I'm born and bred in what's now known as Historic South Central LA. The Central Avenue Corridor. The Jazz Corridor. Formerly Harlem of the West. Formerly Black Hollywood.
As someone who knows a lot of so called hispanics and has a lot of so called hispanic people I consider close friends and even family, I don't think there'll ever be a Black/Brown coalition. Living down here, I've watched the demographics change dramatically since the late 80's. And with the hispanic population changing over the years, most don't stay long enough to be able to build a relationship with. There are new people in and out of the neighborhood as time passes.
The example I always think of is I was standing outside one Thanksgiving night a couple years back and there was a huge warehouse fire. I was the first to notice and walked to the corner prior to LAFD showing up. After a little while I noticed a crowd started to gather behind me and when I turned and saw everyone, there wasn't a recognizable face in the crowd. Eventually a few people I knew trickled thru. It was a little eerie thinking back on it. Almost felt like a stranger in the neighborhood I was born and raised.
Salute to you Flex. One of the most thorough in the game.

The funniest part is Alex Alanso is "Latino" politically. Yet majority of "Latinos" in Los Angeles see Alex as a "black" and their "race" as "Latino" when the United States census in question 8. On the 2020 census form made it clear that "Latino" is not a "race" it just discloses if you descended from a former Latin European colony that still uses a Latin based language legislatively. The United States does not conduct nation to nation business and relationships with other nations on the basis of "race". I think many especially in Los Angeles are ignorant what "Latino" actually means and the "black" and "brown" coalition has always been an Indigenous thing here in the states before Latins co-opted it via politics and media.
