felt demonstrates fully on the album. It makes sense as to why he has a crown of thorns on his head but with a gun in his pants at the same time, it’s almost as if he’s a “mortal man” so to say and i think this album really ties back to that last song from TPAB. such a masterpiece already
